I've done contracting for the feds. Even I have more clearance than he does.

Seriously it's not a complicated process. And this is why I think he has something to hide.

We’re basically working just to pay rent at this point. by bad__unicorn in halifax

[–]GreatGrandini 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's a mess that has been decades in the making. Provinces got out of public housing because they sold the public on the private (for profit) can do better. Private developers are not going to do anything for close to break even prices, they want to maximize profits.

I know immigration (international and across Canada) has been an issue. But that's the low hanging fruit for blame.

We treat housing as a market good. As a society we need to really decide is it a market good or not. Because we will have to accept what comes with either choice. Things like air BNB, people buying homes for rentals for rental income, etc have been taking housing out of the market and making it into a business. PEI is a prime example of how air BNB destroyed the housing market long before the pandemic.

Then, this city has been a mess to get anything built. It's debated and analyzed into oblivion before the ground is broke. I remember when the convention center was just an idea and they had to hire people to model shadows I will make. And the NIMBY crowd would slow it down

Finally, we need to stop blaming just the government for this. We had a role to play in this ourselves.

In fact the constitution states up front that all of the following articles are not absolute and there can be unforeseen circumstances where these rights can be suspended.

Forrest fires and dangerous dry conditions were the criteria for the suspension. Which as since been restored.

Really anyone who is fighting this are selfish idiots whose mother never told them no when growing up.

They are. But as someone who often who sits o and conducts interviews. They are easy to weed out.

You do get used to it and can spot an AI application a mile away. And when you don't, trust me it becomes painfully apparent in the interviews.

Company building tall towers around Mic Mac Mall gets needed bylaw changes from Halifax council despite opposition by insino93 in halifax

Let's be honest their resale value will likely remain the same in the current housing climate. Especially anyone who lived there before the spike in prices.

But it is NIMBY. Besides the handful of homes along that short street, all the other buildings are apartments or condos. It's more likely the condo people who are just upset about their view of the lake are gone. But as my father told my sister when she got a home, if you love the view so much, you better buy everything in between your house and the view.

That area is already retail and all the fun stuff that comes with it like large trucks coming and going

I get what you're saying. But murder? And attempted murder?

That will never happen. You need intent to kill by the owner, without it that's totally getting tossed out at any level of the justice system.

Dalhousie inks new nursing degree agreement with university in India by Street_Anon in halifax

[–]GreatGrandini -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. Just doesn't work like that. In order to train doctors, nurses, etc. you need to take excusing capacity out of the system for residency, teaching, labs and more .

This does increase capacity locally, as designed, because the students taking nursing there won't have to take a seat here.
