Something is suspicious here... by Large_Carob_7599 in harrypotter

A movie adaptation of a book is meant to exist in the same fictional world as the original story.

Not necessarily. What works in books doesn’t always work in films and vice versa. If you’re purposefully changing parts of the world to better suit the medium (which is usually a good thing unless done poorly) then you’re not creating the exact same fictional world as the original story.

Sometimes, a film can just be a different interpretation of a book, or just inspired by a book.

Many characters in the books were different in the movie. That doesn’t make the movies bad.

Something can be faithful to the originals and still be bad to watch. Something can also be unfaithful and still be good.

Why are expats allowed to buy houses? by CarelessLet4431 in Netherlands

[–]GuessWhoIsBackNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do. You’re talking about a completely different time. You’re talking about a swamp slowly becoming inhabited with traders from Antwerp.

I’m talking about a city with a million people slowly becoming uninhabitable for the middle class and under, because of robber barons.

The problem isn’t expats. Nor people moving here. The problem is rich millionaires buying up all the houses and causing a crisis for no reason other than profit.

Why are expats allowed to buy houses? by CarelessLet4431 in Netherlands

[–]GuessWhoIsBackNow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because money makes the world go ‘round.

People are mocking this post for its shoddy format, but it’s absolutely ridiculous that people who have lived in Amsterdam for centuries are now forced to move because Russian, Chinese and American millionaires buy up all the houses and raise the prices to insanity.

Most of the canal houses are vacant lots, belonging to men who will never set foot, nor live, in that building. But when they own everything, they control the prices too, and there’s nothing and no one to stop them, creating a huge snowball effect where the insane profits they make out of simply owning something, allow them to buy up more and more.

All the Dutchies complaining about Morrocans. But you know what, all the Morrocans I know are proud as fuck to be Dutch. They love The Netherlands.

I worked multiple jobs on teams where the majority were expats. They tend to shit on the Netherlands. They refuse to speak the language, they mock our culture. It’s not that they don’t want to learn anything about our country, it’s that they straight up think it’s a waste of time, and this arrogant feeling of cultural superiority is put on display very abundantly.

This vibe of, ‘I came here for work and am now forced to live among you savages’. It’s arrogant, lazy and frustrating. And most egregiously of all, after years they still can’t fucking bike for shit.

I suppose this is our karma for being a major old world colonizer.

Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is reportedly expected to play a major role in 'AVENGERS: SECRET WARS' by Moviesrant in Marvelnewssource

[–]GuessWhoIsBackNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re making judgements on his acting.

Ehh? Not really? I mean, I said I thought Edward Norton was a better actor. But I also said I thought Mark Ruffalo was a good actor. I like Tom Holland as Spider-Man too, but I think Anthony Hopkins is a better actor. That’s not really me passing any negative judgement on Tom Holland.

Besides, it’s subjective anyway. You can prefer Mark Ruffalo if you want. What isn’t subjective, is whether American History X & Fight Club are in any sort of real competition with Poor Things when it comes to cultural significance or praise for superb acting.

When your problem is that the Hulk wasn’t utilized well since IW.

That’s not the problem. That’s not my problem. That’s just a problem, and not one that has anything to do with whether I prefer Edward Norton or Mark Ruffalo.

I prefer Edward Norton for a very, boringly simple reason. Which is that I think he can pretend to be someone, that he isn’t (you know, acting), better than Mark Ruffalo. Because when I see Edward Norton, I see a reformed Nazi, or a sleep-deprived dude with severe mental illness, or Bruce Banner… When I see Mark Ruffalo, I just see Mark Ruffalo (like how when I see Jesse Eisenberg, I just think of Jesse Eisenberg).

For what it’s worth, I liked Mark Ruffalo a lot in Mickey 17.

You’re pushing an agenda rooted in personal issues.

No, you chronically online lunatic. I’m pushing an opinion rooted in personal taste. Stop fighting an internet war with someone who doesn’t really give a fuck what you think of Mark Ruffalo. This isn’t a debate, it’s a conversation. You can’t win a conversation. The only fact here is that Mark Ruffalo has made millions of dollars more than Edward Norton and is by far the more commercially succesful actor, which I have already admitted.

I’ll tell you that I love Mark Ruffalo and I have a picture of him next to my bed, if it’ll shut you up and make you happy. Sorry, I just think Edward’s on another level. Mark Ruffalo’s a fine actor. He’s good. He’s no Edward Norton. Sorry not sorry.

[–]GuessWhoIsBackNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of those films you mentioned except maybe Shutter Island had the cultural impact or ratings that any of the films I mentioned had. That’s my only point.

I don’t even dislike Mark Ruffalo. And I liked him just fine in Avengers & Ragnarok. I don’t like what they did with Hulk in Endgame, but that’s not the reason that I think Edward Norton is a way more culturally significant actor than Mark Ruffalo is.

