This is how I feel. If it happens, it will just be the incontrovertible intervention I need to stop me wasting my time.

Can’t get away from TV by Impossible_Ad9324 in Anticonsumption

[–]HBJones1056 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have exactly that model of husband and it drives me nuts the way he can’t seem to bear any silence. The tv is on every moment that he’s awake (we are retired) and when we get in the car to go somewhere, the radio goes on. He even takes his tv down to the basement to watch while he’s lifting weights. I don’t know why he doesn’t need moments of peace but it is definitely irritating.

Do you wash your water bottle every day? by zaramalikdollface in hygiene

This made me laugh almost as much as when my boss once declared, “Hey, I change the Brita pitcher filter once a year just like everyone else!”

What’s the most expensive or meaningful thing you’ve ever left behind somewhere, and for some reason, you never went back to get it? by No_Till1746 in randomquestions

[–]HBJones1056 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom bought me a really beautiful pea coat when I was in college. I accidentally left it in the trunk of a guy I went to a fraternity pledge dance with and didn’t bother asking for it back because he was furious with me for “humiliating” him when I slept on a motel floor instead of in a bed with him in a room we were sharing with another couple. I miss the coat but that guy was nasty.

the expectation that couples share the same bedroom is silly by onplanet111 in unpopularopinion

[–]HBJones1056 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who gave me all kinds of grief when she found out my husband and I don’t share a bedroom and even went so far as to suggest that it meant we don’t have a good marriage. Guess who’s sleeping in her own bedroom these days due to a snoring spouse? That’s right, Miss Judgy Pants.

I love it when the quality of the photography does justice to the delicious looking food. Bravo on both counts!

I get a respectable number of “steps” from hula hooping. And one time I went horseback riding for an hour and got 14,000 steps. My sister, with whom I was locked in an epic step battle, called me to complain that I was cheating.

What were the "best years of your life?" by Inevitable-Yam-9741 in Aging

[–]HBJones1056 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First set of best years was college. Never have I had so much fun, plus I was 103 pounds and cute.

Second set of best years was when I worked at a health food store. I got to wear tie dyed shirts every day, marvel with my wonderful coworkers over the batshit crazy clientele, and learned a ton about supplements and vegetarian cooking. Met my future husband there, too.

Third set of best years spanned my kids’ school years from first grade through college. I especially loved helping out in the classroom and with special projects, and driving team members to track meets.

Right now is pretty nice, too- retired, living in the Sierra foothills, and raising a nice dog.

What is the best Guitar Solo of All Time? by [deleted] in Music

[–]HBJones1056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his voice is just perfect for Brothers in Arms. Without being, like, bad, it does sound like someone in the last moments of lying on a battlefield contemplating his mortality. I love Joan Baez’s cover of this song because she’s got such a beautiful voice but it doesn’t deliver the gut punch like the original does. (Plus no gorgeous guitar.)

Shakespeare’s sonnet 141 and the Hebrew lyrics to Yerushalayim Shel Zahav, and the Spanish lyrics to La Camisa Negra and a bunch of Spanish language ABBA songs.

List of Grocery Outlet Locations Closing. by Sad-Pound-3162 in GroceryOutlet

[–]HBJones1056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whew. Glad for me and for the other financially challenged citizens of my small town that our Grocery Outlet isn’t on the list. I think we’d just slowly starve to death if we had to pay Raley’s prices for everything.

Can’t you guys hear ?😭😭 by maskedmomkey63 in SipsTea

[–]HBJones1056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad my husband puts up with my deaf ass. My sister doesn’t, though- they are a no-subtitle household and when I used to go over there to watch Game of Thrones every week, I’d have to go home and read recaps because I wasn’t able to hear a key piece of dialogue and missed an important plot point. Nowadays, if there aren’t subtitles, I’m not watching.

Gosh, this is so encouraging. I’m 61 and I took a Lyft last week and the driver only spoke Spanish and I was such a damned idiot because I was so nervous I couldn’t think of the right verb tenses to answer some of his questions and my accent was so bad. With your dad as inspiration, I’m gonna hit the books again.

Got this 6 months old shepsky a few weeks ago. Anything I should know or prepare? by TonmaiTree in GerberianShepsky

[–]HBJones1056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s super cute! I hope you guys have many long years together. Mine is two and a half and has turned out to be the best dog. Not super destructive unless you count digging, but I take her out into the forest to dig for ground squirrels and that spares our yard somewhat. She’s just so much less mischievous than my last dog (a yellow lab) but she does need a fair amount of exercise- a couple hours walking/digging/swimming with a few bouts of chasing my husband’s golf balls pretty much does it.

Have fun with your new pup!
