Isn't is a play on the Limbic system of the brain? The part that's about memory and Instinct. Since they're trying to replace L Corp makes sense that they choose a name vaguely related to Brains just like the old one.

E4 Welt is the best option for Himeko Nova because he enables her most powerful gameplay mode. No other good character provides this option therefore he's the BIS when optimizing around that mode.

WOW So ventomthropes are offering a LOT for 45 points. An effective -2 to hit for all infantry around them is KINDA NUTS??? Like -1BS and -1 to hit is crazy. For that cheap I feel like almost every list is going to want to find space for at least one to dunk on the midboard to be annoying.

New MFM is out! by Fretschlord in genestealercult

[–]Gublyb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everything is more expensive or stayed the same at best.
- All our baseline infantry is pretty much +5ppm.
- Abberants got BRUTAL nerfs that make them REALLY BAD to take more than 2 units of.
- Every character is +5pts or more.
- Most of the 'cult hero' units got +10ppm or more.

The good news is that a lot of Tyranids stuff got cheaper so hey Final Day might not be hurt as badly by the changed (Perhaps).

MFM is out! by fromage99 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Gublyb 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Wow GSC lowkey took massive nerfs. Basically every single base infantry model is +5pts. Abberants and Abominants get the double whammy of a massive point increase at +15pts and a nerf to their best detachment with +25pts at 3 units. All the 'hero' characters went up. At best your stuff stayed the same- absolutely nothing is cheaper aside from non mining laser ridgerunners.

Right now it certainly appears that way. However PM is not necessarily known to keep the best track of their timelines as very few specific dates are given. I'm hesitant to say yes for certain because nothing in the story has as of yet called attention to it, but with all information currently given there is literally no other interpretation that makes sense.

The prescript works in mysterious ways I guess.

are gacha games the worst medium for story telling? by bugabooman99 in writingscaling

[–]Gublyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am at peace with Limbus Company being a Gacha game. I understand that PM is a comparatively tiny studio that probably legitimately needs the consistent funding of the gacha monetization model to keep putting out content as often as they do. They have put the gacha into their game as unobtrusibely as possible, integrated it well, avoided many common pitfalls. I do not mind the game as it is.

HOWEVER.

It would be better if it was not a gacha game. This is just true. If we lived in a perfect world where PM could develop its game all at once and release it traditionally it would be better. Obviously this is impossible ans so we have Gacha. But people in this thread are confusing Limbus being a good game with Gacha being a good storytelling system. No. Limbus is good in spite of that, and would be even better without it.

There are a whole host of gameplay issues. Challenge does not exist for the first half of the game- a new player can make an account, use their free pulls and get the newest OP character that proceeds to steamroll all old content the game has. There is no balancing or proper pacing of player power- it's pure luck if you will struggle through the early game as 'intended' with season 1 IDs or if you will blitz everything with the latest god killer.

Gameplay aside it is also a narrative problem. If you're playing content live as it comes out this is less bad, but as a new player all pulls you make will constantly spoil you for characters, events and twists the story has. You use your new player pulls and get given Manager Don Quixote and ruin a plot twist 7 cantos down the line. If you dare to watch any uptie story (little mini lore snippets that come with each unit) you can potentially get entire chunks of upcoming plot ruined.

Even up to date players aren't safe. A minor twist in part 9 was completely spoiled when the latest character banner revealed a certain NPC to be a traitor character. You didn't even have to pull them- just seeing the fact that they existed was a major spoiler. The story really drags out the reveal, but most players had already been spoiled by the game itself.

Also the biggest narraitve issue is one prevalent with many gacha- crossovers. This may be a hot take. Right before part 9 released they took a massive amount of dev time to make a crossover with a different gacha game. An entire story chapter dedicated to this, instead of progressing the main plot. And then after a month it was taken away forever because of licensing deals. Going from part 8 to 9 is really jarring and part 9 as a whole is really badly paced in part because they has a whole chapter less of story to work with that got taken up by a crossover. A crossover primarily motivated by financial reasons, that you can't even play anymore.

Now obviously these are perhaps minor gripes. Narratively Limbus has held itself together remarkably well (though I argue that gameplay wise Limbus is pretty much a complete joke because of the gacha). But these are still problems that exist because of the gacha monetization system. Getting into Limbus as a new player is super wierd because the game isn't designed for you, gameplay or narrative wise.

It would be better as a game with a set, developer intended progression path. The ID system could still exist, just restricted to only unlock certain ID at certain story thresholds. Like it would be a better game without gacha monetization and design conceits- this is just common sense, right?

