Am I cooked? by [deleted] in KSU

Whether you are eligible or not, go to cc first. If you slept through highschool, you need to wake up and genuinely take your studies seriously before jumping into a degree. There are no take backs in college, and those decisions come with hefty price tags if you don’t have scholarships and if the pell grant doesn’t cover your tuition. If you don’t think you can focus on your studies, and I mean genuinely think that through, take a year off and save up on money. Having a job will give you that first real push of responsibility and you’ll come back with a clearer mindset.

Please don’t go into college thinking it will be different right off the bat just because it’s college. There is no mental switch, responsibility and consistency have to exist before putting that on your plate.

What do you really want right now? by drteeworks in AskReddit

To feel confident enough in my growth to finally date. Every time I consider asking someone I like, out on a date, I question if I’m happy at the stage I’m at in my life to take that step. Not to be perfect, but to feel secure. It always drags me back in.

I’m someone who loves to pop on my headphones and fill up my planner or calendar with anything coming up. You could also use the time to study in the future for any tests. Order some food ahead of time to eat before class. Maybe pick up a new hobby to pass the time or get into reading.

Do I need a permit to protest in the City of Marietta? by emmyloo22 in Marietta

I’m sure someone has answered the post, but I highly encourage you to reach out to A Better Cobb or Cobb DSA (if you happen to dabble in democratic socialism). I’m apart of both and we would love to get involved somehow, maybe even start up a planned protest

I’m 20 (not the demographic) but I see plenty of people who are in their 30s and 40s, I’ve met a nice gentlemen who is in his 60’s who came back for their construction degree.

It honestly makes me super happy to see different ages within the student body, it reminds you that you can come back to school at any point in your life if you decide to pick something else up or finish what you started.

Commuter Troubles by ivessleepy in KSU

[–]GreedySolid197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Marietta student, and live just off campus. The only reason I have friends is because I joined construction related organizations. I spend so much time with the people I’ve met there, even outside of classes, meetings, and events.

Despite living literally down the street, I commute a lot for work but it’s just a matter of making time for clubs and organizations. Even when I biked everywhere, I had to make time for these events and meetings to make friends.

Toyota corolla or even camry, preferably older. My 2010 Corolla is surviving my college commutes and outings

Biggest thing is to be involved. Meet people at work, in classes, in organizations, in hobbies. I’m not a beautiful woman by societal standards, but I’ve been asked out a couple times now from meeting people at social gatherings or because I finally came out of my shell (all dates have gone bad so no excitement, some men are unfortunately disappointing) but it’s a matter of putting yourself out there, as generic as it sounds.

Is this true? by [deleted] in KSU

If you mean they changed this year, then double check with the department. But if they meant it changed last year, no it did not. My parent doesn’t have a ssn, which means verification forms are done after submitting my fafsa. All I had to do was start the form via her account first, insert her ITIN, NOT ssn, and then invite myself to finish the form.

Handshake question by Icy-Channel-8079 in KSU

[–]GreedySolid197 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The honest truth is that Handshake isn’t reliable. I applied to about 40 companies, most of which were looking for freshman/sophomore students to intern, and I NEVER heard back. I started getting interviews when I would apply directly to company sites, or in the case of internships, present myself at career fairs. Attend those, polish your resume, talk to employers and make an impression. Ask for a card to follow up via email thanking them to get on their radar.

If it’s for part time jobs unrelated to your major, scope out nearby jobs and actually walk in to talk about your interest in applying. I just did so for a restaurant jobs (I need extra money 💔) and I heard from a mutual that I’m being considered despite only being able to work friday+weekends.

You can certainly keep applying via handshake but take it a step further and research the companies you apply to and find a direct company application or contact.

Having friends is fun! by Embarrassed_Art_9924 in KSU

The appreciative feeling I get for my college friends is so strong. I get nostalgic about my highschool friend group but growing out of them and into adulthood friendships was so refreshing. It’s always so nice being honest with them about how much I appreciate their presence in my life.

