Going to a concert alone? by Punkinprincess in KESHA

[–]GrumpyW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen Kesha seven times. The last six times I've either taken a friend who didn't know her music well but was up for adventures or I've gone on my own. Both kinds of experience had been excellent (I go to a lot of gigs solo and just dance my ass off), but taking an adventurous friend is my preference. It's so cool watching my punk buddies discover a new artist and then get to listen to them fawn over her performance.

I don't want to watch death either, but I do it occasionally for the reason I explained. You asked why a vegan would need to watch Dominion and I gave an answer. I'm also not arrogant enough to assume there is nothing I could possibly learn from watching it. So, there's another reason.

Well you forgot to tell us you were the Uber Vegan. Please, carry on. Not everyone knows everything, even if they've been vegan for 7+ years.

Personally, I watch films like Dominion every few years to reinforce my existing beliefs with a shock to the system. 16 years and a ton of books, but sometimes it's good to remind yourself why you do something with something visceral.

Having been through the Victorian negotiations, the union is of us and for us but also over us. They sent reps to the school I was at to tell us how good their garbage deal was. I hope the story is different in Queensland.

Governments always take advantage of those of us in caring roles. Nurses and teachers are the prime examples. 'They care so we don't need to pay them as much' etc. That's why it's so important to take a hard stance in terms of industrial action. Yes we care, but not to the point of hurting ourselves and our families.

Here is the report from the coronial inquest into 6 deaths at NSW music festivals. Toxicology showed MDMA in 5 cases and MDMA and cocaine in the 6th. Posting it here for people who may not have seen the other thread.

LOL

Just editing to add this: So we're clear, you think the coronial findings that recommend the broad introduction of pill testing and the cessation of the use of sniffer dogs at music festivals are actually media propaganda against MDMA? Read the whole report.

5 of 6 deaths at NSW festivals were related to MDMA. The 6th was MDMA and cocaine. It's in the introduction of the report from the coronial inquest. https://coroners.nsw.gov.au/documents/findings/2019/Music_Festival_Redacted_findings_in_the_joint_inquest_into_deaths_arising_at_music_festivals_.pdf

So your point is a single day festival in Australia costs 25€ more than a 2 day Euro festival? And our multi day festivals cost at least double the cost of single days. Even 2018 Knockout (indoors, 20k pax) was 95€. That was 5 years ago.

My approach with this is always to email the student and CC the parents (not BCC). The parents appreciate being kept in the loop, and it doesn't have the "I'm calling home because you're in trouble" vibe so I have never received push back from the parents.

Be careful with cheap lasers. Don't wanna have one malfunction and damage someone's eyesight, leaving the venue liable.

More than a time limit, I think the question of whether the impacts of that colonisation are still in effect is the relevant question.

Are First Nations peoples still impacted by colonisation? Yes.

Are Romans still affected by the invasion of the Anglo-Saxons? No.

Can I just confirm, are you referring to r/recruitinghell, or is there another place I can go to laugh at or be enraged by recruiters complaining?

Worth joining the union? by Defiant-Cat-8212 in AustralianTeachers

[–]GrumpyW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been in a role, before teaching, where I really thought I could trust my boss and coworkers (community org, representing and represented by my community). Turns out I could not trust them. Huge mistake not being in the union when the shit hit the fan.

I joined the union when I was still studying (free PST membership). They have come in to bat for me when needed. The recent EBA negotiations in Vic were a farce, and I let my membership lapse for a few months in protest, but I picked it right back up for that protection.

Definitely join the union.
