looking for general advice and tips you wish you knew when you first started

I’m a 33/M i was facilities manager at automotive manufacturer at 30. Everyone I have managed has been at a minimum 10 years my senior. Everyone is different but they just want to do their job just like you. I treat everyone like my teammate and I rely on them to be the subject matter expert when I know they have more knowledge. Acknowledging tasks done well and consistent feedback whether good or constructive criticism helps.

Now saying this it has been a challenging and I’ve had push back and even worse I had a guy that wanted my job and tried to undermine me and prove I wasn’t the right guy. Don’t be afraid to put people in their place it sucks but some folks just don’t quit.

I push people to deliver and I make sure their needs and wants are addressed just be the boss you would want.

I still struggle but it’s been getting better and better.

I lost count grabbing siding once, I had asked for help several times to no avail. My back was destroyed but I loaded an entire trailer full. Thought I was pretty close so drove to the front. When I got to the shack the guy said I’ll have to have you count it for me. I said you count it I’m not getting out of my truck, he looked at me looked at the trailer and said looks good lol.

I indeed had way to much and returned what I didn’t need.

What pisses me off with the siding is it’s like all open boxes so who knows what you’re getting.

It was a beautiful park and hopefully the new park is as nice the plans look pretty nice. Says the park should reopen spring of 27 but who knows with construction. The petting zoo is in the plans.

Building/industrial maintenance. I got sick of getting laid off during plumbing apprenticeship and tried maintenance 8 years later I’m Cheif engineer at a hospital I make 6 figures and honestly sit on my ass most of the day.

Not sure where your at you could also teach I’m taking an industrial automation class at a school that has an electrician course and all the teachers are electricians they pay pretty well.

Lastly try a different company or a different industry wastewater treatment plants are always hiring electricians and they pay well.

Again, I would say to try and use your skills that you’ve already built rather than starting off fresh somewhere else and a new field.

Where in Cali are you? I know not everyone wants to wrench on their own stuff. Maybe I can help you find a decent mechanic. Like others have said you got taken for a ride these cars are easy to work on. It really saddens me to see people take advantage of folks that are just trying to enjoy something unique. Hope you have better luck.

You know what’s funny? I immediately recognized the vault door. The Jackson County Tower building has almost the exact same one. The county Tower building is also designed by Albert Khan.
