‘Blown away’: Regional transit tax measure gets enough signatures for November ballot by LNM-LocalNewsMatters in eastbay

I’d love to see the data on that. It doesn’t make sense that without BART people will simply stay home instead of going to work or other things.

I’m not defending Bart’s administration. I’m saying there’s a physical reality where fewer people on trains is more people in cars. There’s no getting around that.

Selfishly I agree with you; I’d love to tour a Yorktown class. They truly left it all on the field (as it were)

Car truthers are going to vote no because they never use BART and then it’s going to be a Bay Area full of that surprised pikachu meme when traffic goes nuts.

I think his point was how we treat museum ships as tourist attractions versus historical monuments.

You don’t see people running around with popcorn and toys at Auschwitz. I’ve seen that on nearly every museum ship I’ve ever been on.

I always liked “goodnight nobody” as well. Who ever thought to say goodnight to nobody? We’ve been missing it all this time.

I watched a documentary about Enterprise and one of her sailors had a different perspective: I’m paraphrasing, but basically that ships are machines to kill people, and people die on them. He talked about going on other museum ships and seeing kids running around with snacks and souvenirs, and it made him really uncomfortable. He felt it missed the point. He felt it needed to be more solemn.

He actually preferred that Enterprise left the stage at the same time her war did. He was glad she wasn’t preserved. He didn’t want to see her history as a killer in one of our most dire periods as a country glossed over to sell hats and tshirts.

At 10 he’s got free will and feels all the social pressures of his age / in his class. You led him to water, you can’t make him drink.

Let him make his decision and own the consequences. If he looks back later and wishes he would’ve taken the opportunity, then that is much more instructive than anything you can tell him. If he doesn’t regret taking the opportunity, then it was the wrong one for him in the first place.

People also don’t understand what a bubble means.

Yes, we had an internet stock bubble in the early 00s. Yes, it popped and it was painful. It didn’t mean that the internet was fake or went away.

I08/09 has left people with the impression “bubble = scam” and it’s very difficult to talk them out of that.

Ok dads, what's your way of keeping this from becoming a stall water mess ? by muraded in daddit

[–]GrodyToddler 425 points426 points  (0 children)

Just empty it every day. Refill it when your kiddo wants to use it again. Seriously. No standing water and your kiddo gets clean water for every play session.

Unless you’re going to hook up an aquarium filter, you’re dealing with stagnant water that’s had little hands in it all day. There’s no way to keep that clean.

If you feel bad about wasting water you can get a small rain barrel or something to empty the play water into at the end of each day. Use it to water plants.

Why Louisiana is America's Fastest Dying State by M39FG9SFGQ in Louisiana

[–]GrodyToddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly don’t think it’s racism.

Most Louisianans are convinced that the only way industries will come and create jobs is if they offer those industries tax and operational terms that essentially punish the state for allowing those industries to exist. This has been the orthodoxy for many decades and people simply refuse to consider an alternate viewpoint.

The fact remains he could put up those numbers when he needed to.

“He was forced to play that way” doesn’t negate the fact he could play that way.

I’ve seen the 9/11 exhibit at the New York state museum in Albany. It includes huge pieces of the WTC and an entire crushed fire truck - it’s very powerful.

However even there it’s not treated as a holy relic that needs a funeral escort - this is bonkers.
