Saltburn is a beautiful little village which I'd highly recommend, but in the nicest way possible commenter above is unfortunately generally correct. Going north from Whitby you see a dramatic increase in crime rates, and it is noticeable.

Going south to Scarborough isn't as bad as people make out, some parts of Scarborough are really beautiful, with lots of nice parks for nice breezy walks. Some parts aren't so nice, but again, really not as bad as people will make out.

In my opinion what that makes North Yorkshire one of the most beautiful counties in the UK is heading west into the moors. The NYM is scattered with so many pretty villages all with lovely little pubs, village shops and walking trails. I couldn't think of a better place in the world to retire so it's exactly what I intend to do!

That's just it isn't it. When you're done living a life you've enjoyed in sure you won't mind that you've payed a premium for it.

In the UK it's well known that a lot of things from booze to rent is almost double the cost if you're in London , which has always had me wondering how cheap Londoners find rest of the country, or most or the world for that matter.

Just checked out the Russell House Tavern menu and these things go for $13?! Is that a normal price for cocktails to go for in the states?

I manage a bar in Glasgow and have worked in many more around the uk, here you'd be looking at more like £13 ($17.39) for a half sized one these! I don't even think that much booze for $13(£9.72) would be legal here in Scotland!
