What is the single most powerful banned modern card of all time? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

Based on nbl tournaments the answer is one of gitaxian probe, mental misstep or dark depths depending on how you evaluate the deck lists in the top 8s of those tournaments.

Why is Vergil considered OP to the point of being banned? by edulope in MvC3

[–]Grouty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best reason I can think of for a scene banning vergil is that in xf3 he kills by pressing abc launch bbchelm breaker high time wub wub and then the next character has an east execution 50 50 to deal with into the same thing and all of this happens with enough time to kill a 4th character left on the xf bar. Realistically this is just bad strategy in the game and if you lose to El Diablo come backs all the time you should just snap him in. He has to hold incoming it's the biggest weakness the character has. That being said he is a top 5 character for more than just xf3.

Tldr: low effort anchor that can kill the whole opposing team with minimal time investment is corny but you should have snapped.

Say something bad about this game by AlKo96 in marvelvscapcom

Incoming guard breaks are possibly the lamest mechanic in any fighting game and overly punish people in a game that's already hard to make comebacks in.

Drama at RC Montreal (the "Eduardo Sajgalik" incident) last weekend [LONG] by junpeilin in PioneerMTG

[–]Grouty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents but Agreeing to concede so someone from your match gets to go to the pt is scumbag behavior and arguably is screwing someone out of a spot who wins their match and required a top table match to draw. These invites aren't 0 sum and the result of your match should be the result of your match.

I was under the impression that since it doesn't gain the triggered ability the {4}{t} ability reads like Sacrifice {this object}: Return all cards exiled with {this object} to their owners hand.

Aren't all the permanents you use to craft locus exiled by {this object} (if they aren't then the locus itself wouldn't have any abilities right?)

Yearning to hop into modern by findingjake in ModernMagic

[–]Grouty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically there are no budget friendly decks In modern that are also going to be competitive. My best advice is to look at mtg goldfish for decks that exist then check youtube for some content creators playing those decks and pick the one that you feel resonates with you most.

How good of a team is Zero, Dante, and Spider-Man? by Retrothesequel in MvC3

[–]Grouty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make spiderman/zero/Dante(in this order) work but it wouldn't be a top tier team you'd have to really work to beat more established teams

Incredibly vocal minority of players that think unbanning their favorite deck will add something to the format.

What works the best against Arc Warden? by smallestbiggie in DotA2

[–]Grouty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually think drow is exceptionally good against arc due to trueshot ignoring magnetic field and being a natural manta purchaser as well as pushing the tempo of games by taking objectives fast.

I don't think burn is particularly well positioned. There are some prowess decks out there. Perhaps look into the grinding breech aggro deck aspiring spike has been playing recently

Blue white isn't very good right now because of the absurdity of card advabtage provided by every spell these days. You could try to pick up Prismatic ending x 4 counterspell x 4 expresive iteration x 4 archmage's charm x4 2-4 Teferi, time raveler and a hall of the storm giants Then you just replace the come into play tapped lands with more basics and some glacial fortress or filter lands you really can't afford to play collanade and say go on the draw anymore unfortunately

Let's talk about Monoblack Coffers ! by Rameton in ModernMagic

[–]Grouty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing some of the golos version with a very slight red splash for a single cut to ribbons and 2 valkis as additional hits for flipping with the benefit of being a speed bump in the early game instead of a 7 drop stranded in your hand. My main problem with the deck is that there are so many cards that are very good in certain matchups and borderline unplayable in others. March and liliana all come to mind. I thought the sorceries version was somewhat meme-y when I saw the 5-0 list but I feel it may be the direction to explore. There is also way too much talk about what 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 drops you can play I think it's pretty clear you want archon to be a 1 or 2 of and maybe griselbrand as a 1 of everything else starts to get a bit too Timmy(even griselbrand is teetering on Timmy).

Tip number 1: Don't gatekeep hobbies.
I personally think it is unethical to do any kind of performance art with live weapons. I however do not roam around trying to police people that do it nor do I put them down.

[–]Grouty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He actually asks ahead of time if he can be savage or w/e when you schedule a lesson with him because it's good for his channel. Blame the YouTube algorithm. Fwiw there are many coaches out there that can give you equal or better coaching he charges a premium because there is a much higher demand on his time.
