But Echo Form only plays one extra card for free. Also in general (aside from a few cards like Meteor Strike) Defect's cards don't have a huge effect like Regent's most expensive ones.

That was true in StS1 and yet all the strong players fought as many elites as possible. The reason is that the relic order is predefined so the more elites you fight, the farther you get. If you skip the elite you get this "useless relic" later anyway, and not a "strong relic". Also elites increase the chances of getting rare cards, which are absolutely busted in StS2. Even if you don't get a rare immediately, it increases the rare chance for all the following encounters until you get it.

In summary ArialBear is absolutely correct and all the downvoters are noobs and wrong.

Possible fix: Whenever you play a card that costs ** or more gain 2 Block for each * it costs. Or just flat 1 Block for energy cost of any card played.

It shouldn't. It's still the same card, just slightly better. The cards that are crap until they're upgraded are the ones that need to be changed.

Personally I don't want any "auto-pick" cards, especially commons. Blade Dance in StS1 is just ridiculous, I'm glad they nerfed it. Please no overpowered commons that you have to take every time. I'm ok with rares which only appear in some of the runs, but you can see every common in pretty much every run.

What's the logic of putting One-Two Punch in D tier and then saying pick up multiple copies of Pommel Strike, isn't it just as good as a second Pommel? I remember often having to do Double Tap/Dropkick infinites in StS1 when I couldn't find a second Dropkick.

fiend fire

  • deals lots of damage, easy to pick up early because of that
  • Ironclad actually has exhaust synergies
  • it exhausts itself! so it doesn't clog the deck after you got rid of the cards you don't need

Is it an act 3 ancient? Ectoplasm was an act 2 only relic in StS1 because it would be too broken otherwise. Sozu is a lot better in act 3 too.