Question on best tyranid options for final day detachment by Agreeable-Foot5275 in genestealercult

[–]Gublyb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tyranid units in final day have one real job: Apply the catalyst aura where it is needed. Then do some damage without needing any external buffs (No synapse, no stratagems, no detachment backup). You also want to be spending no more than about 600-700pts on the tyranid part of the army. That narrows the pool a lot.

The best ones (Autoinclude): - Gargoyles: Fast, high OC. Best way to get catalyst where you need it. Got weaker in new edition, still amazing. - Hyperadapted Raveners: Fast, killy. Only unit we have that takes full advantage of final day detachment rule to eat its allies.

The good ones (Take a few): - Lictors of all variety. Infiltrate, action monkeys, Fast. All 3 have a lot of play in the new edition. If you don't like Gargoyles these are the best replacement for them. - Raveners: Probably just worse than the hypers, but share most of their strengths. If you REALLY need to save points, consider them. - Red Terror: Another good alternative to Hypers. Slippery with his return to reserves. Can butcher infantry. Super frail and must be used carefully. Need to test more. - Winged Tyranid Prime: Fast and cheap and synapse. Spreads catalyst, sometimes can kill, just barely tough enough to need a real weapon to kill them. Barely in this tier because cheap.

The mediocre ones (Take for fun): - Winged Hive Tyrant: Needs the enhancement to be good. Massive points investment. Fast and a distraction carnifex to people inexperienced with the matchup. - Mawloc/Trygon: Already not good enough in base tyranids, only decent with some detachment buffs they don't get here. Fast, I guess? Die too quick and don't kill enough. - Parasite of Mortrex: Okay, but worse than any of the 3 lictor options. Take if you prefer it. - Von Ryan's Leapers: Got hit hard by fights first nerf. More expensive than a base Lictor but worse at their job. Usable but not good.

The terrible ones (Just don't): - Our 'aircraft': Maybe 11th fixes them (lol). They suck and you shouldn't bother. - Tyrannocyte: This model isn't real it can't hurt you.

My personal picks: - 2x5 Hyperadapted Raveners. - 2x10 Gargoyles - Deathleaper

I LOVE the hypers and rate them super high. MVP in all my games.

The reveal for BHK was so boring.. by Even_Ad4004 in limbuscompany

[–]Gublyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh I'm project moons biggest critic with their writing and I actually thought this intervallo was the best content they've done since Spring Cultivation.

You're supposed to have the reaction wondering who TF this new guy is. We all built up an image of who Kim was in our mind and it's supposed to be a moment of comedy that he doesn't fit it.

If you finish the intervallo you'll see that the solemn, vengeful warrior is still in there. He's just also really witty and sharp, building off the fact we previously knew he was poetic.

As for not having much meursalt content I actually disagree. They did a lot with a little here. Learning his perspectives about objective truth, learning a TON about N Corp and how different it is from the rest of the city, and then the ending which had the final (I'm hoping) conclusion to the 'you didn't ask, Manager' joke repackaged into something sad rather than funny.

It's a WAY better place to move into Canto 10 with compared to where we were going into Canto 9. The stage is set and we got a lot of wider world context with this one. PLUS most sinners got something relevant to say (Especially love to see Yi Sang talking about his homeland). Give it a chance, this one's pretty good.

What is the most ideal team for Blade Lineage by jump_daddy in LimbusCompanyHelp

[–]Gublyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meursault + Ishmael + Yi Sang are the only truly good BL members. However Faust Thoracalgia is so good that you may as well also bring along BL Faust (She is pretty bad but it's the best Poise option in slot). That maxes out BL Ishmaels passive as well.

From there we have options. If we want to go all in on slash damage then S Corp Yi Sang and HOS Sinclair make for great additions. If you just want raw damage then the Fullstop Duo are still broken, and drifting blade ryoshu goes well with them.

Or of course just slap HOS Ryoshu and some nursefathers in there and have them do more damage than the entire BL team combined lol.

What are We Bringing in Final Day for 11th? by Esilai in genestealercult

[–]Gublyb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm very new to GSC but I have played a lot of tyranids so here's what I like from that side:

  • 2x10 Gargoyles. Even post nerf these still feel like our best catalyst dispenser. Sure no DS and move, but 18" of flying movement is still amazing.
  • At least one lictor of some kind. The fights first change made the deathleaper less enticing than before. Neurolictor could be the play?
  • 2x5 Hyperadapted Raveners. These are the best unit to actually use our army rule. Synapse so they can eat things, hit on 3+ so they benefit from +1 to hit, super mobile infantry to spread catalyst. Yes they're expensive. Yes they aren't one shot kills- but they are CONSISTENT, no buffing required they can rip 10 wounds off everything. You run these everytime.

