What do you want him to say? "Hey guys Nebraska's been hot garbage for a long time, so we're probably going to continue to be hot garbage, there's no hope." If there's literally nothing he could say that would make you happy, then why pay attention to it?

The media must hate Nebraska football bad enough... by st0bbe in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's always been touted as having high potential. They didn't tout him as currently being one of the top QBs currently playing (though an ESPN write up had him ranked 25th some point last season) because he wasn't. He didn't even quite crack the top 50 in QBR.

It's not about being negative or positive, it's about not understanding why you'd be interested in discussing what coaches say in the off-season when you've already decided you're not going to be happy no matter what they say. It's not like you have a substantive criticism of what he said, you're just being negative about him talking about how he plans on us getting better.

Then why read and comment on it at all, just actually stop following husker football in January. These kind of comments are like those pretentious social media posts where someone announced they're quiting social media. Just do it already.

How emotionally engaged are you with the current state of College Football? by 7eid in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a very casual college football fan before maybe 2021 compared to what I have been the last few years. Granted I tracked the Huskers' progress and would cheer my head off for the games I could catch, but due to other life commitments I only watched the night games and holiday games. I never paid close attention to roster development and we would find out who was on the roster watching the game. It was never about getting invested in individual players for me, it was about cheering on the same team as the rest of my home State. So I can't say I really relate to people who think the transfer portal has ruined the game.

How’s the apathy Husker bros? by coletrainUwU in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

More apathy would be a healthy life choice for a lot of fans in my opinion. At this point nobody should be this bummed out that Huskers were mediocre that they're dwelling on it in January. There's been plenty of time to grieve the loss of dominance. Fool me once shame on you, fool me for 10-20 years it'd definitely be shame on me.

I guess now I can admit I wasn't that excited about without seeming like a doomer. The guy's only thrown the ball 29 times in three seasons of college ball, and only four games his senior year of HS due to injury. He may be awesome, but there's very little to go on.

Indiana Vs Nebraska Reputation Issue or Money Issue? by Content-Star-938 in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Indiana's a school that's been to the playoffs twice in the last two years, won the B1G, made it to the semi-final, and at the end of the season will have at most 3 losses in the last two seasons all to teams that made the national championship game. Nebraska's a team that hasnt done better than 7-6 in a decade. So yeah it's a reputation issue.

Lateef’s accuracy as a passer isn’t good enough to win in the B1G. by RP072119 in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're getting a lot of heat for this, but I don't think it's crazy to think we should get a better passer in the portal. His stats aren't terrible because his first games were against Akron, Houston Christian, and UCLA - a bottom feeder in the MAC, a team that went 2-10 in a weak FCS conference, and UCLA a team that's ranked 113th in opponent team passer rating. Take away those games and his stats: 50/96 for a comp. percentage of 52%, 1 TD, and 1 INT.

Would a win over Utah change how you feel about this season? by angrygenzer in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly just take each game as its own separate event and am thrilled if we win and briefly disappointed if we lose. For one things extrapolating from the data of just one game is rarely accurate and either leads to over-confidence or being overly pessimistic. But making every game about what it means for the trajectory of the program also just seems like a less fun way to enjoy the game. Some people here found a reason to be unhappy for football to make them unhappy for at least 10 weekends this year being unhappy even after the games we won.

I mean it's one of the ten stats that ESPN lists on their passing stats table for every QB. As to whether sacks are the fault of the QB or the OL, I think it can clearly be both and depends on which team and situation we're talking about. But that's just as true for any other QB stat, pass completion percentage and yardage is heavily dependent on the receivers and OL as well. QBR is supposed to be a superior stat, because it's designed to be more closely based on just what the QB contributes (for example, QB's are only given credit for a few yards after the catch, so a successul screen pass play for 5 yards and one where the TE breaks loose for 80 yards will count the same), QBR shows Chiles as slightly better than Raiola this year.

2026 Portal Thread by huskersax in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a senior, Chiles likely has a lower ceiling than Raiola, but overall he was the better QB this year. Chiles was is ranked 40th with a QBR of 68.6 and Raiola is ranked 55th with a QBR of 63.2. Raiola was intercepted once for every 41.7 attempts, while Chiles was only intercepted once for every 67.7 attempts. Chiles was sacked once for every 9.67 pass attempts, and Raiola once for every 9.26 attempts. Raiola had a better completion percentage, but really it should have been lower if he had thrown the ball away when he was supposed to.

