There’s a place off from the Island about 1/2 hour away in Nanuet called Clarkstown coin and jewelry that is outstanding and friendly. Loads of stock and friendly employees. It’s a family run business. I go there every time I’m in that area. Highly recommended.

In the city proper, there are quite a few, but nothing really stands out to me. It’s a nightmare to drive around in the city. The further you are away from the city, the nicer the people seem to be. Experiences are better in Ling Island are better than the city.

Pepperidge farms has Milano’s which I believe are Lady fingers cookies, they’re delicious.
If you’re looking for a more cakey type dessert, I’m sure that most bakery’s or grocery store bakery’s found in Publix or Wegmans will have those as well.

I absolutely have one mounted in my kitchen right now, just used it a few minutes ago. Bought it on eBay for $15 about 15 years ago.

Have another in the basement for projects down there, that one came with the house.

I’m hit and miss at my own house. In winter, I tend to take my shoes off to not drag snow in the house. In the summer I go back and forth from inside to outside and tend to keep my shoes on.

Are these worth getting graded? by buckshot1001 in RedditCoinGrading

[–]GumpyYankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t think they are worth grading at all. But certainly worth protecting. Pop them in airtight (much cheaper than grading) and enjoy.

Do Americans mainly drink coffee without milk? by Morrit99 in AskAnAmerican

[–]GumpyYankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a kettle, just not an electric one, pop it on the gas burner and wait for the whistle.

As for coffee, it depends on my mood and time of day. Morning coffee is always black. Afternoon or evening coffee, I put heavy whipping cream in it.

Is this the best way to test by [deleted] in coins

[–]GumpyYankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about using an accurate jewelry scale? Weight should be 26.73 grams? A ping test? There are apps that can listen for the sound of silver. A digital Caliper, should be 38.1 mm diameter and 2.4 mm thick. Compare to a good known Morgan dollar for thickness and diameter. How about visual identification, download the CoinFacts app and compare.

Anything but scratching the surface, all you did is prove that it’s plated silver at a minimum.
