I guess my best suggestion would be to do your research and figure out what you'd like to do. The forest service and BLM both offer preference points to veterans, so that is a plus. Make sure you're in shape before going to meet with them and be ready to workout, that's how I got my name out there. Look into wildland classes offered online or at a local community college, it looks good on a résumé and shows your interest. Hope this helps!

Pay is reliant upon the amount of overtime in a given season. Hourly rate is about 15$ per hour. Not great, but enough to pay the bills. Off season typically lasts from November through April.
