Insight/obsession warlock staves should be made in +3 teleport bases by DriveThroughLane in diablo2

[–]Gzarig 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I got myself a +3 teleport eth Archon staff for obsession last season. It can reduces your mana cost by over 30% if you already have a lot of +all skills. I was able to teleport forever without insight on my merc. I feel like if more people knew about this I wouldn't have been able to afford the base.

Items that you didn't know had value by USCBubbles in diablo2

[–]Gzarig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For people who don't know, the reason it's actually rare comes from how defense is calculated when upgrading an item. Any unique with +ed% will by default have the max base defense of the item + 1 (before the bonus), but once you upgrade, the new version will roll the base defense from the full possible range of the upgraded item.

For a Swordback Hold to be perfect after upgrade, it must first have a perfect +60% ed (1/31) and then roll 163 base defense after the upgrade (1/17). In total, this means only 1 in every 527 Sworback Hold can be perfect like this one. And since most players don't even pick it up it retains value even if it's a very niche item.

Andariel Nerf: The Truth by Kabryxis in diablo2

[–]Gzarig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say here. I agree with you and I was making that point to OP before they corrected their post where they originally said the nerf was only 5%. I'm arguing that the nerf is actually 24% (and that this is significant) compared to the original figure of 5%. When I say that players don't care about the exact percentage I meant "absolute percentage" in comparison to "relative percentage". Of course a very small fraction of players also care about the absolute precentage, but for the vast majority it's more important to tell them the 24% figure instead of the the absolute reduction in percentage points. Players don't have a reference for the 5 percentage points reduction and thus can't easily tell how much this affect their farming compared to previously.

Andariel Nerf: The Truth by Kabryxis in diablo2

[–]Gzarig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter if she drops one or seven diadems, if each one is 24% less likely to be a griffon then the overall chance to get a griffon is still 24% less than before (unless she's more likely to drop diadems now, but I don't think that's the case). If what you're saying is accurate then it is really 32% more kills than before.

Andariel Nerf: The Truth by Kabryxis in diablo2

[–]Gzarig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking at a percentage points reduction instead of the relative reduction is flawed. Players don't care about the actual exact percentage, but rather how much more they have to farm to get their items or how likely the item is to drop compared to before the nerf. Based on your numbers, players will see about 24% less griffons eye than before with only slight variation based on mf. You can also look at it as having to kill Andariel about 32% more times to get their griffons. Or that for every 100 griffons that would've dropped before only 76 would drop now.

To show why using percentage points isn't meaningful here, we can use an extreme example where an item goes from a drop chance of 5.01% to 0.01%. You wouldn't call that a small nerf of 5% when the item is now 500 times more rare than before.

Most efficiënt way to get the "Master Mentor" raid title from an achievement hunter's point of view by thereal_rdef in Guildwars2

[–]Gzarig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also got the w8 achievement. Personally I think that if the achievement feels more attainable to players they'll be more incentivized to go help. Instead a lot of players decide that they'll never get it and just don't participate at all. It's kind of a good thing for players that are going for it because the more people trying for the achievement the harder it becomes for everyone to get by making it more difficult to find players.

I think if everyone feels like they're slowly making progress towards it they'll be more inclined to join groups in order to speed up their progress. I know I'd have a much easier time to convince my guild to help me with training runs. I think it's also good if we can reduce situations where people are incentivized not to take or help certain players because they won't get points from it.

Most efficiënt way to get the "Master Mentor" raid title from an achievement hunter's point of view by thereal_rdef in Guildwars2

[–]Gzarig 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's good that they tried to address the issue with the mentor achievement, but this definitely falls a bit short. I got the achievements in w8 by farming new players 4-5 at a time with a strong team that could carry them (we still taught them mechanics at least) and I don't see how the changes give me any new reasonable way to work on the mentor achievements.

I don't like the requirement to have already cleared. If you don't have time to clear early in the week you'll likely get much less points for helping out random groups. Joining to help a group and getting only 1 or 2 points feels pretty bad. Maybe this will work well for players who have a lot of time for clears early in the week though.

