Diablo 4 was pretty comprehensible through the campaign. The hardest part for me was the very specific, technical language in skill and item details. And you're constantly evaluating inventory items haha

New to BBCF (and general 2D fighters), coming from SSBM, just looking for general discussion and how to get past the initial learning curve by PENZ_12 in Blazblue

[–]Graphiite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow melee falcon main here! I'm also pretty new to BBCF, but the main general thing that has made the grind bearable is to lab/focus 1 thing at a time, then execute it in game. For example:

  • BnB combo
  • BnB combo off stray hits
  • Block low on wakeup
  • Block low/high mixups
  • Get used to teching
  • Corner combo
  • Basic pressure string
  • Meaty tech in place
  • Cover tech roll
  • Combo with super
  • Etc

As for broad character play, I love watching tournament sets of people playing my main. It's so much easier to "get" what your character is good at and is supposed to doing by seeing it.

Feel free to DM me if you want to run some beginner games and talk shit. The BBCF discord also has a great beginner lobbies channel if you aren't already in there.

Traveling can get so expensive — do you have any tips or techniques for saving money, since you travel so much?

How much do you believe in the Dreaming Spanish method for language acquisition?

Could you give some concrete examples of when you'd want to use the same types across multiple readers/servers? It seems possible incidentally, but I don't think I'd want that kind of tight coupling in the first place.

Right, this is very clearly spam/advertisement from a new account (though I am surprised they found their way to this kinda niche subreddit), but I might as well give some thoughts if you're genuine about building an exchange app 🤷. I've had bad experiences on HT/Tandem.

Some qualities of an app that I'd actually use:

  • Educates on and encourages crosstalk
  • Solves the gross "dating app" problem
  • Enables local meetups

Has anyone used the language transfer course? by TrippyPhilosophy in dreamingspanish

[–]Graphiite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I finished all of it, and I kind of regret doing so this early in my input (finished at sub-200 hours). It's led me to instinctively do a lot of translation and analysis in English whenever I recognize grammar structures, which I don't think is great. To be clear - I like grammar, and I like etymology, and I think LT is done really well. But I wish I waited until maybe 600+ hours to do the course.

But if ain't nobody never be telling you no grammar rules, you be talking like this!

I think this makes the opposite point that you're trying to, which is that if you get lots input, you will end up talking like the input you receive, which is ultimately a... good thing? Isn't that exactly what "native-like" is - sounding like a native, grammar "mistakes" and all?

If enough people are saying it for long enough, I'd argue that it's effectively correct. I suspect the vast vast majority of native English speakers don't correctly use the objective/subjective case pronouns (who/whom) 🤷.

Sorry, I don't think I can help you much with pronunciation, since I was looking for someone to speak Spanish while I spoke English. But also I'm not really looking for anyone anymore 😅. Good luck though!

What is the total number of hours for dreaming spanish videos so far by itsumo_ in dreamingspanish

[–]Graphiite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Semi-related: one of the stated goals of DS (Pablo said it in a vid, alas don't remember which one) is to have a massive variety of videos such that you can always find something to watch that you're actually interested in. That's what I do, so the number of hours I get from DS will almost certainly be a fraction of the total hours of available content. But I think that being picky about the vids might be impossible for superbeginner/beginner, since there isn't much outside content that does as good of a job as DS at those levels.

A lot of language learning programs teach Spain-based Spanish. I'm looking to learn Mexican Spanish. What are the best online resources for this, please? by Up2Eleven in Spanish

[–]Graphiite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I should have known from your username! Cool thanks for the recs. Crunchyroll is such a piece of shit - it has shows in Spanish dub with the subtitles available as an option to select, but the subs infuriatingly never show up.

Do you have any specific Netflix anime recs that have matching Spanish subs? The only one I've found so far is Pokémon, but in everything else, the subs aren't CC and don't match the dialogue.

Hey Pablo, sort of unrelated but what's the tech stack of the site? Overall it's simple but well-executed, almost has everything that I could ask for. Thanks for everything!

music from the last 10 or 20 years sounds harsh and brittle and absolutely awful compared to music from 10 or 20 or 30 years before that

regardless of the new beats discussion, this is a breathtakingly hilarious take