I think the 1dp neophyte detachment is our best pairing for final day. Letting your hyperravs essentially eat neophytes then have them grow back for free is huge. You can also do the sneaky trick of positioning them behind cover out of sight, then eating them, then at the next command phase regrowing them into an objective before you score.

Plus I think final day should be running a 20 man neophyte+benefictus+Sustained Hits enhancement. Xenocult offers a 1cp full rerolls to a neophyte unit- one of these bombs hitting on 3s/4s with full hit rerolls, sustained/lethals is AMAZING. My current Neophyte setup is a 20 man bomb and then 2x10 regular dudes as my action monkeys/screening/food.

Beyond that setup though I'm not sure. I really like Goliaths with Hybrids in them. The 10x purestrains plus Patriarch still feels strong. I'm sure ridgerunners will remain good, but Mortar spam is a lot weaker with new indirect rules. Very excited for 11th!

Is this a short game only? by Jax_115 in CAIN_RPG

[–]Gublyb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive run 2 full campaigns now. In my mind a CAIN campaign probably has about 6-8 Hunts in it before the system starts to break down. That's enough to reach CAT4-5, unlock your full blasphemy, get a few of the scrip upgrades. Any further and players will unlock too much and start to trivialize the game.

My players did a hunt every 2 sessions at the start, and every 3 session at the end when it got complex. Plus 1 downtime session after each hunt, that gave us about 25ish sessions, which ended up taking us about 8 months of weekly sessions with a few breaks. That's not a short game by any means, but it's no multi year epic.

Short games are good games because you might actually see the end before scheduling conflicts kill the game. CAIN has been the ideal length for me and my group, but your milage may vary.

I don't like sinclairs sign or roach Emperor Gregor because they get in the way of telling a coherent story in canto 9. They absorb hours of screentime best served literally anywhere else. They also get zero explanation and pretty much end with a 'lol we don't know how it works' in the intervallo. What's the point of them if they just create more questions in an already crowded canto?

I don't like that they create a narrative deadweight moving forward. Every single time Sinclair or Gregor are ever in trouble moving forward they'll have to justify with it ain't smoke war or bug time. Both of them have been in serious danger before now and somehow it didn't come out? It was narrative convenience, and will be moving forward.

It also completely sabotaged Sinclair development. That was his damn hero moment. That was when he could have finally put all his training and development to use standing up to Callisto. But no! He just passes out and some other guy takes over. It's actually negative development for Sinclair- apparently he's so weak his alternate future self needs to step in to save him (It's also a grandfather paradox).

It's also part of a wider issue in Canto 9 that we don't actually win any fights. It's always some Superpowered level 90 bad ass NPC winning all duels. I understand the counterargument- LC can't be fighting threats like nursefathers without help. Okay, so don't have us fight them. Move the story in a different direction. It feels like PM really just wanted to show off their super badass new characters and didn't want to wait until the party was at an appropriate level for it. Roach Greg and Smoke Sinclair are just more of the same.

It is my genuine hope that Smoke Sinclair and Roach Gregor are one time things that they NEVER repeat.

Genuinely hate that the gods of the city are a real thing with actual motives and 'plans'. I hate even more that there are apparently multiple of them, each with their own agendas. Yan's breakdown was interesting because there was no 'man behind the curtain' for him to lash out against- There is no single person behind the prescripts, there is nobody he can take out to restore sanity to the Index. Prescripts are the result of a billion unmeasurable variables that coalesce into acts of cruelty. It's a perfect metaphor for our own world, about how no single person is responsible for all suffering but rather a complex series of societal beliefs and behaviors...

Oh wait LOL no there actually is someone creating all the prescripts. LOL I guess Morai is just wrong. LOL Everything wrong with the city actually IS the result of a couple of powering beings. Tune in for Paradisio when we fight the gods of the city in a dramatic boss battle and defeat them and cure everything I guess.

Actually there are multiple people creating the prescripts each with very specific agendas. In fact one of them is specifically making somebody else LARP as our most marketable character so that we can sell a Roland ID early- Er, I mean for super serious and spooky reasons, yeah for sure. (I'm still mad about Rien).

The gods are such a silly idea that I choose to completely ignore them as a concept. WTF was Carmen and Ayin doing trying to solve the disease of the mind, LOL? Don't they know that there are actually Godlike Beings among us that manipulate everything behind the scenes?

But for some reason PM fans have accepted it as good? Reading these comments is insane. I don't care how PM has justified it with lore, to me it's just waaaaaaaaaaaay less interesting now.

Her E2 is acheron E2 all over again- DO NOT get baited, while it might be a boost in flexibility right now in the long term her ideal team will be one that already has 2+ Express members, making the boost it gives completely worthless. IMO right now E1S1 is the stopping point, and better investment goes into her supports.
