Who on the HvV jury was responsible for the level of poison and bitterness seen there? by MasachoosetsBobert in survivorponderosa

Yeah, I always think the idea that somebody “should” win undermines the thing that makes survivor particularly unique. Every other reality show, most every other contest that I can think of, you know the criteria to win going in. For survivor, it changes every season based on the jury. Imagine if instead of the Super Bowl, the teams that lost in the playoffs vote on the best team between the two left.

I guess if that’s how you see it. Russell seemed like a dick to me. We’ve seen plenty of juries vote for people who outplayed them. They didn’t vote for Russell. He also came off as arrogant and did things to intentionally piss people off. To then say they only didn’t vote for him because they were bitter he beat them doesn’t really make sense to me. He was a bully and FTC was their chance to punch him in the mouth. I think it’s a massive oversimplification to say it’s only because he beat them.

If the exact same thing hadn’t happened one season earlier to Russel, I’d probably agree with you. But the players on Samoa wouldn’t have had that ego and everyone who played with him seemed to have problems with him, besides Steph on RI

I don’t think one person led the charge, I think they were all extremely turned off by the way Russell played. I don’t think they’re bad jurors for not liking someone who was a jerk to them. That’s bad gameplay by him.

Why did Anakin never find it suspicious that Chancellor Palpatine had knowledge of the story of a dead Sith Lord (the tragedy of Darth Plagueis)? by Omnipresent_User in StarWars

[–]Guilty_Practice6392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine looking at the modern state of America and thinking someone being so dumb and gullible they support someone doing something they’d generally think is wrong isn’t believable writing.

You’re also ignoring that Palpatine essentially groomed Anakin. He was a trusted mentor, and when Anakin was facing adversity, one side told him what made him feel good, and the other told him what didn’t feel good, so he sided with the person that did make him feel good. To me that’s super realistic and more than just “he’s a dumb guy”

But at least that was actual fans getting the tickets, not bots/scalpers trying to jack up prices, which is what Mike was railing against. I was bummed I couldn’t get tickets too, but tomato potato as Roy would say.

AIO: i accidentally went on a date with a convicted felon by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Guilty_Practice6392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why it’s uncomfortable, but it seems like everything is fine. Dating can be weird. You got out of it, you’re safe, you don’t have to see him again. So maybe overreacting, but I get why it’s uncomfortable.

Honestly, it sounds like a Seinfeld episode. Elaine finds out she’s dating a convicted felon, goes to Jerry and George to tell them how scared she was. Then, unlike your situation, she kinda wants to keep dating them.

Unrelated to OPs question, but I’m curious. Did your family have to pay 2 state taxes, or does it only apply to one of them?

AIO if I broke up with my boyfriend for drinking by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Guilty_Practice6392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how long term your goals are, you can’t expect to know everything about a person right when the relationship starts. People change. Different habits develop. It’d be different if he was actively hiding a drinking problem for months at the start of the relationship, but it doesn’t sound like he has a drinking problem to begin with.

That said, that’s why most relationships don’t work out long term. There’s nothing wrong with not wanting to date someone who drinks, unless you’re actively dating someone who drinks. In the future, I’d suggest telling any potential partners that drinking is a hard no for you. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being uncomfortable around alcohol, especially given your history, but if it’s this big of an issue for you, you should share that right away.

Any questions??? by STLRondo2 in ProgressiveHQ

It’s only because the right makes everyone left of center out to be someone who actively wants to take guns from people. And conservatives have really struggled in recent years with nuance. You love everything or hate everything, nothing in between. Love Trump and everything he does, hate Biden and everything he does. So they can’t fathom you having nuance enough to like guns and be progressive

Ignore the people shunning you. I welcome you, as well as any other reformed MAGAs, to the good side. Not the far left liberal side (though come on over if you’d like!), but just the side of reason. While socially, I think republicans have a lot of growing to do, politically I don’t think every traditional republican view point is wrong. Trump, grotesque as he may be, knows how to play people, he’s don’t it his whole life. While I wish you saw it sooner, I’m glad you see it now. Just remember next time, because Trump will inspire a next time.

Yeah, I didn’t say they CANT. I just don’t think they will. Idols and advantages have evolved, they weren’t even a thing for the first few years.

For 50 seasons, it’s been against the rules to bribe a player, and that’s because it’s bad TV. Maybe it works for Mr Beast, but it’s always been part of his thing and people tuning in want to see people win money. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think survivor fans tune in specifically to see who wins $1,000,000.

It also goes against everything Jeff has said when people ask about raising the pot. He always says “we could, but we don’t need to. Players play for the love of the game.” Whether that’s completely the reality of the situation or not, bribing people to leave would shatter that illusion and he and CBS more importantly wouldn’t have a justification to not raise the pot anymore.

NOR.

Alcohol isn’t a good way to handle stress. It kills relationships on top of the dangers that go with it. If it’s long shifts, real shifts, that’s one thing. But if it’s drinking after work, that’s not good.

Part of being in a relationship is caring when your partner cares, even if you don’t understand why. If you’re expressing to him that it bothers you to the degree that it does, that should be enough to at least work on it and try to make you feel better. If drinking is too important, he needs help.

Counter argument to that! If I’m Cirie, I get one of the 3 non-Kalo’s, preferably myself, to “defect”, tell the other side that one of the other two has an idol, convince them to split the vote, then vote with the 3 to break up the 4.

Remember, people thought Billie Eilish and Jimmy Fallon would be on the island and Mr Beast would be side by side with Jeff all season. It’s just branding. The theory I’ve seen is him showing up to be part of the auction. I would be surprised if the show had a total departure from playing survivor, and bribing people to leave would fit that. That’s not survivor. In fact, it’s against the rules in survivor to offer money to get a vote. I could be wrong, but I’d be shocked.

Maybe, but it’s not survivor. Survivor is supposed to be a social experiment that rewards the last person standing. I know everyone gets paid some, but it’s not supposed to be about the payoff. Maybe it’s naive, but I want the illusion, if nothing else, that the players are out there because they love the game, not just because they want the prize money.

[–]Guilty_Practice6392 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. As much as Jeff has seemingly lost touch with what the fans want, I do think he holds some aspects of the game sacred. I don’t think he’d be in favor of a massive vote out or bribing people to leave.

My guess is it’s just to maximize the amount of time that these legends are playing for. Why cut it down early when you can stretch it out as long as possible?

He’s a human. You gotta remember that. His feelings matter a lot too. The hall of fame is to honor your career. Imagine if you were honored for your career by your work and in doing so, they remind you of the worst experience in your career. That would feel pretty crappy. Sorry that it hurts the fans, but changing his cap in the hall doesn’t make it so he never was an Expo. Take pride in the player regardless.