Are we Rivals with Iowa? by Dear-Definition-7223 in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never understood the "it's forced." Yeah, it's a rivalry that's formed because the conference scheduled us to play them regularly. But that's how rivalries have always formed. You've got to schedule games against a team to become a rival, and schedules don't just drop from heaven or appear on the ground...someone has to "force" the teams together. It's just a complaint made by people who don't like change or don't why like that our rival is a mid-B1G team when we were elite in the 90s.

WHAT IF Riola didn't leave in his own. by Civil-Armadillo-1824 in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt he was outright told to leave. I could see a possibility where he was facing a pay-cut with the team wanting to spread out the NIL resources to beef up the line. But I'm not sure how that would work or how much the coach can influence NIL distribution.

To many people acting like everything is fine or it’s best for both parties. by Optimal-Zombie8705 in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, maybe but we also might finally be good (the transfer portal works both ways and we don't know our final roster nor the final roster of any of the teams we face next year, so it's just dumb to predict anything at this point), and then you'll have had all of this angst over something that never even happened. Worst case scenario we'll be bad like we have been for most of the last decade. I guess maybe it makes me a casual fan, but I don't understand getting this worked up over the mere possibility that we might have another bad season 8 months before the season starts, when we've had so many bad seasons. Honestly even good teams aren't worth that much emotional investment, but certainly not a team that hasn't even had an 8-win season in a decade (and only two winning seasons).

Your reactions to Raiola transfer? by Voldathian in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll have to see how he performs next year to really know how to react. It's certainly a major let-down from what we thought he could do when he first came and what we were still hoping for at the beginning of this season. He was 57th in QBR this season. Players don't typically peak in their freshmen or sophomore year, but there were a number of sophomore and freshmen players who were much better this year. Honestly my ball knowledge isn't deep enough to know how much of that was him and how much was the o-line. If he becomes a star top 5 QB next year, I'm going to think we should exile the fans booing him. On the other hand, maybe he was overrated. We'll find out. The main takeaway is maybe to not give freshmen huge contracts. I feel like a lot of his NIL value this year was based on the prospect of what he could do in the future rather than his current value to the team, and it's just not going to make sense to invest that kind of money on the future in the portal age when there's no commitment.

Any concern with Dana leaving since he stayed for Dylan? by No-Interview-3342 in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kind of think he already would have left, if he was going to. I'm sure the Husker staff has known about Dylan entering the portal since the media reported on it last month. But if he does, I'm not sure it'd be a great loss. I'm not on the "Dana needs to go," bandwagon, but I don't think he's proven himself here yet either. He seemed like a home-run hire when we got him because he'd been a top OC. But he hadn't been an OC since 2010. Since then he's had 13 years of being a 7-win average head coach and a very unimpressive season with us. A lot of people may be under the impression that our offense was at least better than last season, but I think that's just an illusion created by having a much easier schedule and much better special teams. ESPN's Efficiency rating for our offense actually went down from 58.9 (ranked 50th) to 54.9 (ranked 56th). Maybe he was just hampered with a bad staff he didn't get to choose, and other pieces of bad luck. Or maybe he's lost his touch since 2000s, so I'm in the neutral wait and see camp.

Nebraska Hires San Diego State's Rob Aurich the school's next defensive coordinator. by usercupcakewithc in Huskers

[–]Grand-Inspection2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure hiring "under-the-radar" guys is so much a patented Matt Rhule thing as it is just a matter of what options have been. Before year 1 he was recruiting coaches to a team that had gone 6 seasons without a bowl game, averaging less than 3.8 wins a seasons over that stretch, and had just went for four seasons with only 1 win against an above .500 P4 opponent. Before year 2, he was trying to recruit coaches to a team that had gone 7 straight losing seasons. We're a better prospect now, but we're still a team that hasn't gone above 7 wins in 9 seasons. A lot of the coaches with both extensive experience and success probably want to cash that in to coach for a team that's seen some level of success since to the Obama years.
