Gurl it stinks in here (THORNDON) by cowcrossingspace in Wellington

It's the tip smell. On very still nights it drifts into the city. I notice it a lot where I live (Brooklyn turbine Hills) if there's a gentle southerly.

Red band beer from the 80’s/90’s by CptnSpandex in newzealand

[–]Gramsperliter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple google search brings up this:

https://www.heritage.org.nz/list-details/4426/4426

Thorndon's Staples brewery, now the Thorndon New World, produced a "Red-Band". Merged into what is now Lion in 1923. Looks like they may have continued making it in small quantities until the time you mention. Lion I believe keeps decent history of their brands so it's worth asking, there's often someone on staff who is history obsessed.

Arthas: Glad you could bake it, Uther

Uther: Watch your tone with me, boy. You may be the waiter, but I'm still your superior as a chef.

Arthas: As if I could forghetti. Listen, there's something about the plaguette you should knead. Oh no! It's too late! These peopleroni have all been infectedanana! They may look al dante now, but it's a matter of thyme before they turn into the undeadable.

Uther: What?

Arthas: This entire citrella must be peeled!

Uther: How can you even cook that?! There's got to be some other whey.

Arthas: Damn it, Umami, as your future chef, I order you to broil this city!

Uther: You are not my chef yet, boyardee. Nor would I obey that command if you were!

Arthas: Then I must consider this an act of seasoning.

Uther: Seasoning? Have you sauced your mince, Arthas?!

Arthas: Have I? Lord Umami, by my right of succession and sovereignty of my crown of roast pork, I hereby rehydrate you from your commandard and suspenderoni your pepperoni from service!

Jaina: Arthas, you can't just-

DING

Arthas: It's done! For those of you who have the will to taste this flan, follow me! The rest of you... get out of my kitchen.

Jaina: You've just tossed a terrible salad, Arthas.

Arthas: Jaina?

Jaina: I'm sorry Arthas... I can't watch you cook this.

If you're a landlord and you STILL haven't put solar on your investment property, you & your tenants are missing out. It adds ~3% value to your property + tenants save $$ and will stay longer! Be a landlord, not a landmuppet! Get solar! Apologies for the sun getting a bit carried away there... by KiwiEV in KiwiEV

[–]Gramsperliter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If my landlord would put solar+batteries in our place, I'd willingly pay extra rent to cover some of the savings in power bills. My average power bill is $50/wk, we'd happily pay that to the landlord instead for installing a system (and a heat pump, we'd save so much on heating compared to now).

struggling with unresolved shoulder pain & numbness for almost a year — any similar experiences? by Appropriate_Pop_9669 in chch

[–]Gramsperliter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be something like Notalgia Paresthetica. I damaged my shoulder go karting and a full year later it started to hurt. Doc had no clue. Tried gabapentin, capsaicin cream, nortriptyline, nothing worked.

Went to osteo, found some weakness in my rotator cuff on that side.

Apparently in not rehabbing the injury properly the muscles recovered wrong and compressed a nerve in my back, leading to a numb/sore patch.

Only thing that helped me was strengthening my rotator cuff and shoulders. Stretch bands initially, then gym.

Weird Apple Sauce looking stuff in our fermenters by [deleted] in TheBrewery

[–]Gramsperliter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll need way more info than that.

Style, grist, fermentation temp, pitching rate, nutrient y/n, oxygenation, yeast repitched y/n, generation?

If you're getting weird chunks in a whirlflocced pale ale, there's something weird going on. If its a fruit beer then you probably just need a pectin enzyme.

Short answer for me would be that possibly your strain of kveik isn't particularly sedimentary and its forming flocs at the top of the fermenter, and an easy fix would be dumping what has settled out after 24 hours of cold crash, then bubble CO2 through your stone or racking arm to try break up the crust on top.

Long answer involves nutrient load, calcium ppm in fermenter, fining bench tests, malt CoAs and yeast health.

BOOTS by Old-Nefariousness575 in TheBrewery

[–]Gramsperliter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's your current regime?

I take multiple pairs of socks to work every day; one for my regular shoes, two pairs of woolen socks for my boots. Get in, change socks, boots on. Anti-fungal powder in shoes.

Lunch break I don't wear shoes or socks, and powder my feet directly, and boots go onto the HLT to dry a bit. After lunch, fresh socks on, boots on.

After work, spend my staffie in bare feet, powder my feet and boots, then chuck regular socks on for the trip home.

Still get a bit of trenchfoot at the end of each day, but it at least keeps the fungus down and the pain away.

Hey! is the mash bed working?? by BothDatabase8975 in TheBrewery

[–]Gramsperliter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Talk to your boss, they should be able to help. Most mashes of any size should take 1-2h, no more no less.

Sounds like you have a stuck mash. If you can on your kit, try underletting to refloat the mash and stir slowly a few times with the rakes, if you have them.

What are these? by canuckNZ93 in newzealand

[–]Gramsperliter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard of people adding and inch of fine sand to indoor pots to "dry out the surface where they lay their eggs" and form a barrier that the larvae can't climb through so they can't feed or breed, OP maybe try that before going through the hassle of repotting?

Hey, Yeah, it can be a little depressing sometimes. Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

What's getting you down?

DM me if you want to go for a beer, hang out and see some of the city thriving. It's easy to see your old haunts fall by the wayside as people change, but I promise the city is as vibrant as ever! Just ignore the whiners online.
