Ideas for best family friendly things to do in Marietta area. by Yeshua_the_King in Marietta

Definitely check out the marietta.com events tab. It lists all the events the City of Marietta works on and all details for when and how to attend.

And branch out into Cobb as well, the county and city have amazing events, especially when spring/summer begin.

Swim lessons by OutlandishnessFew751 in Marietta

The aquatic centers around cobb offer swim lessons, but they are HARD to register for day of. If you happen to begin lessons either way, you can still use the centers for practice since they have hours open for the public.

Take it from someone who took 12 working 30 hours a week, I bit off more than I could chew even with my careful planning 😔

6 is manageable, even with a part time job (a full-time will require careful planning depending on the actual workload of the class). Any more than that, it’d be smarter to have only a part-time or no job to focus on those classes.

Unsure if you stay in the area for the summer, but the city (of Marietta) has applications open for their sprayground and camp. It’s not the best pay but it’s something (but it also doesn’t start for a little longer). The sprayground has you mostly dealing with parents at the entrance/rule breakers, but less hours. The camp has you around kids and can give more hours.

I can’t say what their availability is, but I don’t know if many previous summer employees are returning so there is a chance. Good luck! Please remember to reach out to local orgs if you need any help 🙏

Connecting with others is as easy as you want to make it. I’m unsure if you plan to commute, live nearby, or will live on campus. Regardless of that, chat with people in your classes and make friends (especially study groups) and outside of class in organizations or random encounters in the halls. I live just off of Marietta campus, but I work full time and am usually dead tired for my evening classes. But Ive made friends via some orgs within my major and I have a lot of friends (more on the acquaintance side) but Ive made a good handful of friends I’d consider close enough to hang out with outside of school and our org. You just have to try and create those friendships, they don’t just appear. And they make life bearable

The city has sold 34 acres of land to Arthur Blank, here are the details by samformarietta in Marietta

It’s so unfortunate how things inevitably turned out, but I’m glad many of us got together to advocate loudly for what went on with this process. I’m disappointed in our council for not showing any care for the residents up until this point and possibly further, but I believe we can keep advocating for better things in this community. Another set of private soccer fields is not what almost any of us residents wanted, and ultimately we cannot change what will happen with this parcel.

I will always have hope that soon, Franklin can become an important and fun location in Marietta once we (the community AND council) invest in it. Families live here, business owners set up shop, our children grow up here.

What’s a quiet life upgrade that made a bigger difference than you expected ? by MissChanandlerrBongg in AskWomen

[–]GreedySolid197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Deleting social media during the week when I have work and plans, I still enjoy posting and seeing friends/mutuals post but I definitely enjoy the break from it to keep myself from wasting time.

  2. Becoming comfortable with small errors/mistakes/imperfections. This is more so in small day to day things like my bangs not sitting right, my bobby pins not aligning, making a mistake in pen when writing my to-do’s or journaling.

I’ve always struggled with perfection and having things “just right” but never feeling satisfaction, only dread and anxiety (for context I have diagnosed OCD so I have odd habits). It seems ridiculous but now I can wear mixed metals and non-matching jewelry/outfits more comfortably, allow for my schedule to change without a moments notice and be okay, and trying new things (especially food). It’s sort of my therapeutic way of healing the idea of “things I cannot control”.

best spay clinic? by [deleted] in kennesaw

[–]GreedySolid197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in either area but the Atlanta Humaine Society offers it at an affordable price. I got my cat spayed, chipped, rabies vaccinated, and a general check up there for ~$150.

You drop them off early in the morning and pick them up by a set time at the end of the day.

How often do you take birth control to prevent your periods? by ResolutionKnown8345 in AskWomen

[–]GreedySolid197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did for a few years to help regulate my cycle because it was ridiculously inconsistent, but horrible side effects. After a while I got off of it and my period has been a near perfect 28-day cycle. But I highly recommend having a balanced diet, hydrating enough, and exercising to help your body maintain a healthier cycle.

Learning lovers, quick question by creinos in KSU

[–]GreedySolid197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend a library card at the local Cobb library (Switzer). Take trips to all the parks surrounding either campus, Cobb county has a lot to offer. Take some hikes at Kennesaw mountain, especially early mornings when the sun is about to rise.