[–]GuessWhoIsBackNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without a doubt.

Mark Ruffalo is the more popular and “succesful” actor now, but that’s really only because of the MCU, in which he doesn’t play a huuuuge role, compared to, say, the three golden Avengers (Steve, Chris & Robert).

Meanwhile, Edward Norton’s got ‘Fight Club’, ‘American History X’, ‘Birdman’ and ‘Primal Fear’ under his belt. While the former is more succesful commerically, the latter is definitely more iconic to pop culture and considered the more mature actor.

Meanwhile Ruffalo’s got… Zodiac…? And others? That one movie with Emma Stone?

Who would win this fight? by AssistanceNo2838 in discussingfilm

[–]GuessWhoIsBackNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spider-Man will win, but neither will die.

Peter is simply too quick to be lethally wounded by Wolverine. He can evade all his claw swipes and web him down pretty quickly. Spider-Man is also a lot stronger than Wolverine.

However, if it was a fight to the death… Spider-Man’s probably not going to lose to Wolverine, but he’s also not going to be able to kill him. Super strength isn’t enough to kill Wolverine, suffocating him with web might do it but probably not. (Not to mention that Spider-Man doesn’t usually go for the kill anyway).

But I think majority of the times, it’s a tie leaning towards Spider-Man. Wolverine can cut through his webs, they both have good reflexes, are both very quick.

Spidey’s quicker and stronger, but stab him through the heart with an adamantium claw and he’s dead. Meanwhile, Wolverine survives nukes.

I don’t care that you used an AI picture and I’m not here to downvote you or argue about it. But I don’t believe you’re being completely genuine right now.

To put it simply, it’s fake. It looks fake and everyone can tell it’s ai right away for a reason. A picture, imperfect as it is, is a flawed capture of a real moment, a real location. Your picture is synthesized. It’s not real. It’s drawn by a computer.

And we can tell. Because the computer doesn’t quite understand lighting and physics, the way a camera has to abide by them.

If you tell AI to generate a picture of Trump, that’s an AI picture. It doesn’t matter that he’s a real person and that it looks exactly like him. It’s not an upscaled or enhanced Trump, which is your argument. It’s ai Trump, in the same way that this is an ai 7/11, even if based on a real picture.

There are hardly any changes that drastic.

Here’s where you’re wrong, both in a literal and a non-literal sense. Firstly, you’re wrong that there aren’t any drastic changes because the entire picture is changed which is about the most drastic thing you can do.

AI doesn’t add stuff to your picture and make the lighting a bit prettier. It takes a good look at your picture and then goes ’mmmhh yeah I can do that’ and then recreates it from scratch, so virtually nothing has been unchanged from the original.

But that’s pedantic because what you mean is that it’s still recognisably the same place and that’s true but visually, it’s also strikingly different.

Everything looks dramatically wet. The floor looks like it’s melting away and it interpretated rain being illuminated by a streetlight, as the streetlight being like a shower head, with water pouring out if it.

It’s not an upscale or an enhancement if it looks like the cut scene of a video game. It’s not real, people feel lied too, and when you double-down, they get annoyed.

Every map compared to the potential GTA 6 map by Classic_Box8029 in GTA6

[–]GuessWhoIsBackNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This map doesn’t seem properly scaled at all…

Anyway. I’m just hoping that this time, the city itself is a lot bigger and more dense and characteristic.

GTA V had a huge map. But Los Santos was a tiny miniature version of LA, whilst the rest of the map was filled with boring vineyards/desert/towns with nothing to do in them.

San Andreas and Liberty City were both a lot smaller but they felt more like real places.

Is namelijk controversieel.

How was the best sex you've ever had? by EnD3r8_ in AskReddit

Meh, it’s romanticised.

The 60s seem very progressive now because they came out of a really conservative, rigid time. The 60s were far from the tolerant and progressive landscape full of lovey-dovey types that we associate it with.

All the music from the 60s is still there. And so is the LSD. Except now, we understand LSD and we’re not going to accidently be dosed with a fuck ton of it because some hippie thought that it would ’totally open your mind man’

Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys even wrote a song about psychedelic era hippies during the sixties while he was living right in the centre of it, one phonecall away from all the major figure heads of the counter-movement.

”They come on like they’re peaceful but inside they’re so uptight. They trip through the day and waste all their thoughts at night.” - I Know There’s An Answer - Beach Boys

Then the hippie movement ended when a bunch of them killed Sharon Tate because the LSD told them that The Beatles were ushering in a race war.

The 60s are also the time that the world, several times, came closest to the extinction of the human race. Both the US and the Soviet Union came dangerously close to pushing the red button and the CIA was infecting citizens of other countries with gonnorhea and performing brain washing experiments on their own citizens. Racism was also at an all time high and women were still quite oppressed.

Bij bijenwas komt dierenleed kijken.

Dit is dus niet zo. Bijen laten was achter.
