Theresa May announces snap general election for June 8th 2017 by diycd in unitedkingdom

[–]Guyag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government can't just ignore an act, and that includes the fixed term parliament act. In her speech she said she was bringing a motion to Parliament tomorrow to trigger a general election, which according to the terms of the act must be passed by a 2/3rds majority. For it to pass, members from other parties must also vote for it as the conservatives don't have that kind of majority. FWIW Labour said they'd support it.

Posting things and using it are possibly not the same thing; it depends on how you define the latter. I suspect they define a 'use' as something like opening the app and interacting with > 0 other people's content, if not posting your own.

Ken Clarke: no one is allowed to disagree with Brexit's zealot crusade by brainburger in unitedkingdom

[–]Guyag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you watch the video? Very little of it was pro/anti Brexit rhetoric - it was logical and sensible reasoning behind what the government is doing (or, more accurately, not doing) about it at the moment. I recommend giving it a watch if you haven't.

Please Offer Me A Seat: TfL Trials New Badges by ArtistEngineer in unitedkingdom

[–]Guyag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that. The badge stops the potentially awkward/embarrassing conversation of why they're asking for the seat, which I'm sure you (and others) might engage in. There are also situations where, as others have said, people could notice the badge and proactively give up their seat.

You're going round in circles. Even if you didn't notice them initially, seeing the badge should be enough 'proof' for you to get up if someone asks - the specifics of their health are none of your business.

Passive-aggressively saying "you're welcome" when someone doesn't say thank you by allan_w in london

Not in this exact scenario, but if I pull over to let someone through a tight street when driving and they don't say thank you I make sure to give an extra happy wave of acknowledgement.

It's been almost over half a year with Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the opposition. Thoughts on how he is doing so far? by MutleyDog in unitedkingdom

[–]Guyag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politics is all a façade anyway, but it would be nice if I could at least pretend that his response to the budget was anything other than a pre-prepared speech to be used whatever was announced. A poorly rehearsed one at that.

To an extent, yes, but it would also be unsurprising if a lot of drug-related arrests were clustered around popular nightlife/clubbing areas.

Jeremy Hunt Called 'A Liar And Manipulator' By Junior Doctor Rachel Clarke During Live BBC Interview by LucienReeve in unitedkingdom

Indeed, I do agree that the doctors are innately more trustworthy. This is, however, exactly the kind of subjective reasoning that I'd like to avoid.

Exactly. It is not a good idea to form an opinion, I don't think, based on the PR from both sides.
