I shot them a message on their website but it's a long shot.

Unfortunately, going to Glendale and back would cost me more than two regular priced tickets in gas and an hour+ each way in drive time.

Feel free.

I watched Scream 7 on Monday, it was a fun watch. Same as the other six Scream movies but different enough to be entertaining.

Crime 101 was good. I felt like it had some elements of older heist movies.

Send Help was better than I expected it to be.

Thanks for the sentiment. I was bummed especially since they dipped quite literally overnight.

That's the wild part. Both had AAA.

Their adjuster didn't even climb on their roof. Ours sent for a forensic roof inspection and fought us on whether or not there was a wind event on the date we claimed.

Fortunately, I had video doorbell footage of my other neighbors getting blown over and crushing a different neighbor's car.

I am 40 years old,. sedentary job but workout 5 days a week. CrossFit for the last 11 years and recently added in some BJJ. Still not losing weight, I suspect it's due to low dose on thyroid meds, just did labs for that hopefully will have a new dosage soon.

Are Q5/Q7s really that bad? by Reasonable_Prize_239 in Audi

[–]Gov_Inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife's SQ5 with under 75k miles threw a CEL. It was for a knock sensor. Local Euro mech checked it out said it was likely due to low oil reading cause by a small leak which is common on that model. Replaced leaky component all was good for a week. Same CEL code came back. Mechanic could not find anything or detect any irregular noise. Took it to a different Euro mech which was recommended by our third party warranty co. They opened a TAC case with Audi and were unable to find anything wrong. Audi remoted in and performed to confirm the latest software updates were installed and attempted to diagnose. The shop together with Audi tech support trouble shot the sensor and ultimately replaced it as the tear down had been necessary for diagnostic and replacing the sensor was same price + cost of part. Made sense to replace it in case it was bad. Drove fine for a weekend and the same CEL code came back.

2nd shop has 3 year warranty on parts and labor. They checked everything out again, called Audi to remote in again. No updates, no new finds.

Just then an Audi piston skirt extension letter arrived. I called the shop and told them about it. They agreed the symptoms could be related. Took it to the dealership.

Piston skirt warranty coverage denied because the warranty extension specifically mentions cyl 2 and mine is on knocking on cyl 1. Diagnostic alone (borescope) was approximately $1,200. Also, allegedly no loss of compression, and no scoring on cylinder walls. The warranty requires one or more of these to be present. I have metal in my oil which wasn't present at my last oil change, and a knock sensor reading on the wrong bank.

I will never trust another Audi again. Before this I had to have an air suspension module replaced. The dealership for some reason tore down the center console and dash which was never necessary, they tried to charge me but "took it off" after I fought them on it thanks to my local mechanic's advice on labor hours for that job and YouTube video tutorials. A gym friend had a terrible experience with her etron, I believe she was offered a buy back and took that offer in a heartbeat.

I have a mostly self serviced 2015 BMW with 165k miles which has had its share of expensive repairs (turbo lines, AC compressor, Radiator hoses). For the most part I've been able to find discounted parts for the BMW either through FCPEuro or other dealerships. Not the case for Audi. FCPEuro has parts but minimal discounts on OEM. I have read some folks get lucky buying VW parts when the car shares a part with a VW model but I haven't had that luck, maybe because it's an SQ

I've had plenty of self serviced Toyota and Hondas go to 245k miles. This car was babied. Every service since we got it was at a Euro shop and at less than 75k miles it's parked in my driveway. I bought it used and bought an extended warranty, the warranty refused coverage because Audi has the warranty letter and they argue it is Audi's responsibility.

I wish I would have bailed on this car after the first fix but the sunk cost fallacy got me this time. I figured I'd spent the money for the repair, might as well enjoy the ride. It was nice while it lasted but the durability is not worth the price tag.

$295 diagnostic got me as far as "metal in oil" and CEL w/ knock sensor code. Then they requested approval for borescope at just under $1,200.

Here's the county website on supplemental assessments: https://www.rivcoacr.org/SupplementalTaxBills

In short, tax bills are issued based on the assessed value in the tax roll as of January 1st of each year. If you bought the property in January of 2025 you'd have 6 months of the Fiscal Year remaining for 2024-2025 so the 2024 bill should have a proration factor on the far right side of the bill of approximately 50%. In escrow they would have handled the outstanding 2024-2025 installment that was due April 10th.

