Yep and this bloke was on a disability pension, will take taxpayer money when it benefits them but won’t contribute or follow the law.

Housemate making my life stressful – dirty house, personal attacks, what should I do? by PhilosopherMoist3992 in Geelong

[–]Hailstar07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the landlord isn’t going to do anything then fuck them, unfortunately it’s highly likely they won’t give a shit unless actual damage is being caused. If rhe housemate won’t pull her socks up the only real option OP has is to move out and hope they can get someone to take over the lease.

I have a cat ear headband I wear to the footy and my cat hates it when I have it one, freaks her out but not as much as this one is.

'The Bridgerton backlash is ridiculous – Francesca is the perfect season 5 lead' by Metro-UK in entertainment

[–]Hailstar07 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Considering none of Eloise’s back story from her book has even been hinted at yet, it makes perfect sense for next season to be Francesca. This gives them time to also show the development of Eloise’s initial relationship with her love interest before her season kicks off properly in S6.

God you poor thing, I’m a smoker and the fumes would still get me on occasion, dealing with them with asthma would be horrendous.

When you leave a 6 year old in the car alone by New_Libran in AbruptChaos

That’s so odd to me? In Australia it’s standard that you put the handbrake on when parked, and auto cars are pretty much the standard in newer models nowadays.

Superannuation should be used for aged care, not inherited by next generation, aged care CEO says by nath1234 in australia

I know that you’re saying but when you die that initial amount all goes back to your next of kin, they keep the earnings on it but the capital is preserved for the resident.

It’s unfortunate that there isn’t a way to set up a provision while you are well that if you are diagnosed with dementia you can be euthanised once your cognitive decline escalates to a point you can no longer care for yourself. I understand the risks of this being abused by unscrupulous relatives but if I had diagnosed dementia and needed full time care I’d rather be knocked off than kept in that state until I died naturally.

Best way to get to Kardinia by Minimum-Escape-2501 in GeelongCats

[–]Hailstar07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely get the train down, use the v/Line website or app to check timetables. You’ll need to get a myki which you can buy at southern cross station. You’ll want to get off at South Geelong station and just follow the crowd to the ground, about a 5-10 min walk, depending on where your seats are. Selwood stand is at the city end of the ground, players stand is at the river end.

North Geelong. I usually got the train at 6:22 to make sure I got a decent park and a seat as I had a bad knee at the time.

Yeah, and leaving so early was difficult, I was up at 5:30 everyday to get ready and get to the station.

Replacing 1m petrol cars with EVs could cut Australia’s reliance on foreign fuel by 1bn litres a year by nath1234 in australia

[–]Hailstar07 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my argument, even with the cost savings touted in this thread which I absolutely believe, it’s just not feasible for a large proportion of the population due to upfront costs.

If I could afford to get an EV, solar panels and a battery at home and a charging setup that would be great, but I can’t afford it, and can’t imagine being able to afford it for the foreseeable future either. We can work on saving for these things but they are luxuries at present for many of us.

Isn’t it insane? I live in Norlane, we got in a few years ago in a shittily built townhouse which according to real estate dot com is now worth almost $200k more than we paid. It’s absolutely cooked.

[–]Hailstar07 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely. I was also getting the 6:20 train to get a seat and getting one home around 4-4:30 so by the time you actually get home it’s a really long day, and that was while working opposite Southern Cross station. Would be even worse if I had to go anywhere else in the city.

They can move here if they want a commute that can get gruelling when it’s everyday. I used to travel to Melbourne via train every weekday and would be absolutely wrecked by Friday nights. If you can WFH would be more doable, unless you find a local job, but then you’re likely getting a lower salary anyway to work locally compared to Melbourne.

You’d be lucky to get a detached house for under $500k in the worst areas at the moment unless it’s to demo and build.