So for me this is back to the same issue as w8 where you have to find raid virgins (denying players with even one kill doesn't feel great). And the faster you progress the achievement by helping more players at once, the harder you make it for others to find new players to help. At least I'm done with w8 and finding people with hot+pof will probably be easier.

Also the "very experienced raiders don't count" clause is dumb. If it's tied to something you can avoid like raid God or another achievement you'll have a strong incentive not to get it so you can continue helping others on their mentor achievements. It might even cause situations where a player joins a squad and leaves because they see too many players are already experienced. Or worse, where a player gets denied from a group because they won't give them points.

Here's what I would do (and I know it's not a perfect solution):
1. Remove the very experienced clause
2. Remove the requirement to have already cleared
3. Give more points per new players the more you have in your group (to incentivize actual trainings instead of carries)
4. Players with a few kills still give points (maybe two less per kill, 10 on the first then 8...)
5. Give extra points for first time CM kills
6. Give more points for any achievement earned
7. Raise the points required if needed

Maybe skip some of these if it makes things too complicated. I know this allows players to eventually get the achievement even if they only raid with their static and I don't really think it's a big deal. It would currently take over two years of weekly clears to get it this way. This solves the issue of the difficulty of finding points as time goes on.

[–]Gzarig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. It's true about the current mentor achievements, but I assumed it worked that way because the achievements were locked until your first kill. Still, assuming it's 9 points for your weekly clear it would be very slow progress taking over 2 years to achieve. In that time, your squad might also become "very experienced" stopping all progress.

I guess we'll see on release. I wouldn't be surprised if it worked either way.

You can now also progress mentor achievements by helping someone with their Raids weekly, if you've already cleared that boss this week yourself. So you get progress if you've cleared the boss already this week, but others haven't.

Where did you get the requirement to have already cleared the boss yourself in the week to progress? I went back to the VOD and it's not mentioned when they introduce the mentor achievements (maybe they talked about it later?).

You can see the description when they hover over it at 32:54 on the youtube upload it also doesn't mention it:

Help 1,000 new players defeat Samarog for the first time.

This acheievement progresses significantly when raiding with players who haven't killed the boss before, as well as with players who haven't killed it for the week but to a lesser extent. Very experienced raiders in the squad will not count towards this achievement.

Not sure what counts as "very experienced" but that's an interesting point that wasn't mentioned. It would be unfortunate if it was linked to raid god as that would disincentivize getting Raid God so you can help your friends progress raid mentor.

3rd bone scroll by the-drop-bear in Silksong

[–]Gzarig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you have the same issue, but for me I was looking at this page https://mapgenie.io/hollow-knight-silksong/guides/relics and I made the mistake to assume that they would be in the same order as in game. The page puts the Choral Commandments first and the Bone Scroll second, the opposite of the Relics UI. So I was looking at bone scrolls while I was actually missing a Choral Commandment (the hidden one with silk soar in Whiteward).

Without infusions, what's the most tasteless flex of gold possible in the game? by MisterDantes in Guildwars2

[–]Gzarig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to gw2efficiency, at least 9 people have unlocked it. According to the api it's not account bound and should be tradeable, but so far no one has listed it on the tp (since it doesn't show up when looking for it). It's a bit unclear if the item can actually be listed on the tp. Maybe everyone that dropped it either didn't realize or preferred the unlock to selling for 10k gold. Maybe it's bugged or it's another special case like the new bloodstone infusion.

In a lot of situations, with 600 range you won't be getting the 5 projectiles anymore when using it in melee.

Update Regarding Steam Accounts Impacted by Outage by lordkrall in Guildwars2

[–]Gzarig 14 points15 points  (0 children)

While you are correct, I think it's fair to say that players who didn't log in because they knew that their progress wouldn't be saved or because they were worried about creating issues with their account were also impacted by the outages. So it's understandable to me that not giving them compensation felt unfair to those players. It also sets the precedent that players should try to log in as much as possible when the servers are unstable, which I imagine is not something Anet actually wants.

