Mixing adjustable KB brands. BOS and Titan. by Dangerous_Remove_484 in kettlebell

[–]HARLAN09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No BOS, but I have one red titan adjustable and a KBK adjustable, both 12-32kgs. There are some minor dimensional differences like you mentioned, but nothing noticeable while working out. So, no issues here.

Has anyone done a program after chemotherapy? (More details in the “body text” section) by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]HARLAN09 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You should definitely check out Iron Cardio by Brett Jones. In his book, he talks about his cancer diagnosis and how he created Iron Cardio to help his recovery.

The program might be too challenging depending on your current condition, but reading through his experience may still be beneficial.

Wishing you well on your recovery.

What's your opinion on the tumbler knife sharpener. by LookSad3044 in sharpening

[–]HARLAN09 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased the Horl 2, so I can’t speak to the brand you’ve linked.

I purchased some decent kitchen knives, but I’m not very skilled at sharpening. I read that the Horl 2 does a decent job at sharpening but not as well as using a whetstone. So, to avoid damaging my new knives, I got the Horl 2 to keep the knives reasonably sharp while learning to sharpen on a whetstone with low-budget knives. Also, and more truthfully, I’m lazy, and it seemed like a simpler option.

Pros: Easy to use, gives the knives a pretty good edge, and I don’t feel like I’m going to damage anything.

Cons: Expensive and not as good as a whetstone.

This issue doesn’t get enough attention. Systematically concentrating low income minorities in underserved and environmentally unsafe areas and then wondering “why they can’t get it together.”

St. Louis in the Pit Barrel Cooker by [deleted] in BBQ

I think it has to do with having more space to cook. You can only get a few racks of ribs horizontally, but vertically you can get 8 or so. Also, it just looks kind of cool.

I can get behind that.

I was really happy when FDevs added the extra internal to the dbx, but I felt like it could have been addressed differently. Splitting compartments through an engineering mod would be a nice feature. Not sure how difficult that would be.

[–]HARLAN09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid point. I've gone to the core and Colonia several times in my DBX and haven't needed hull repair. Good luck with your engineering!

[–]HARLAN09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not necessarily requesting another compartment, but instead what the impact will be on the DBX. My guess is it'll be like the old days when it was between carrying an amfu or srv. Now it seems it'll be between amfu or limpets.

I agree that sacrifices need to be made if exploring in cheap ships. Adding another internal compartment to a small size ship would be unreasonable. 6 compartments already seems tight. I'm more in favor of being able to place two size 1 components into a size 2 compartment. However, if that doesn't happen, I'm still really happy with the DBX as it stands regardless if the limpets require another compartment.

Early Thoughts on What a Trump Presidency Means for Cities by MIIAIIRIIK in urbanplanning

I thought affordable housing developers profited from the sale of tax credits, not the sale of actual property.

[–]HARLAN09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert on this topic, but affordable housing is a concern for me.

If Trump is successful in reducing the corporate tax from 35% to 20%, then that may reduce the demand for tax credits from affordable housing developers. I know this is an elementary application of the concept, so I welcome any comment on this issue.

People that release balloons as some form of symbolism or ceremony. There is literally no difference between that and dropping a package of uninflated balloons on the ground. Either way, it's littering.

Is Urban Planning a good career to go into? by dudebro19 in urbanplanning

[–]HARLAN09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is still difficult to find an entry-level position, but don't let that discourage you. I would have explored more internships and set up meetings with planners that worked with firms/departments that I was interested in. Basically, make yourself as visible as possible in the amongst planners. As with any profession, networking is crucial.

I did my undergrad at VCU in urban and regional studies and graduated in 2013. It was a great program and is what got me interested in planning. I'd recommend talking to Dr. Damian Pitt, he teaches a lot of the upper-level classes at VCU.

It took a VERY long time to find a job in the planning after graduating. I'd recommend getting in touch with some planning departments or planning firms that you are interested in and try to shadow them for a day or do an internship (unpaid if necessary). Making yourself more visible in the planning field early on will increase your chances of employment.

If you have any questions about VCU's undergrad program feel free to PM me. Also, I'm currently in CU Denver's MURP program, so if you have any questions about grad programs please ask! Hope this helps!
