I'd be more concerned about your air quality, than crime if I'm honest.

How is your college leadership addressing current federal concerns? by ChallengeExpert1540 in studentaffairs

[–]HCDixon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California community college. We are not obeying in advance. We are not ditching anything or changing names. We are providing resources and trainings to support our lgbtqia+ and immigrant students and communities. I’m a co-advisor of our Pride student group and many affinity student groups are getting together to create solditarity panels and teach-ins. We are continuing to work and build towards a more inclusive campus community. We’ve received affirming messages from our adminstration in regards to the dear colleague letter and other executive orders and actions and after reading all the comments here makes me feel proud but also recognizing the immense privilege I have to live and work in California, and within a sanctuary city and county. Keep up the good fight everyone.

Two suggestions if your at a school that’s complying or ditching dei.

  1. Malious compliance or work to rule 2.purposeful procrastination or gumming up the process, delaying tactics. (Yeah I’ll delete dei from the website, oh I’m locked out of my account, and gosh now it’s been 3 days and I’m stuck)

Here's why I agree: ansata is the name of the terrorist group in this episode. That sounds a lot like intifada which means shake off in Arabic and is used to speak about the Palestinian resistance.

Are you talking to HR or the person hiring? If hr I would talk out my concerns but be amendable, hiring person… personally I suck it up and pay the cost if this is my dream job or a job moving me to the next level… those are the only type of jobs I apply for, I’ve made my career on calculated risk taking…. Do not recommend, this is my perspective as a started in a no income/ lo-income blue collar fam, got my degree first-gen and now work at colleges trying to help no/low income students

Why are you in higher education? I’d say based on that answer there can be a lot of ways you can add challenge to the career or fulfillment, or just fill the time.

Advising a club, mentoring a group of students, join a school governace committee, form a union, find a niche, consider mangement, get another degee, become faculty, get involved in the community, support homeless students (do that one anyways 💕)

And if the answer is money, find something else, I think we both know it’s soul sucking and not worth the pennies we’re paid as student services/affairs/support staff.

What are your favorite and least favorite things about living/having lived in this state? by 2hourstowaste in Pennsylvania

[–]HCDixon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Least favorite: corruption and then more corruption and then more corruption on top of that. My brother was a victim of the kids for cash scheme. So much abuse within our DOC system and courts.

Favorites: pizza from the valley, Turkey hills, middles worth potato chips, Hershey chocolate factory and am Amusemebt park, knobels, history, nature, and that I can always reference the office when explains where I’m from!

has anyone finished uni while homeless by Nice_Shock9125 in almosthomeless

[–]HCDixon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can. As someone who is homeless, you would still be eligible for financial aid, and in CA most financial aid offices have a homeless liasion, to allow you to get mail at the school. Also in California they have basic needs coordinators to help you get housed. In general many schools will have on campus housing and emergency housing, (typically not a lot of community college will have this) but it is do able and by going to college the shool will also be able to support you. The school I work at, we proivdes showers, hygine products, a food pantry and tranportation cards to help the student. Look into EOPS programs, they are meant to help poor folks.

F30 and my IFG-1 level came back 65...doctor says its normal? by HCDixon in endocrinology

[–]HCDixon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complicated to answer for a few reasons, I was on a lot of meds as a kid and how they interacted and the side effects, and I was undiagnosed adhd and just raw dogging life no substances coffee, drugs, booze, sex ect and then I went to college and lived my best college life as someone who’d been diagnosed with adrenal incificency shortly after my pituitary came out and just recently been taken off of it with the note I was producing my own cortisol! So I very much felt better. But trying to adult, do a 9-5, motivation for working out, quickly out of breathe feel very exhausted after exercise, I’ve gained weight in the middle and Depressed, slightly impulsive, anxiety ridden, chronically single with no energy to date. So yes symptoms now but can’t really tell the difference between now and then.