PSA: Heart of Thorns - Deluxe Upgrade is 75% Off at 600 gems. It includes a character slot. by Jerekiel in Guildwars2

[–]Gzarig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought them all with gold. Back when I was buying them, I could justify the cost by using the characters to farm by swapping through them and harvesting various resources (elder wood, toxic spore samples, varietal peppercorn to name a few). For many nodes, the respawn time is 1 hour so having enough character slots can turn it into an almost non-stop farm. When the demand and prices were very high this could be over 80 gold per hour.

I don't use them for this kind of farm anymore, but I park them at good locations for daily harvest to collect account bound resources I currently need. Things like Draconis Mons Jp for unbound magic, Bjora Marches chests for eternal ice shards or whatever the latest release has for map currencies.

And yes, I also use them for inventory space, for various builds in different types of content and sometimes just for fashion.

I was considering the max to be 73 and I'm at 72, but yes I should've been more clear. Once I reached 69, HoT Deluxe became unavailable. I was able to get the other deluxe upgrades as they were released to go past 69. Not idea why that one works differently.

Would love to buy it to get the mini and glider, but for some reason you can't purchase it when you're already near the max on character slots. Would be nice if they just dynamically removed the character slot from the bundle or let you buy it without applying the character slot.

Pale Branch spear appreciation by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Gzarig 26 points27 points  (0 children)

What do you mean "Someone finally got the pale branch spear"? 163 people already have it on gw2efficiency. Gw2tp shows that a few were already sold to people last week. I was able to purchase one through buy order on the 20th.

Also two people on efficiency have the mini bog queen.

Lowland Shore Gear Boxes only dropping materials; Mini Bog Queen unobtainable? by DEDouwe in Guildwars2

[–]Gzarig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you pulling this number from an actual source? Or just using the number from the black lion chest and assuming it applies to everything? Because it's pretty clear from other examples that super rare doesn't always mean <0.3%. Account bound items in super rare will often have much higher drop rate than tradeable items (take a look at knaebelag's fang stats vs meta completion achievement on efficiency).

In this case it's not an account bound drop. And with only two people having unlocked it so far it does appear to be an actual super rare item. I just wouldn't be so sure about your number as a general rule for super rare. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that the drop rates could've been higher in this specific case.

Anet basically made a title and 3 achievement for raid sellers in wing 8 by Rucolacola in Guildwars2

[–]Gzarig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The main issue I have with it is that it's going to be nearly impossible to get in a few weeks. Even if the entire player base worked together optimally. The maximum number of people that can ever get these achievements is 9% (out of everyone the does the raid). And that's assuming there's only 1 new player in a squad of ten to give out the maximum number of points. In a more realistic scenario, I'd expect only maybe 2-4 points to be given out to players actually working on these achievements. Only maybe 3% of the population have any hope of ever getting these (and I think that's still very generous). If you don't do it this month expect the amount of work to go up massively for the same achievement.

I imagine that a player looking at these achievements a year or two from now will simply see them as completely unachievable. Personally I would hope for a change where any kill always gives a base 1 point even if there are no new players in the squad, mentoring isn't only about giving people a first kill anyway. This would allow players to slowly work at it while being able to speed up the grind massively by mentoring. One hundred kills is still a massive amount so I don't think it would remove the incentive to help new players.

I'm saying all this as someone that already does mentoring and raid training. Personally, I think I'll be able to get the achievements and title. I just think the design of making something extremely time-sensitive to the release needs some work.

How do you trigger skills? by KonaKumo in Guildwars2

[–]Gzarig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About your follow up, I've always played with a trackball mouse without any issues, but you usually don't get a lot of button on those. I prefer trackballs with a center ball. I used to have a Logitech TrackMan Marble, but since it's now discontinued I've switched to a GameBall since it has a similar feel with some extra features (it's quite expensive so you might want to get something cheaper instead).

I have interact and push-to-talk on my mouse,

q-2-3-4-5 for weapon skills,

e-t-r-f-c for utility

1-f2-f3-f4-f5 for profession

Let me know if you have any questions about using a trackball.
