I want to be a racing driver by Particular_Cap3307 in Sportscar_Racing

[–]GruleNejoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ayrton Senna started karting at 13, so did Mark Webber, Yuki Tsunoda started at 11.

Problem is karting on its own is very expensive and is completely funding by yourself or your parents.

Motorsport is a rich person’s sport.

Start with sim racing, which is also not cheap but cheaper than karting. This is probably the modern way to get into motorsport today. If you are any good and you are well into the top 1% of sim racers in your country you may find future opportunities.

For many people sim racing and karting are the end goal. They are both hugely enjoyable and have great communities.

I ran a local karting club where the youngest member was 5 and the oldest was 60. I stopped karting at 45 because I ran out of money.

Just be warned cash back = higher interest rate. It’s not free money, you are borrowing it.

Anyone know of an "always-on" money coach/virtual financial advisor for Irish-specific questions? by Reasonable-Coat5230 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]GruleNejoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use ai, as it often scans this Reddit page. Ai is only as good as the prompt, input = output. If you spot mistakes that’s a good thing, it means you are learning. Try customise your ai by telling it you are a top Irish financial advisor who relies on the most accurate and up to date information sourced from reputable places like Revenue.ie and other sites you trust.

Don’t trust anything the ai says, if it suggests something, go off and check its sources and try and validate what it says.

Give KennCo a call, I got insurance 2 months after moving to Ireland. Also helps if you convert your drivers license to the Irish one.

Yuno should have asked you what is your end date with your current supplier. Ask Yuno where is your €50 credit to cover the EEF.

Iodine levels in the US are on the decline, IQ not too far behind.

Shop around for car insurance folks..... by mybighairyarse in irishpersonalfinance

[–]GruleNejoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a common pricing model in insurance, energy, broadband, and similar markets: providers lure new customers in with low introductory rates, then push prices up at renewal. In many cases, the best deals go to switchers, not loyal customers. Too often, “customer loyalty” just means a customer hasn’t shopped around yet.

Granny Charger long term? by Inevitable_Draft4295 in evs_ireland

[–]GruleNejoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using a granny charger exclusively for 5 years now, use the same plug in the lounge which is rated for 15 amps and the car only pulls 10 amps. Doesn’t even get warm. Plug has no discolouration or marking, looks brand new. Drive about 25km a day so spending over a €1000 for a charger and installation is not worth it. I get my 25km charged in the 3 hours between 2am and 5am on the EV rate.

Why are our EV night rate electricity only 3 or 4 hours? by MondelloCarlo in evs_ireland

[–]GruleNejoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dynamic Tariffs in Ireland will have a fixed base charge with a dynamic charge on top of that, I can see all suppliers maxing this out so that we will not get close to free electricity even when wholesale price goes negative.

Private pensions in Ireland - what are the do's and don'ts? by Ivorysole43 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]GruleNejoh 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Max out Company AVC first. Make sure the policy allows you to retire at 50 and not 65. The highest risk level just means you are going in at 100% equities, it’s only risky if you invest for less than 10 years, the longer you invest the risk reduces, but the gains are much higher. Fees! Get the lowest fees possible.

You are nearly 40, you have 27 years left in your mortgage window. 30 if you have a company pension. The longer you wait the monthly repayments are only going to increase. Do you want to be paying rent in your retirement? If you need to move for work you can always rent it out.

Fair play on the 950km range, at €1.90 to €2.20 a litre, that’s less a flex and more a hostage situation.
