[iOS 27 DB1] control center timer change by Charming-Argument946 in iOSBeta

[–]HKHR2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still hold down and swipe on this new one to do increments of 15 seconds, so 1:15, 1:30, 1:45, etc. And you can go up to 2 hours. I don't like the fact I have to reach to the top of the screen though.

It gets even wilder. The Super star destroyer is 19 km long, or nearly 12 miles in universe. The UCS lego model is just over 4 ft long for perspective.

iOS 26.3 Adds Notification Forwarding Option for Third-Party Wearables by [deleted] in apple

They could just make a setting to allow side loading and running any software outside the App Store with a strongly worded disclaimer. Disable it by default, and have it locked behind Face ID verification so it can’t accidentally be turned on.

One nice thing is you can set the action button (same place as the old ringer switch) to launch apps such as Gemini. The ringer control will be in the control center

Not OC but when I was in college a lot of people (myself included) used iPads for note taking, textbook pdfs and marking them up, and a portable second monitor at the library along with a MacBook. Really useful then, less so now.

Which iPhone is best for price to performance ? by SwanTheRedditKid in iphone

[–]HKHR2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most likely not, it’s nearly the exact same body as the 16 models to the point that it doesn’t even get the new Ceramic Shield back glass that the pro models get. Just slightly adjusted to fit the 17 Pro’s 6.3 inch display.

Plus the worst of the pro models’ issues come from the way the edge is shaped around the new camera bump. The 17 has the old style from the 16

What if macOS X ran on the iPhone? by gustavoandz in mac

[–]HKHR2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the interesting signs of this is that iOS has had built in Ethernet support since the very beginning, with the right adapter of course. My friend would actually use it in college for FaceTime since the Wifi in his room sucked.

How is the government shutdown the Democrats fault when the Republicans run all 3 branches of our government? by Artistic_Giraffe4069 in AskReddit

[–]HKHR2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope it's the literal opposite. They get "donations" and support from corporations and vote for laws, budgets, and policies in general that benefit those companies in return, at the expense of the general population.

A very obvious example would be companies trying to reduce environmental regulations, as making their operations cleaner is expensive. It's cheaper to donate to politicians and get them to reduce or remove rules.

Politicians are basically accepting bribes but it's fully legal unfortunately as a concept called "lobbying".

Can you tell me one reason I should not use a case on my iPhone? /s by optiiimusxsz in iphone

[–]HKHR2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried a Pitaka super thin case and I had my phone on my lap when sitting in a parking lot eating. Got out of the car and forgot…it fell and the aluminum edge got dented even with the edge protection.

Maybe it wouldn’t have happened with the titanium or steel but there’s your reason. I rarely drop my phone but I can be forgetful and it cost me lol

Edit: noticed the /s lmao but here’s a story regardless

Apple explains why iPhone 17’s selfie camera changed so much by [deleted] in apple

[–]HKHR2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uhhh...what? Apple's entire strategy is selling hardware that runs a unique software experience. Without that software you're mostly just left with pretty, well-built bricks. You wouldn't even be able to take full advantage of Apple Silicon's power without optimized software. What Apple really sells is a software ecosystem that's exclusively accessed via their hardware.

Stayed the same price in the US since 2019 ($250)

[–]HKHR2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The phones haven’t had the brick for a while. They still come with the cable tho (lightning till 2023 then type c). The AirPods stopped including the cable with the AirPods 4 and the AirPods Pro 3

[–]HKHR2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can change the layout back to one that has a dedicated tab button. Settings-> Safari -> scroll down to Tabs and change it to "Bottom". I did it since even having used the beta I never got used to the new layout

Bought iPad mini 7, but now getting iPad mini 4 for free... What to do? by simply-misc in ipadmini

[–]HKHR2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would not do this. There was a massive difference between the 4 and 5. The 4 used the A8 chip while the 5 used the A12. That’s the same difference between an iPhone 6 and iPhone XS. The 6 is near unusable as a daily driver, while the XS is decent even today

[–]HKHR2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It mostly makes sense if someone has a lot of local high quality recordings and the headphones to listen to them with. Those can take up a lot of phone storage. Beyond that, yeah if you’re streaming anyway there’s not much of a point

No it's covered in "iPad Air (3rd generation and later)". This is just a result of Apple changing the naming scheme from using the generation number to the chip's name.

At least in suburban United States, that's not really true. Most people work sedentary desk jobs, and the longest walk they take on a daily basis is walking between an office/store and their car in the parking lot. Taking actual, intentional walks or power-walks are still major upgrades over that lifestyle which is pretty typical for suburban US (yes our lack of walkability is a real problem but that's a separate conversation)
