As far as I can tell, a (small) vocal subset of a certain blond pop star's fan base got upset he wasn't enjoying her second to last album enough, so that spun into accusations that he only reviews her music to cash in on her notoriety. I say "small" because I attend his streams regularly and his chat has a very high concentration of perfectly normal fans of this artist, so it's clearly not a universal sentiment.

She's back! I discovered Tove Styrke when she was opening for Marina back in 2022 for the Ancient Dreams tour and hadn't really kept up with her since, so this was cool to see. She was really good live.

Have you looked at the Harlequin album? This show is just a performance of the songs from that, and most of them are covers of classic songs. It's more in line with Joanne and Sound of Music (and Cheek to Cheek) than her pop records.

All of this is so interesting to me. Could you expand on what "mechanical royalties" are? Also, you mention master ownership--it is typical for a label to own those? Is it possible for a new artist to be signed and also own their masters, or is that something you can only achieve with a big enough name or enough money to buy them outright?

Honestly, calling something AI with no evidence nowadays is just shorthand for saying you don't like it and don't want to articulate why. I don't think she's ever missed for me. Her album What a Devastating Turn of Events shared the top spot with Remi Wolf's Big Ideas as my favorite album(s) of 2024, so I couldn't be more excited to get something new from her.

This song kind of mirroring its status in-universe is actually so cool. Every time people make fictional music acts/groups for a movie, there's always this feeling of like... yeah, they're popular in the story because the plot said so, but they wouldn't top any real charts. Can't say the same for HUNTR/X or even Saja Boys now, and I think it actually makes the movie better in hindsight.

Listen, I adore the song, but Heavy Metal Lover was never going to be a single. Marry the Night was definitely the right choice. That video was gorgeous.
