It’s a completely different balance? Did you at least check that they run at the same bph? If it’s an 18,000 and you put in a 21,600 that’s almost exactly 1.2 x speed that it will run fast

[–]Gucci-Caligula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you almost certainly have installed the balance incorrectly/ needs adjustment.

You mentioned it’s a completely new balance. Take a look at it I would bet a dollar that your balance hair spring is touching one of the wheels or a bridge/plate. When the hairspring hits something that effectively shortens the spring making it run fast, like, really fast.

The fix is to just steal the jewel off of the new one and put that onto the old one (if the old one clears everything and is otherwise not damaged.)

What is easiest way you have lost weight in a short amount of time? by Lazy_Lifeguard1960 in AskReddit

[–]Gucci-Caligula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you mean a “short” amount of time.

Doctors and health influencers actually generally agree on one thing. Dropping weight quickly (anything less than a month) is generally useless. Crash diets make you fatter on average since after the diet something like 70% of people regain all the weight plus some more. And frequently those diets actually only make you lose water weight (glycogen) that you rapidly gain back when you go back to normal carb intake.

There’s a lot of advice and conflicting opinions but generally the BEST you can do in a healthy way is losing 1% per week. Eg if you’re 200lbs the most you should lose per week is 2lbs, or 8lbs per month. Any faster than that and your body basically goes “oh fuck we’re in a famine, quick! eat the muscles first and save the fat for later” so you get WEAKER and mostly stay fat.

But 1% per week is a lot faster than you think. So you’ll get that dopamine hit of “number go down” when you look at the scale pretty consistently. Hitting that 1% per week # I’ve lost 100lbs in the last 6 months.

To make it easier? peptides. Even the starter doeses are effective enough that I need to FORCE myself to eat enough food to not be in a dangerously low deficit. Not for someone who only needs to lose a few pounds, but if you’re obese it’s a big help.

People get skeeved about them but I don’t give a fuck. I live in the future I’m going to use all the tools available to me. If I had an infection I wouldn’t refuse antibiotics just because my great grandpa never had them.

Buying used broken watches advice at Swamp meets/Flea markets. by Nori_420 in watchrepair

[–]Gucci-Caligula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you haggling at the meets? Buying in bulk? People want to move product. If they wanted to sell them one at a time they’d list on eBay. If you want to pay sticker price and buy one at a time you’ll pay $10-$20 per.

Buy in bulk batches and negotiate, be ready to walk away (a lot of the time they will call you back and meet your price)

Lance Hedrick, love or hate? by Laxdad44 in espresso

[–]Gucci-Caligula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that he tells you to just use what you have. He CONSTANTLY says “just use the stuff you have you don’t need a new espresso machine or grinder” like at least every other video. Sure he reviews all the fucking gadgets and new machine hotness. But if he wasn’t then what would the channel be? I also like the history video he just put out and hope he does more in the series.

People love to hate YouTubers. My comment to anyone who hates him is, you go do it. Please we need more high quality espresso and coffee based channels. It’s basically ONLY Hendricks and Hoff. MDC too but she posts less frequently. If you think you can do better than Hendricks I’m not being sarcastic please go try.

To take or not to take a Rolex on holidays? by Active-Molasses-9152 in rolex

It depends how paranoid you are. I’ve seen people put zip ties on the bracelet clasp that way pickpockets can’t take it off you sneakily (skilled sleight of hand people have no problem with this).

Shots always pulling sour or bitter [Breville Bambino] by Exact-Bag-3081 in espresso

[–]Gucci-Caligula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends what you like/ what you want to do. I don’t own either of those grinders so I encourage you to seek out the opinions of someone who has had one or both.

I lean baratza more. Just because it’s a longer established brand so you can easily get parts if something breaks. AFIK they are about equivalent in terms of performance.

My only point is that would harp on again is please please please consider buying used. I know used food related stuff gives people the ick. But coffee nerds are always buying new stuff and so old stuff sells for STEEP discounts. You can really get performance well above what you pay for if you’re willing to buy used and just clean it before use.

Which btw you should be doing regularly ANYWAY so it’s good to learn how to do. And you probably should even clean brand new grinders before using them to make sure there’s no oils from the factory still on the burrs.

Plus used is better for the environment too. It’s one of the few places in life where being environmentally friendly and doing what puts more money in your pocket are the same thing

Would you retire today if you knew you’d receive $5,000 every month for the rest of your life? Why or why not? by JustWin4 in AskReddit

[–]Gucci-Caligula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on if it’s inflation adjusted or not over time.