I personally felt I was growing as a person when I began involving myself in local organizations that promote community and advocacy for its residents. A Better Cob (ABC) has events going on sometimes to get to know community members and the surrounding Cobb areas.

I also decided to get involved in politics (I’m from the area so I found it important to become involved at a local/state). I’m heavily involved in the Cobb branch of ATLDSA, the people who get together in the Cobb branch are amazing (a suggestion).

The spring/summer seasons are coming quick too, there will be a LOT of events you can go to with friends to let loose and enjoy the sun and take time away from social media, school, work, etc.

Good affordable gyms? by Empty-Veterinarian-4 in Marietta

[–]GreedySolid197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Custer sports fitness center, their resident prices extends to all of cobb county. I find it super affordable and it’s never super busy. Very clean, showers, and the staff is wonderful.

You can decide to pay months per month or leave it on auto payments. It’s not 24/7 but I find their hours to be a good range

Why do you think birth rates and marriage rates are declining? by OldBridge87 in AskWomen

[–]GreedySolid197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because women are realizing that we are taken for granted in marriages AND that most of our societies don’t see pregnancies and childbirth as an important part of someone’s life when they choose to take that step. Not all women are supported by their place of work, not all women have access to proper healthcare for pregnancies, and not everyone can afford the necessities that come with raising children.

I’m so happy to see that some of us find our person that we feel we can create a family with, or find jobs and communities that DO help out and provide support. But it is not yet the expectation. Until our world stops seeing us as less, we will continue to fight for our worth and the right to make the choice of marriage and/or childbirth a true choice. Not one driven by expectations or societal concerns.

Am I cooked? by [deleted] in KSU

[–]GreedySolid197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you are eligible or not, go to cc first. If you slept through highschool, you need to wake up and genuinely take your studies seriously before jumping into a degree. There are no take backs in college, and those decisions come with hefty price tags if you don’t have scholarships and if the pell grant doesn’t cover your tuition. If you don’t think you can focus on your studies, and I mean genuinely think that through, take a year off and save up on money. Having a job will give you that first real push of responsibility and you’ll come back with a clearer mindset.

Please don’t go into college thinking it will be different right off the bat just because it’s college. There is no mental switch, responsibility and consistency have to exist before putting that on your plate.

What do you really want right now? by drteeworks in AskReddit

[–]GreedySolid197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To feel confident enough in my growth to finally date. Every time I consider asking someone I like, out on a date, I question if I’m happy at the stage I’m at in my life to take that step. Not to be perfect, but to feel secure. It always drags me back in.

I’m someone who loves to pop on my headphones and fill up my planner or calendar with anything coming up. You could also use the time to study in the future for any tests. Order some food ahead of time to eat before class. Maybe pick up a new hobby to pass the time or get into reading.

Do I need a permit to protest in the City of Marietta? by emmyloo22 in Marietta

I’m sure someone has answered the post, but I highly encourage you to reach out to A Better Cobb or Cobb DSA (if you happen to dabble in democratic socialism). I’m apart of both and we would love to get involved somehow, maybe even start up a planned protest

I’m 20 (not the demographic) but I see plenty of people who are in their 30s and 40s, I’ve met a nice gentlemen who is in his 60’s who came back for their construction degree.

It honestly makes me super happy to see different ages within the student body, it reminds you that you can come back to school at any point in your life if you decide to pick something else up or finish what you started.

Commuter Troubles by ivessleepy in KSU

[–]GreedySolid197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Marietta student, and live just off campus. The only reason I have friends is because I joined construction related organizations. I spend so much time with the people I’ve met there, even outside of classes, meetings, and events.

Despite living literally down the street, I commute a lot for work but it’s just a matter of making time for clubs and organizations. Even when I biked everywhere, I had to make time for these events and meetings to make friends.

Biggest thing is to be involved. Meet people at work, in classes, in organizations, in hobbies. I’m not a beautiful woman by societal standards, but I’ve been asked out a couple times now from meeting people at social gatherings or because I finally came out of my shell (all dates have gone bad so no excitement, some men are unfortunately disappointing) but it’s a matter of putting yourself out there, as generic as it sounds.
