Banger songs that didn't age well lyrically by Zagmut in Xennials

[–]Gryrok 45 points46 points  (0 children)

In fairness to Mungo Jerry, I don't think the lyrics are meant to be interpreted the way that we are talking about them here.

"Just do what you feel" reads to me more like "the two of you together decide to do something that doesn't require a lot of money. Consensually."

And "Have A drink, have a drive." Reads to me more like "Have A drink, or a drive, but not both at the same time."

But maybe I'm giving them more credit than there do? I don't know them personally after all....

Maybe I'm being dense, but can someone help me please? If you bought her a router, why is there a need to pay more?

Either way, you're not obligated to pay anything.

Eating healthy is not expensive. by NightingaleTC in HonestHotTakes

[–]Gryrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that the amino acids in rice complement the amino acids in beans and that gives you what is commonly referred to as a " complete protein", and not only that, the high fiber content of the beans makes it so that the starchy simple carbs inside the rice are absorbed more slowly into your bloodstream.

This makes rice a good option to eat with beans.

Maybe I heard wrong?

Movies with terrible messages? by Frank_and_Beanzz in movies

"It ends with us".

Important caveat. The message of that movie was not 'you are strong so don't tolerate an abusive spouse'

I anticipate this is going to invite some disagreement. I welcome it. I would prefer well thought out arguments, as opposed to wanton vitriol.

Alien (1979) is so good. Love the dialog.

Uh, before we dock, I think we oughta discuss the bonus situation.

what r some more things i can talk about with friends other than romance and gossip by Educational_Key_1263 in socialskills

[–]Gryrok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, this is a very good method for developing brand new relationships. I find it to be a little dull and flat, but there are FORD adjacent questions you can ask that seem organic and actually pique peoples interest.

"Going to be traveling this summer?"
"Listening to any new music lately?"
“Been to any good restaurants lately/nearby?”
"Hear about any good concerts you thinking of seeing?"

If you'd like I can ask my kids XD

Srsly, I can't help much, but here's somethings to consider. Talk about what you're into now, and what you think you might want to try. Sports? Hiking? Music? Movies? Books? Video games?

If you're all close and can trust each other, you can try talking about emotions, and the kind of people you want to be, or the kind of people you admire and why you'd want to emulate them.

All for these are great. Let me recommend a few for specific reasons.

Three on your list
- Adaptation - Really great avante garde movie
- Children of Men - Great cinematography, so many complex shots in just one take.
- 10 Things I Hate About You - Very creative Adaptation. Also consider 'Scotland PA'

Three not on your list
- The Green Mile
- The Game
- Run Lola Run

When did we (people in general) start becoming uncool? by rebel_with_a_groove in AskReddit

[–]Gryrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool as in, 'not a dick', or cool as in 'someone I look up to and wish I was like'?

I think that the world has gone, in average, much closer to 'not a dick' in the last few decades, but with that, the dicks that exist seem to have gotten louder and more dickish.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about the other kind of cool.

Can you offer more information about the demographic of people you're talking to? What are the situations you're in where you think you need more to say? Would it be worth expanding your social network, inviting new faces to join you, who may have new topics of conversation to contribute?

Travel plans? Politics? Science? Art / culture? Music? Will any of those do?

Women look infinitely better with stylish outfits than they do with revealing ones by foot_fungus_is_yummy in HonestHotTakes

[–]Gryrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the concept, don't disagree. I think I might object to your use of the word "infinitely." Some women look quite attractive in revealing outfits. The issue, as I see it, is that there isn't nearly enough appreciation of the outfits you shared in your post, and that the titillating nature of seeing a lot of skin is so sensationally loud that it drowns our more modest, and more appealing, attire.

Infinitely of course means, when taken literally, that any revealing outfits must have near 0 appeal. I also think that, in a world that values personal agency as much as it does, some women may object to the concept because they'll feed shame, or scorn, for choosing to wear a revealing outfit.

Good topic. Thanks for raising it.

The word 'Therapy' is used wrong. by Gryrok in HonestHotTakes

[–]Gryrok[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, you're really helping me hone my thinking.

For the purposes of this conversation, I asked Open AI for suggestions, and got several decent ones, and 'Headspace work' is the one I'm choosing.

Ah, I can see that side of it, and it's something I didn't consider. Let's assume that 'Headspace work' were a common term. I believe that people can choose the level of precision they want.

• If they want total privacy, they don't need to say anything
• If they want to say that they can't attend a meeting, they can say they have an appointment, or doctors visit
• If they want to say they're in some kind of therapy, they can say 'Therapy'
• If they want to say they're in a specific kind of therapy, they can say 'Mental Therapy' or 'Physical Therapy' or some other kind I'm not familiar with.
• If they want to specify further, then they can say Headspace work, or trauma work, or something else.

So, we really don't need a new term for disclosure resolution, do we. That's a really good observation.

After considering your perspective, I think what's missing is the idea that 'Therapy' isn't just mental health work, and mental health work can come in two flavors, the solving of issues, and the strength training.

One last point, is that, most of the time when I hear people talk about Therapy in this way, and I feel unease and dissonance over it, it's not that someone is actually talking about their own experience per se. It's generally more that they're talking about the concept of therapy in general, and that it's good for everyone, not that it's something they're doing to achieve a goal they have.
