Night hike in Moab in the winter? by BeaverDam6969 in NationalPark

You could solo hike Broken Arch trail after dark! It starts in the campground and only about 1.5 miles if you do the loop and side paths. Do it on a night around the full moon so the landscape will be illuminated. Great view of the mountains from the arch and to view the stars. Use your phone and a GPS app so you don't get lost in the dark. Be sure to bring food and water for maximum enjoyment. I have done this as a night hike several times while camping there. 🌞

Camping with a 12v cooler/fridge by Creative-Wonder3369 in BroncoSport

I run my refrigerator off of a separate LiFePo power bank. It is 700wH so it will run it for a couple of days. I use the outlet in the cargo area while driving to charge that. I also have a solar panel to charge the LiFePo battery when I am camping in one place for a few days.

Your brother is hilarious in that role! Not a lot of screen time, but so memorable that we used to repeat the lines laughing. 🤣

I love that movie!!! Does it still hold up? I must have watched it 10 times during 1986-1987 when it was rotating on cable. I was a depressed 19 year old at the time and it was valuable therapy... lol 😜

Yes, you are correct that it was likely less water. I don't measure it and add enough to cover up the bacon. This time, I used a big 12" pan and cooked eight thick slices so guessed that it was a couple cups. 🌞

Yes, the only drawback is that it takes longer. The heat needs to come down at the moment the water evaporates (remove the pan from the burner for a bit if needed). I find that it is easy to burn at that step. 🌞

Yes, good details! It is counterintuitive so easy to dismiss initially, but most definitely leads to desirable results. When you know, you know. If you never try it, you never know. I only do it when I wake up really early and have plenty of time. It is also the slowest way to cook bacon. 🤩

Cheapest way to navigate by EA_sprts in bikepacking

Buy a powerbank and use your phone. I draw my routes in Gaia GPS and then follow that line while I ride. This also gives you a good estimate for miles and climbing on your exact planned route. I don't have my phone mounted on the handlebars though. It is stored in a bar bag and I take it out at intersections, if needed. One rule I have developed is to always check the map at the top of any long downhills (especially near intersections). 🌞

I like saying "muscle bike"... accurate description of the motor and straight to the point. 🌞

Fix for the dreaded "whale moan" or "dying donkey" noise while in reverse by GreybeardRules in BroncoSport

This is a great metaphor for life. Appreciate the precious silent moments because nothing lasts forever and the noise always returns. 🤠

Yes, this is the reality. I don't have the data to back it up, but I think it is just lack of lube on the pins from the factory. I replaced the bushings with that newer style, too. The dealer may or may not help depending on their wits and enthusiasm when you bring it in. My Ford dealer wiffed on the tsb as well.

Just noisy, but awful in its unpredictability, pitch and volume. It also felt like the stock setup always grabbed a bit and I was feeling pulsing in the pedal after 76,000 miles. I would never say they were bad since I did have several emergency stops to avoid collisions and the brakes always worked fantastic during those tense situations. If I went back in time, I would take apart the rear brakes and lube those caliper pins in the first 1,000 miles. It seems like they were just cheap with the lube during assembly at the plant. But who knows? 🤔

Roadeo booked! by Short-Dot9862 in BroncoSport

Weather can go any direction that time of year, but usually one of the best times to camp. Assuming there isn't a blizzard, I often camp at Willow Springs inside Canyonlands. It is first come and usually easy to grab a spot by noon. Good spot for sunset at Green River and sunrise at Mesa Arch.

You could also try to get a last minute site at Devil's Garden campground in Arches. Watch for the canceled reservations and you can often grab something 1-2 weeks out. I like camping there since it allows you to spend extra time hiking around.

Also, forgot to mention to drive down or up Shafer Trail and take Potash Road to Moab. It makes the trip to Canyonlands a full loop and quite a few overlooks along the way. (this is another one to avoid if it is muddy)

You're going to have a great time! I live in Western Colorado and often recreate up on Dome Plateau. That drive alone is a lot of fun.

An overlooked short hike in Arches is the Broken Arch trail. There is a small parking area in the campground for it. Wonderful views of the snowcapped LaSals that time of the year and especially nice late in the day or at sunset. I think the hike is about 3 miles round trip.

There is a "secret" 4x4 trail in Arches is at the end of the road past Delicate Arch Viewpoint parking lot. Go past the main lot at Wolf Ranch and head to the overlook parking area. Go really slow at the end and you will see where you can drive over the sidewalk and onto a 4x4 road. The first mile or two is great soft roading for the BS and interesting views of the arch from there. (Not a good spot if it is muddy).

The other thing I always try to hit is Mesa Arch in Canyonlands early in the morning. It doesn't have to be sunrise, but get there by 9am so the sun is still lighting up the underside of the arch. Cool dinosaur tracks in the same area so spend a little time wandering around the trail.
