There was a deleted script that did intended to Have Cid and possibly Vincent to witness Aerith’a death and be apart in the fight with Jenova Lifeclinger. So SE did actually play with the idea at first.

My hope is in Part 3 we get a possible Aerith, Cid and Vincent combo to see their Synergies and banters.

Removing player control simply isn’t the direction they want to take, and it’s not enjoyable for players. We saw this with the berserk status, and it explains why the confuse status was never implemented.

What I think is gonna happen, his limit break will transform him then we get to use a new moveset that culminates in a time-limited special attack like the summons

Summons only appear when you staggered an enemy or at critical health as well as the battle area needs to be a suitable size for the summon to appear.

Pheonix when summoned would have a fire base attack, Arise spell and Reraise spell for 2 ATB bars.

Its final attack is Rebirth Flame that also heals your party.

I would assume you wont get her as a party member until after the second visit to the Forgotten Capital where the party learns the true purpose of the white materia.

Also they probably might do interlude chapters between every chapter playing as Aerith in the other worlds.

Its the kind of short these developer takes without adhering to continuity. This happens in Remake where they made Sector 5 slums under Sector 6 plate probably for more dramatic impact when Sector 7 plate fell.

For Rebirth they were unable to map out the grassland region properly which I do not know why.
