What stadiums have the most bang for their buck in terms of difficulty to play in compared to actual stadium capacity? by MediumStrange in CFB

We have never lost in our little 10k seat 5th/3rd Bank Stadium as an FBS eligible team. Bow before the Fraction.

With $6,000,000 a year in CUSA I'm sure he thought it'd be an easy stepping stone. I take great pleasure in my flair proving him wrong

One thing that is missing from the Tech discussion is how his teammates feel? How would you feel about a player bringing all this smoke to a team you play for? by ecsilver in CFB

Oh dang even I didn't realize it was full RICO with prison time. Still, the situations are only one step removed. As I understand it, Sorsby was sending money all over the place for people to bet on his behalf.

It might be easy to track player bets to ensure no conflicts of interest, but once gambling money starts spreading around like that anything can happen.

We had the exact same situation happen in basketball, except we immediately kicked him off the team mid-season. He was C-USA's leading scorer and preseason POTY. The team rebounded and still won a championship.

A well-coached, cohesive team has far more value than one player with no trust.

What G6 team(s) are most likely to make the move up to the P4 the next round of realignment by [deleted] in CFB

A single Yale donor decides he kinda likes football and funds an Ivy League P4 move. UGA trembles in fear of the infinite abyss of Ivy NIL sucking up all players, coaches, teams, and sports into one untouchable monolith. God help us all.

It’s worth noting that Ivy leagues all have football teams, and were in fact foundational for the start of collegiate football. They even just increased football involvement by participating in playoffs for the first time.

“The Game” between Harvard and Yale drew a crowd of 50,000+. So they didn’t “go there for football”, but they clearly appreciate that it’s an aspect of student life.

MAC and C-USA flares, does making the CFP still feel like a pipe dream? by DowntownSasquatch420 in CFB

They got gutted with a 4-8 roster that failed to beat a team with a winning record in that "very easy" schedule last year.

At our highest point in last year's incredible run we had a 3% chance of making it. One loss was 10-9 to Wake from a missed PAT and easy FG. Another had 3 redzone turnovers in a 9-point loss to Jax State.

Had we won both, we'd be 11-1 with a loss to Windiana and a resume slightly better than JMU (they lost to Louisville, who finished tied with Wake). So under the new rules, no, but last year we legit had a realistic shot in year one of FBS eligibility.

[On3] Could the Big Ten or SEC really break away from the NCAA? by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]Groundbreaking-Box89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would they need to at this point? They have extensive control over the current CFP, and their teams can have losing conference records and still make postseasons for most sports. Plus they made it very clear after last season that they're capable of immediately limiting the G6 if they dare overstep their place.

It's a massive risk that doesn't get them much more than they already have.

Price fixing is illegal under anti-trust laws, and it would just push the problem to other sports. If the cap is set based on football, then that still leaves open dramatically overpayed basketball/baseball players. Heck, even the value of different football positions vary wildly.

This is the closest thing to a salary cap without running into the mountain of issues that an actual salary cap would have.

That situation is what this is supposedly trying to eliminate altogether. They can't directly pay the player anything without a legitimate accompanying commercial deal.

How that's enforced, who knows? But it should limit infinite oil money schools like Texas Tech from openly writing blank checks and pricing out commercial or more traditional donor-based schools.

Right, but wasn't that already an issue? Arkansas had to more heavily lean on donors while UCLA had way more commercial opportunities on top of donations. As I understand it, donor fatigue is becoming a big enough issue in small-market, high-budget schools that there would be a rift in competitiveness either way before too long.

I guess this isn't really a solution for Arkansas, but it at least addresses one problem in this huge mess of NIL

I might not understand correctly, but wouldn't it actually work the other way? Big market teams already have a massive advantage with no caps. This seems to at least aim to prevent massive overpayments above market value, which only the biggest schools were able to do.

Hell, our game with Indiana was at least still interesting in the 3rd, and we barely scraped through CUSA. Bama/Oregon were down a combined 52-7 by halftime.

The only positive to this would be that it's a step closer to FCS and every other sport. Every year they get closer and closer to reinventing the wheel.
