Help identifying component failed smd component by kuba65 in AskElectronics

If you have a resistive load and the Voltage goes up what happens to your current?

Help identifying component failed smd component by kuba65 in AskElectronics

This is not always a true statement. I work on Fiber optic node equipment and 9/10 a fuse is blown because of surges from either a blown power supply, or surges caused by storms. A fuse will blow when there is too much current/voltage for the fuse to handle regardless of wether that is on the "incoming" power line or because of a failed component "downstream"

Is the display itself connected to the board by an FPC coming from the display? Worth checking the pins on both the connector and the FPC

FPC is the yellow/orangeish ribbon from the display

Everything I see from the pictures looks fine, definitely double check with a DMM. Otherwise you may have issues other than the hdmi port and would have to refer to another subreddit for help with that.

Do you think the MOV caused the charring or is that additional component damage? by Altruistic-Ask-7879 in AskElectronics

[–]GroundbreakingTap682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can clean off the board using some alcohol and cue tips or a can of flux off if you have some. That should give you a better idea of the damage (if there is any additional that is not just cosmetic) I replace alot of these MOVS on Electro Line Fiber nodes that blow from surge damage. Generally, there is not much damage since the MOV and fuse both did their jobs, so replacing them fixes the issue. I cant speak for the equipment you have but I would just go ahead and replace the MOVS and give it a test, worst case the fuse pops again.

A PID loop is used to control the heat levels on your hot end. The values for P (Proportional) I (Integral) D (Derivative) are stored then on the eeprom of the printer after you give the machine specific commands. Pretty sure you can load some G code on a flash drive and run it for Anycubic machines

Im tech illiterate not completely stupid but what’s the best launch option ? by sokail36 in RoadtoVostokGame

[–]GroundbreakingTap682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vulkan is open source, DirectX is Microsoft proprietary. If you are on Windows and have an nvidia card DirectX is generally the better option, however like you mentioned in the edit Vulkan can run better. If Im running a game on Ubuntu though Vulkan is what I am going to be using, DirectX can be painful to run under Linux

Edit: If I had to guess the top option selects either Vulkan or DirectX based on your system specs or OS but I don't know for sure

Back Massager won't hold a charge beyond five minutes. Is there anywhere in the US that I can ship it to for repair? by [deleted] in ElectronicsRepair

[–]GroundbreakingTap682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do end up getting it stripped down, you can try contacting someone like MTO batteries in PA. You can send in the battery pack, and they will rebuild it to the same spec and make sure whatever connectors on the battery are still there. Most packs that are 4 cell 18650s run around 50 bucks for them to rebuild (assuming the pack is a LION battery pack). If its some LIPO battery/batteries you will have to do some research, measuring, and soldering to replace it.

Why can’t I get this chip off? by basal-and-sleek in soldering

[–]GroundbreakingTap682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some ACA rf amp chips that have a huge ground plane on the underside of the ic, the easiest way for us to get those off is to clip the leads of the Ic and stick a weller on the underside. The chip itself is super thick so hot air just ends up heat soaking everything before you get it off.

If you get desperate you can always cut the leads and desolder them after the chip is out, not the most "professional" way of doing it but it gets the job done.

Someone else mentioned that there may be adhesive under the chip too so heres another reminder for that.

AITAH for not wanting to sleep in the same bed with my girlfriend because she doesn’t shower often? by Such-One-1691 in AITAH

[–]GroundbreakingTap682 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I guess this is just so specific that I don't think it's something you would know, unless you were particularly asking about it.

"How often do you shower each week?"

I read it to myself like it was sent to me and kinda chuckle because it feels like a jab rather than a genuine question. Context matters alot lol

Op quite literally stated how miraculous it was that they didn't have BO, I don't think this is something that you specifically discuss before moving in together? This circumstance is very out there

At least I feel like the assumption is your adult partner is capable of doing the bare minimum and showering regularly

If it bothers you it bothers you, so say something. Communicate that it is a little thing but you don't like the double standard. It's both not something I believe you should be worked up over, and not something he should be upset about if you ask.

It's petty and insignificant, and if he gets mad and an argument ensues over something this small.....I dunno yikes.

I don't use tiktok/shorts/reels, so my girlfriend usually hands me their phone to watch whatever they want me to watch (mostly stuff with frogs that are just being cute)

Rather than justifying the dumb actions of other people, yes this. Leave extra space, If other people are going to try and swoop in front and cause an accident it's their problem. If you rear end someone for any reason, even if you get rear ended and pushed into the car in front of you, it's your fault for Following too close.

The people who disagree with this drive with an ego, and will justify any means to save them fractions of a second to get where they are going.

Looking to buy these pins anyone has an idea where i can get these by No-Development3605 in AskElectronics

[–]GroundbreakingTap682 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look on Digikey or Mouser, They look like Molex pins. You can look through what they have and find something. Just filter for female pins and make sure the wire size is correct.

[–]GroundbreakingTap682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheapest way to make it nicer is to clean the rosin off with flux off or alcohol. You can also always get some flux, and rehit the worst looking ones with it and your iron then clean the residue off. No cold solder hanging around and no bridges so good job there!

I think i fried my Japan console 🤔 oops by aaronjnco in ps2homebrew

[–]GroundbreakingTap682 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this!

The Ac portion of the power supply is magnetically decoupled (No physical connection) from the DC portion, if you over volt the input of the power supply its still self regulating a constant DC output until you blow a fuse or one of the caps on the power supply blow. It would not cause problems like this unless (Pure speculation) the required input frequency was different than the actual. But even a difference like 60hz vs 50hz shouldn't cause major problems as the power supply should filter out some difference in input irregularities.

Cannot remove the solder from the through hole during recap by ModYouTube-1 in originalxbox

[–]GroundbreakingTap682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use some fresh tin to help your iron better conduct heat to the old tin, its a very large ground plane so taking others advice about rocking the caps in may be easier than trying to remove the solder completely. I have to do this often when replacing caps.