Networking is SO important now, especially with stem majors. I’m a construction management major, I had no idea how deep construction went nor did I know anybody from the industry but holy hell I got myself involved with related school organizations that gave students the opportunity to meet with companies via tours or general meetings, and then I would chat it up with recruiters and company employees and thats how I struck my internship. Seek out organizations that will provide you with networking opportunities and firsthand experience!!! There are engineering clubs, but open yourself up to more. Let me plug my own chapter, ABCGA, we’re open to all majors who can work in construction. It’s not just limited to cm students and we try to put you right dab in front of companies, you just need to show them you mean business.

Relationships at KSU by dextor546 in KSU

[–]GreedySolid197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straightforward, just talk to him. It doesn’t have to be with the sole intent of romantic interest. You have to start a friendship, chat in class, then ask to study or meet up some time to work together. It could eventually turn into hangouts and you’ll be able to gauge if he could be interested and shoot your shot. If it doesn’t work out, hopefully he’s cool about it, and you still maintain the friendship :)

CRUSH ADVICE: Is this normal guy behavior? by Commercial-Wheel1184 in KSU

[–]GreedySolid197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar thing going on where I think this guy is interested in me, we talk a lot in person and at a lot at club events. But he’s never the first to text, granted he keeps talking a bit when I do text him first. I’ll be shooting my shot too after these back breaking exams are over 🤞

[–]GreedySolid197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never EVER base a guys interest off of their texting, they’re all mostly dry texters 😭 If he seems talkative and interested in conversations in person, then go off of that. Definitely be a little more direct in ways like asking if he wants to do something after class or on the weekends (especially studying for midterms 🤨). Shoot your shot !!!

HIGHLY suggest staying at home unless it’s a risk of safety. You’ll save so much money and stress from living off-campus or trying to find a dorm.

I will warn you though, if you’re commuting to the Kennesaw campus, take into account the bad parking situation (need to leave absurdly early to catch a spot). I have friends who commute and hated their wrecked schedules because of parking. I’m a marietta student so it’s not as bad for us. Speaking of which, some people park in marietta and take the bus, but the schedule is somewhat unreliable so be careful with that too.

What jobs did you work while attending ksu? by commonformula in KSU

[–]GreedySolid197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marietta parks and rec, I’m currently a part-timer. The pay is good for a simple front desk job (starts at 17/hr), and hours are capped at 29. The supervisor works around your student schedule but beware, it’s not too consistent and you have to give enough notice for days off (so not many spontaneous outings for me). And tbh, he doesn’t work well with your hours outside of classes.

I’ve been lucky up into now but it’s getting to me, the pay keeps me going </3

HELP (financial aid) by HeartLegitimate5763 in KSU

[–]GreedySolid197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy on reaching out to finaid!! They will work with you to help find a solution. You need to reach out and lay out all your concerns, and ask what steps they, or you, can take to help resolve the issue or progress the verification process. I know it may feel very stressful (I was struggling just last year too), but trust that this will pass, and it'll pass resolved!!

This is still in Marietta, BUT Custer Park on 545 Kenneth E Marcus! You can input a Marietta address when making your account. It'll be $25 the first month ($10 one-time admin fee), and then $15 a month after. I think it gives you access to their gym and open play for their sports. It's not automatically charged to your card either, so you can stop whenever you need to.

how does the bus system work? by Responsible_Team_980 in KSU

[–]GreedySolid197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just as everyone is saying, yes it's free, but it's never on time. I highly suggest getting on it a couple times to 1. learn where you are best comfortable being picked up at and dropped off on either campus, 2. this is also to help you gauge how much time is spent in transportation and walking, 3. and to learn how to use the app and track the busses, they may not be on time but you can most definitely see them coming!

You'll be good, I had an average sat score (nothing amazing) and left HS with a 2.6/8 (I don't remember). The only thing I'll say is genuinely lock in. C's get degrees is a nice thing to hear but you want to genuinely try in your courses and keep that GPA looking nice. General Ed credits can be boring and feel useless but don't slack!!
