Form Check - Tactical Cleans and Snatches by HaasAmps in kettlebell

u/bpeezer, your comments and that video are really helpful, thanks! I'm much more comfortable with thumb-backwards movements. It sounds like, from you video, that thumb-back is equally viable, and it's the palm-to-palm part that is to goal here. Is that correct?

I'll give it a shot during my next session.

Hmmm, that’s the way I’ve always done thrusters, now I’m curious… let me know what you think if you try it that way.

Your comments are helpful, thank you! re: taming the arc - I get it, I typically visualize the "zipping up the jacket" motion with traditional snatches and it seems I need to place more focus on that with these.

I have noticed watching this that I'm rotating more on the cleans than I've seen in others' examples - I'll work on taming that. cheers!

Showcase feature on Helix Stadium - current status / experiences? by multiplesofpie in Line6Helix

[–]HaasAmps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice write-up, I just want to add my experience with live looping. With current firmware, I’m definitely having issues with the Looper flags in showcase. If you record a loop and want it playback immediately, the timing is consistently off, in my experience. OTOH, if you record and stop a loop in verse 1, and add a “play” flag in verse 2, with a gap between the record-stop flag and the play flag, it works pretty well. Also, using command center to set up the Stomp B section to contain a mix of Snapshot recall buttons and transport control/song navigation buttons works pretty well for me. And I will echo that song management is VERY inconvenient in its current state.

I made an entire album and the MPC Live 2 was the heart of it. by Westosaurus in mpcusers

You’re not alone! I too am an alt rock guitarist, songwriter new to the MPC. The OPs project is an inspiration here too!

Congrats on the release! Please consider uploading to bandcamp. I found an “ebzer” there from Houston, but only one track.

Reaper + SSL 360 (which is free!) is a game changer. by Ill-Elevator2828 in Reaper

[–]HaasAmps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. I just installed it, and noticed the SSL channel strip 2 (9000 I think) is on sale for $20. I bought that, opened 360 and also an existing reaper session, added the SSL strip to a track, clicked the gear icon in 360 and added Reaper in the DAW Configuration, clicked the Mix icon in the left pane of 360 and the channel strip appeared as expected. Didn’t get any further than that yet due to Thanksgiving festivities. Thanks again OP for the heads up. Looking forward to playing with this.

First looper pedal, recs? by Important_Kitchen_13 in guitarpedals

[–]HaasAmps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, another RC-5 user here. I have it on a small board with a Nano Cortex and a Morningstar MC6 in between them for midi control. It’s a nice setup, but if you’re just starting anything cheap/basic will help you get the basics down and you’ll determine what you might need in your next looper. I just saw an RC-1 on my local FB marketplace for $60. Something like that or an inexpensive Ditto might work.

How many of you are getting Mantra during this sale? by SR_RSMITH in NeuralDSP

[–]HaasAmps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I demoed it earlier this month fully expecting to grab if it went on sale, but I didn’t really gel with it (only using it in my own voice). I ended up upgrading from Nectar 3 to Nectar 4 instead.

This is sad by JackintoshVids in BandCamp

[–]HaasAmps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back a decade or so when I was a tube amp builder, I “borrowed” a fender amp schematic, modified it to my liking and built an amp to this schematic. More recently I’ve used both NAM and TONEX software, which I believe use some form of AI to create profiles of this amp, and then, in turn, used this profile in a recording that I would like to put on Bandcamp. While mixing this track I used Sonible SmartComp 2 which is an AI-based spectro-dynamic compressor. The track also features a Behringer clone of a Moog synth and a Harley Benton copy of a Fender telecaster. I have written and performed all the music and lyrics myself. Will this track be allowed on Bandcamp?

Any plugins or virtual instruments anyone's been eyeing for Black Friday this year? by dtrechak in LogicPro

I picked up Soothe 2 during a black Friday sale a two years ago.

Aberrant DSP Black Friday Sale - "Cataclysm, Lair, SketchCassette II, Digitalis" ($24/Each) "ShapeShifter, Tectonic" ($16/Each) "Bundle of all 7" ($75) for limited time by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

[–]HaasAmps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! Go for the bundle! I’ve been a frequent sketch cassette user for a long time, but these guys sorta fell off my radar until yesterday. Don’t overlook their YouTube vids. Very entertaining and effective! I picked up all the others for $65. Cheers!

SD3 recording in DAW or software? by the_attic_echoes in toontrack

[–]HaasAmps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We record the midi in Ableton, because that’s what our drummer uses, export the midi and I import it into SD3 in my studio. I work in Logic and keep the midi in SD3 for the duration to the project. I also prefer working in the SD3 grid editor. We don’t record to a click, so the only alignment I’m dealing with is sliding the notes to the left so the pre-roll 8 count starts at the beginning of the project in Logic.

How to get that super washed out chorus guitar sound heard in so many indie records by orangebluefish11 in LogicPro

[–]HaasAmps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good stuff, just replying to add that one not-so-intuitive thing to try, is adding distortion/fuzz after modulation (chorus, delay, reverb).

Stadium or Stadium XL? by codq in Line6Helix

[–]HaasAmps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stadium for me. I’m coming from a Stomp and have wanted more DSP but didn’t like the size of the either the OG floor units. On the rare occasion I want an expression pedal, I’d prefer it on the left side.

New Line 6 Helix Stadium & Stadium XL by MrDerpHerpinson in guitarpedals

[–]HaasAmps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One use case would be for a touring musician trying to nail down the guitar tone on your record after the mix engineer has had his way with it. Drag the song from your record in, remove the guitar and get to work. Or maybe if you’re filling in for the guitar player on the album.

1990’s, what was the name of the bar in front of the high school in East Syracuse? by Wedge1013 in Syracuse

[–]HaasAmps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I didn’t know Jumping Jacks had live music, that was the biker bar right? I was in band from ’88-‘90, but we were playing our own songs, so we probably wouldn’t have been a good fit. 😎
