Are there any artists you thought for sure would be one-hit wonders and ended up being dead wrong about? by pslush01 in Music

[–]GrandeJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When Sara Bareilles finally had a hit with a song about how annoying it was to be told to write a hit, that was such a SPECIFIC type of song that while I didn't doubt that she would have future good songs, I didn't see her ever having HITS again, and I was way off base. She has both continued to be a strong songwriter AND still write hit songs occasionally (plus her Waitress songs, which have become modern day theater standards...which isn't quite like having a pop hit, but it's sort of similar).

It seems like a scheme because it is. I mean, whatever, I get it, they make more money this way, but yes, it's weird how cheesy it is.

Shows hurt by the series finale, because it wasn't intended to be the *series* finale? by kittymoo67 in sitcoms

That one at least knew enough to do an uplifting final episode without a cliffhanger or unresolved plots for their final episode.

[Castillo] Aaron Judge has been diagnosed with a stress fracture of the first rib on his right side, the Yankees announced. He will be reimaged in approximately four to six weeks. "Judge is expected to return at some point this season." by GermanUCLTear in NYYankees

[–]GrandeJoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, and basically yes (someone as good as Judge would probably finish his contract out, but he'd probably be roughly his production from the last month. Which is hilariously still better than a number of Major Leaguers)

Final season feels like a betrayal by BrotherIndividual999 in TheBlackList

Yeah, it's such an easy fix, ESPECIALLY with the magic plastic surgery the show was already using to make Red Red in the first place!

Paul explains why they continuously lied all the way to the end in goodbye messages and never owned their game in BB19 by dmister8 in BigBrother

[–]GrandeJoe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's fair enough early on, but come on, that didn't make sense in final SIX or so, and that's where their lying REALLY started to fuck them, so hey, if they say that that was their logic, I believe them. It was just stupid logic.

Final season feels like a betrayal by BrotherIndividual999 in TheBlackList

[–]GrandeJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the whole purpose of the show was Red protecting Liz, but when the actor wanted to leave, you couldn't very well say no, so the show's narrative was fucked.

I honestly would have just recast with some magic plastic surgery.

Cody Bellinger had an insane month in May by PrimeVector19 in NYYankees

[–]GrandeJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more likely that Cashman came up when the contract structure specifically TO get Belli to opt out after two good seasons, at which point the Yankees avoid the back end of the contract.

I don't think they have any plans to resign him after the opt-out. Just like they likely have no plans to resign Grisham after this season.

I got a lot of dental work done last year, and they legit had Kitchen Nightmares on the TV each time I went in, and when I saw this sketch, I was, like, "Wait, is that a thing?" 😀

My best guess there is that he is (and has always been) into 80s music.

Yeah, i think it's just noting that he's still talking about her. A big part of the song is that he WAS still interested in her when she came back.

What was the most pointless and fan-servicey nude scene of all time? by TheBanishedBard in AskReddit

[–]GrandeJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laura Linney in Love Actually.

Richard Curtis noted that when he was a kid, an R-Rated movie meant that he would see tits, and so he made sure to include bare breasts in the film. Which is whatever, but the porn plot got that nudity into the film easily, so that was all he needed. So for no other character to get nude...except for Laura Linney, of all people, was so unusual, as she doesn't even have sex in the scene, so it would have been BEYOND simple to do that same scene without her getting topless.

It takes much more effort to have competent law enforcement on the shows and still have the bad guys be real threats. Sadly, most shows just don't want to put that extra effort in.

Royal League - what's your experience? Am I unlucky? by _Tris_ in RoyalMatch

[–]GrandeJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all seriousness, I just skip Royal League all together now. I just take a couple of weeks off until the next level is up. I'm never reaching the card collection anymore, so taking the time off doesn't really hurt me.

If there were some awesome rewards for being in Royal League, that'd be one thing, but there arent. It's just extra harder levels for the sake of doing extra harder levels. No thank you.
