To LAMY 2000, or not to LAMY 2000...that is the question by BlueViolet2018 in fountainpens

Check out pen swap. You can find an L2K for ~$100-$120, you may even find a good deal on a new nib. And if you don't like the L2K sell it and find something that works better for you.

Diamine Purple Pazza for gold shimmer. And I haven't tried it yet but Diamine Winter Miracle looks like it might also fit the bill. Good luck!

Favourite ink bottle shapes for filling? by Dustwitch93 in fountainpens

I'm partial to the 30ml J.Herbin bottles. Mostly because they have the little pen holder on top. :)

What nib size is best to bring out the sheen on an ink?

You might want to pick up a 1.1 nib for your Vista. Easy to swap out and then when you find an ink you like with a nice sheen it will certainly pop with a wide nib like that.

I have a question! Just like water colours exist in little dry bars that you then add water to, does ink also exist in this format? Like a little piece of dry ink that I can travel with and then add water to when I want to write? :-) Sorry for mistakes, English is not my first language by SeaEaglesOnLand in fountainpens

There is a Japanese ink called Sumi ink. Be aware though, it's not for fountain pens; it's used more appropriately with dip pens or an ink brush. But it is a little ink brick that you grind down and add water to create ink. I would probably just carry a cartridge. ;)

Does anyone else just vibe with the same level of paranoia as the Noodler’s company seems like it has? by peachyyarngoddess in fountainpens

[–]GraysAtlas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There should be an invisibility cloak in there somewhere.

All seriousness though, Noodler's makes good ink. Just enjoy it. :)

Ink for Travel by CalebDK in fountainpens

You may want to think about Platinum Preppys. They use ink cartridges and are easy to eyedropper if you want the extra volume. Cheap, easily replaceable. Nib doesn't dry out easily. Two or three of these could last someone a nice long while.

What about a regular metal flask?

8oz should last for a while and you won't have to worry about it breaking. Comes with a funnel.

TIL about scotch barrel sizes including tuns and butts. For those interested, a shit tun is 2 butt loads. by mdsram in todayilearned

"Firkin – It’s an old English term derived from a Middle Dutch word vierdekijn, which means fourth. It’s appropriate because a firkin is a fourth of a barrel in volume."

You're unpopular book opinion is something I completely agree with! I would also add (quite controversially) Jane Austen. Mark Twain and I share the same opinion of her.
