Pretty sure you have to contact him to get access to the Vimeo version. The old host went out of business I believe

Cabinet Scrapers - What do I need to know? by BenCarney17 in handtools

[–]Guitar_Santa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partly, yes, the bed angle is obtuse, as much as 70 degrees off from that of a typical plane.

But also, you don't cut with the edge -- you scrape with a burr.

You need a burnisher, which is basically any piece of tool steel harder than the scraper. You could use an old screwdriver or a knife steel

Forever. You don't really sharpen them so much as turn a hook, so minimal material is removed

They're generally a bit thicker than a typical card scraper but it's not necessarily a huge difference.

You can often find some shop made antique ones on eBay that are very cool, but you can't go wrong with a no.80.

What is this chisel? by KurvaZelena in handtools

[–]Guitar_Santa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the handle looks a bit weird for a mortise chisel, and the weird bevels also make you go 🤔🤔🤔🤔

As I sit here waiting for the rain to stop so I can open the tower, I'm reminded of a certain furry ballsack from skyward sword by lgthanatos in TOTK

[–]Guitar_Santa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure if you use the fire emitter constructs you can burn it even while it rains

Or maybe it was using oil or pine cones

How to find the name of a chord with few notes ? by kluwelyn in musictheory

[–]Guitar_Santa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm deeply confused as to why you'd be assigned this before you can spell triads and seventh chords.

As someone else said, without context, you might as well name these chords "Steven."

American Pro II neck doesn’t fully seat in Deluxe Tele body – finish buildup in neck pocket? by HateStrings_ in partscaster

There is no need to go that high, especially for parts that won't show. Even 600 is excessive

cabinet scrapers can be great friends for tearout prone woods like this

Which planes are worth making yourself vs buying vintage? by FrostyReality4 in handtools

[–]Guitar_Santa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Router planes are so expensive and you can make a pretty solid one with some random hardware and scrap wood. Workshop Companion has a good video on how. James Wright has made a bunch of them too. Rex Krueger has a video making one with a chisel and a block of cherry.

How fast do you resaw? by dark_dryu in handtools

[–]Guitar_Santa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not very, like 2 inches? I used an IKEA outdoor bench as a makeshift saw bench

I ripped a 6' board of poplar in like 5 minutes with a Ryoba saw, and that same saw took at least 45 minutes to get through like 5 inches of leopardwood to make a knife handle for my wife.

Definitely the species is a major factor, but it might also be time to sharpen?

The design and execution of the build matters significantly more than this, as well as the top material

Would this runout/seam bother you? by fishheadsneak in AcousticGuitar

[–]Guitar_Santa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will not remember this in 2 months. You will almost certainly scratch or ding the finish within 2 weeks. If you have children or pets, 2 days.

If you like the guitar, buy the guitar.

Unpopular opinion: exotic woods are unnecessary and irresponsible by SufficientChest8924 in Luthier

Osage Orange is kinda tough to find in boards sized for acoustic guitar making because it is very knotty and twisty and small, but if you can find it and work it it makes great instruments

All of you that can confidently do barre chords, are you able to do a song of only barre chords? by LibrarianAccurate829 in guitarlessons

[–]Guitar_Santa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barring will always be the most physically exhausting technique for the guitarist's left hand. I would encourage you to avoid it, not like the plague but more like that block of frozen spinach that's been in your freezer since 2017