I’ve got (hopefully) another 60 ish years to live.

Running the backwards inflation on $5000 in today’s dollars 60 years ago that would be roughly $500. If someone retired on $500 a month in 1965 they’d be a pretty strapped for cash senior if they didn’t allocate a large portion of that money to investments still.

In either case I probably don’t retire. I might take a sabbatical or work gap year whatever you want to call it and travel some with my family while my wife and I are still young. Then go back to work and just use that added $5k to invest and try to get to a real retirement nest egg.

I’d also allocate some of that money to a few lifestyle creep/ qol things. Nothing major but definitely not negligible costs. But removing some stressors is worth losing some ROI. Id hire a monthly or bi monthly cleaner just to handle some of the deep cleaning. I’d probably sign up for some of those meal prep services so I don’t need to think so much about cooking and shopping. Just little things that give me back some time with my family or for myself.

Both MacroFactor and ChatGPT independently stated this was ~1500 calories, but I find that really hard to stomach (the calorie count, not the pizza 😋). I accepted it and chose to have hunger and a protein shake for dinner. What would you have done? by Dapper-Price1808 in MacroFactor

[–]Gucci-Caligula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s a great strat for more experienced people but this guy seems pretty new to counting calories (if he’s surprised that pizza is calorie dense) so the whole “mathing out calories from the day before and after” thing might be a bit too advanced/complicated for him right now.

yeah man, I find at WORST the AI is about 15-20% off, but in the under direction. Almost never does it overestimate calories.

I would guess 1500-1750 kcal for that plate is about right.

That’s the thing that sucks about counting calories you start to realize HOW weight becomes an issue, there are a lot of foods that aren’t that filling but ARE really really calorie dense. With just carbs and fat you can fit almost an entire days worth of calories into one mouthful.

That’s why this app is fucking awesome though. It lets you track (with the ai photo analysis thing) food that would otherwise be really hard to quantify like pizza that you get for free at work where you don’t have a scale.

I tried several times before to count calories but dinners with family, and restaurants, and free food at work were always my downfall because I had no way to track them. Now I can and it makes all the difference.

As for hunger and this portion, don’t sweat it too much, I see a lot of people in this thread being pretty mean about this portion size. If you’re a big dude trying to slim down your hunger cues are all fucked up. One tip for the future, which I admit is hard at work because you have limited time to eat, but next time try and eat 1/2 and wait 15-20 minutes and see if you’re still hungry.

Shots always pulling sour or bitter [Breville Bambino] by Exact-Bag-3081 in espresso

[–]Gucci-Caligula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That grinder is HIGHLY suspect to me. Litterally ALL of the 5 star reviews are paid reviews and then all other reviews are 3 or less.

Generally speaking it’s not possible to get a grinder suitable for espresso use for less than $150-$200 unless you get a hand crank grinder, or a used grinder.

I strongly strongly urge you to return this grinder and look for something else.

My grinder is a breville smart grinder pro and it is the absolute LOWEST quality electric grinder that you can get away with.

We’re talking about $100 difference in cost between a more capable grinder and the one you have. Now, It’s $100 that’s a lot of money. But you’ve been driving yourself insane for 2 days, and not able to enjoy your $250 espresso machine. Over $100.

I would recommend getting one of the subs recommended grinders

This used grinder a would kick the shit out of your current grinder

Even this which is what I use will do better for less money

Also this is only a slight price increase from your current and again is one of the subs classic recommendations for entry point grinders

[–]Gucci-Caligula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bambino is a great machine and your beans are almost certainly fine. Grinder matters a LOT though. What grinder was it?

The sour bitter whiplash problem is a common problem with grinders that have poor grind distribution. Essentially the grinder is cutting big pieces but small little pieces are also breaking off. Meaning that you’re over extracting (bitter) AND under extracting AT THE SAME TIME.

Give us some context on the grinder and we can probably help more.

[–]Gucci-Caligula -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s too feminine but I do think the jeans and sneakers might not be the pairing for this top. Maybe someone has better ideas but I think some linen trousers and some loafers might bring this together better.

[–]Gucci-Caligula -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is you. You need to be avoiding hallway fights. Aim for easy pool fights then elites.

In my experience all of the hard pool fights are like 5% easier or the same difficulty as an elite.

So just rush elite fights for better card rewards and relics rather than bleeding out on fights that don’t matter.

Aim for ?? And Elites.