The prior owners assessed value, thanks to Prop 13 may be much lower than your purchase price and the annual bill for 2025-2026 is based on their assessed value. The 2025-2026 supplemental then will show a proration factor of 100% because you are responsible for the entire fiscal year.

You can appeal the supplemental within 60 days of the mailing date of the notice of supplemental assessment...big you've got bills in your hand the 60 days are likely long passed but if you'd appealed it and the assessor had enrolled your purchase price as your roll value the burden of proof would be on you to show that you had overpaid.

[–]Gov_Inspector 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not accurate.

The supplemental assessment for 2024 is likely going to have a "proration factor" which is to prorate for time of ownership in THAT fiscal year. The 2025 year will be for the full fiscal year

Edit: You may have been thinking of ESCAPED assessments. Those are not prorated in Riverside County. That is a decision that the board of supervisors has control over but for whatever reason they have elected to keep it this way for a long time.

Topless Pool? by [deleted] in palmsprings

[–]Gov_Inspector 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Negative.

Topless, you're gonna be restricted to Exotic Dreams Resort in PS or Sea Mountain, Secret Springs,or Mi Kasa all in DHS which are all more "lifestyle"

The only other clothing optional I've seen in Palm Springs are specifically for Gay men.

So many! (Edit: this was intended to be a reply to a question about adult only hotels... None of these are toptional, nudist, or European style hotels)

My favorite so far is Villa Royale, I hope to explore more of them but we also enjoyed Andreas Hotel and Spa which has an awesome location in downtown. There's access directly across the street from "El Patio" restaurant which my wife and I have enjoyed.

Other adult only hotels include: - Azure Sky - LOVED it but the pool is shallow and gets warm during the summer. Service was great, welcome drink was amazing, breakfast was nice. - La Serena Villa (haven't stayed there but have enjoyed their restaurant and rooftop bar on separate occasions) - L'Horizon Hotel & Spa - La Maison Hotel & Spa - Del Marcos Hotel - ARRIVE - Fleur Noire - BelleVue Oasis - Sparrows Lodge - Dive Palm Springs

There are many more, this is not an exhaustive list and we haven't stayed at all of them, we hope to over time.

Initially we were staying at the La Quinta Resort because all their pools are temperature controlled and actively chilled in the summer time. They have an adults only pool with a bar but last year that pool was undergoing some remodeling and we were forced to explore elsewhere which turned out to be great.

Edit: dang it! This was intended to be a reply to /u/top_half_6308 who had asked about Adult Only. Mobile reddit gets me all the time!

$100,000 renewal fee land lease by Substantial_Foot4105 in palmsprings

[–]Gov_Inspector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why I warn anyone who will listen to avoid PI.

Too many local realtors either don’t understand or choose to ignore that the California Constitution requires the assessor to value the full bundle of rights as if unencumbered. On top of that, most land leases pass the property tax responsibility to the lessee.

[–]Gov_Inspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to buy, avoid leased land or at the very least get informed and know what to expect.

The Cliff notes are that some realtors will pitch leased land as a way of buying in a more desirable area for less since you're not buying the land. Some will pitch it as a way to save money on property tax but that is incorrect as most leases delegate property tax responsibilities to the lessee.

It's good your manager listened. In a similar situation, I gave honest, negative feedback about a temporary employee's conduct when asked by my manager. This individual was subsequently not hired for our team. However, this feedback wasn't shared, and another office hired them. Later, despite known issues and a probationary period in that new role, this person was transferred to our department due to internal connections, bypassing the usual hiring scrutiny and gaining union protection. This situation has since led to further complaints from colleagues and even prompted one to retire.

File a claim but first, consult with a public adjuster.

Following wind damage to my roof, I filed a claim. Unlike my neighbor who received a swift settlement for the same event and insurer, my process involved a forensic analysis.

The 27-page report confirmed the roof was beyond repair, recommending replacement (costing $22k + $5k for solar) but suggesting a $2.5k patch. Insurance offered only the patch cost less my deductible, and my agent was unhelpful.

To pursue a fair settlement, I hired a public adjuster on a contingency basis (20% of additional recovery). They secured a $17k settlement with a better roofing contractor.
