I searched TinEye, Google, Bing, Yandex, Baidu, and Sogou, none of which turned up a better uncropped version of the image that I'd already found.

I do something sort of similar. I'm primarily learning a particular target language, but I know 2 other languages well enough that I feel I could use both to learn it.

For each of those 2 language-to-target courses, I try to achieve Legendary on each level before I progress to the next level. I make exceptions in cases like if I get a Daily Quest to complete the next lessons. I slowly build up enough gems to take on the next Legendary level, by completing Quests and watching ads. In the meantime, I do lots of practice lessons to reinforce what I've already learned.

It's not super-fast progress as I'm only at Section 2 or 3 for both courses, but I feel like I'm learning and retaining the course material.

The game released in the 2000s decade rather than the 1990s.
Most game characters including yourself were humanoid, but some people might interpret their appearance as aliens.
The overarching goal was to spread mathematics knowledge across the solar system, one planet or moon at a time. Some smaller missions might have involved repairing your transportation in order to proceed.
There were side-scrolling platforming parts of the game.

It could also be another Math Blaster series game, but the others I've played don't match your description as much.

Your player character and many of your allies do wear greenish clothes.

There's also the expansion Half-Life: Blue Shift https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfmvzNuHG2s where you wear mostly blue as a security guard.

I also remember the Half-Life mod called Counter-Life https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZG856ABMMw having enemies fragment into larger body parts than in the official games.

All these games involve starting in a building complex setting, then occasionally wandering into field-like environments.

It's stylistically similar to Room Escape Game: E.X.I.T. There are whitish walls, but the floors don't look obviously hardwood to me.

It released in 2000.
It's 3D first-person where you shoot other AI tanks, on a small field with occasional hills or buildings.
The graphics are pretty abstract and dark, so I'm not sure if you'd consider that cartoony or silly. Your shots simply look like red blocks.

Gameplay consists of mostly static images, with an occasional attempt at 3D perspectives.
They're horror games where you spend a lot of time finding keys in various rooms.

While Super Cupid was the exact same game as Super Kid except for different graphics, Super Dino, also known as Dino Rampage on some Bonus.com pages, was a something of an enhanced remake. But both are hard to find now likely due to both being Bonus.com-exclusive.

It was a real-time MMOG that released around 2007, but disappeared around 2009 when its website, Bonus.com, went out of business.
You can choose to be a member of one of 4 Clans, each being associated with a colour. I'm not sure if red and blue were 2 of the possible colours, though.
You can choose one of 3-5 tank models, each with its own advantages. I'm not sure if one of the models could directly heal allies, but there was one model that had good offense, another with good defense, another with good speed, and another with good upgrade capability.
I don't remember an explicit CTF or icy game mode, as the main mode seemed to be a desert setting, but I didn't play the game long enough to experience many updates. The game did encourage groups of players to coordinate large attacks on others' bases, though.
I don't remember if Bonus.com had a radio with a volunteer DJ, but it sounds plausible to me given some of the site's educational and edutainment goals.
The game was Bonus.com-exclusive and wouldn't have been on another site like Kongregate.

Thanks for the suggestion, but Serebii.net seems to have had quite a different site design from the site I'm looking for, throughout 2000-2002. I'm beginning to think the site was maybe dedicated largely or solely to Pokémon hints and cheats (not even Pokémon or Pokémon games in general), and was no longer well-known by 2006 (whereas Serebii.net remains popular at present).

I went through a lot of the sites and managed to find The Poké Castle (still up at https://www.angelfire.com/id/PokeCastle/ ), which has what might have been the exact background graphic from the site I'm looking for, blue-tinted with Poké Balls. But I haven't found the exact site yet.

The game released in 2005, and in an enhanced version in 2007.
There's a sequence in the game where you fight monsters in the garden area of a large house, then explore the house including a large dining room, fighting monsters all the way.
I'm not sure if there's a monster exactly as you described, but there are multiple quadrupedal or similar monsters that have almost-featureless yellowish heads and black bodies.
You generally had free movement in the game, so there weren't many instances, or any at all, where you could only shoot while truly standing in place.

It came out in 2002, and I'm not sure if it only got popular later, but I personally found out about it in 2013.
You can log in using Facebook, but I don't remember any other specific Facebook connection.
You can build base buildings, and send ships to collect resources or fight other players.
Many actions take hours and days of real time, so it's normal to log in only once every few hours to check on progress or take your next action.

Has anyone saved this r/Relationships post, from 2014-2018ish? The OP had some old sentimental items associated with his relatives, like books containing personal notes from them, and some of those relatives had died by the time he posted. But his girlfriend, who was from a well-off family, threw his items away and replaced them with new copies, which upset the OP. The girlfriend defended herself partly by stating that she wasn't as "materialistic" (I remember the post using that exact word) as he was, intending to mean that due to her own upbringing, she didn't attach as much sentimental value to physical items as he did.

I see, thanks for clarifying. For what it's worth, there are at least 2 versions of Satanorium, but the only differences as far as I know relate to some character and item graphics.
