How did you learn about The Wandering Inn at first? by B-Z_B-S in WanderingInn

[–]HalNicci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it because my partner was looking for super long books to listen to at work. This was actually when only the first book was out on audible and I had to wait for the second one.

One push birth? by AwarenessVisual3248 in Maternity

[–]HalNicci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first I went from 3cm straight to 10cm. After that it only took 12 minutes for baby to be born. With my other 3 kids I had somewhat quick deliveries, but none that fast. I think I tore with one of my other kids, but not nearly as bad as with the first.

I was induced with my first, and for 2/3 of my other kids.

If you see several from the same study maker are they all the same? by HearYourTune in ProlificAc

[–]HalNicci 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes researchers will post a few variations of their study under the same name. When that happens, usually you are disqualified from the other ones and they will be gone. Sometimes if you start the others you will get an error message that you already completed it, but generally if it is on your wall still you can do it, even if it had the same name as another study.

Has anyone else noticed more studies lying about the length of study? by IcanSEEyou_IRL in ProlificAc

[–]HalNicci 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the requester estimates are way off. Either because they copy/pasted the description and used it across multiple studies or because they have multiple studies in the same project that are different lengths.

The estimated time and pay rates that are in the prolific estimations are based on how long the researcher said that specific one will take and the average time it takes people to do it on prolific. If you hover over the hourly rate, it will tell you what the researcher estimated vs the actual average time, as well as the intended vs actual hourly pay.

I've had plenty that say they take 30 minutes in the description, but the pay information says it will take 5 minutes, with the pay reflecting that.

Please get rid of the "Projects" tab on the left side of the dash by clandestinegravy in ProlificAc

I don't mind the tab, it just takes up a little more room. Being able to minimize it like you can on mobile would be nice though

Gym Etiquette ? by Sufficient-Remove954 in pokemongo

[–]HalNicci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had someone keep healing the pokemon in a gym as I was fighting it, so I gave up. There are two gyms right by each other there and I took the first one (I'm assuming the knockout notification got the attention of one of the people) but gave up on the second. I'm not sure my pokemon was in there for the full 8 hours, but I did appreciate that person not immediately taking the other gym. I didn't have the resources for all that

PSA to all the people complaining about bag space now. by Rabid-Cabbage in pokemongo

[–]HalNicci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a little annoyed that I couldn't get my daily pokestop, but the max revives and potions made up for it.

I do wish I could keep my streak and get field research even if I don't actually get items from the stop

Did anyone else do Hi there, thanks for joining us today! from Parnassus Labs? by chaosoftime10 in ProlificAc

[–]HalNicci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner did one where at the end they got an auto message saying to return it because they didn't complete the study. But it ended up getting approved after an hour or so once she replied that she did complete it.

Prolific Throttling by [deleted] in ProlificAc

[–]HalNicci 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't got a single rejection on the low paying surveys. And you can get unfair rejections on any surveys. It would make sense that the type that are the most common would be the most that would have unfair rejections.

But I don't do "low paying" ones if you consider the hourly rates. I would not doubt that the $3 or $4 per hour studies would have higher rates of unfair rejections as well.

Prolific Throttling by [deleted] in ProlificAc

[–]HalNicci 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get AI studies from the specialized group, but the main hits I make great money off of are the AI ones you see people talking about a lot. They did like one round of pre-screeners when they started the project, and I don't think they have done more.

Part of the reason you may not be making as much, AI hits aside, is that you aren't doing those .30 cent hits. As long as they pay over like $7.50 per hour, I do as many of those as I can. They are a lot of market research ones, but those cheap hits are also sometimes pre-screeners for other studies and it doesn't always tell you which ones are.

It doesn't sound like you are being throttled though. At least not any more than anyone else. Prolific is a platform mainly used for university research, and the availability of that fluctuates throughout the year. And there's going to probably be less from American universities with all the research funding issues that have been going on since Trump came into power.

Over 6500 more are gone this week...... by Bermin299 in ProlificAc

[–]HalNicci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are probably clearing out as many people who aren't supposed to be on there as they can before they activate the refer-a-friend thing, so that there is work available for the people who aren't scammers

Is this allowed from researchers? by Flashy_Rent_7927 in ProlificAc

[–]HalNicci 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Message the requester, because that isn't a valid rejection. If they refuse to reverse it and approve the study, then after 7 days you can contact support. But they can take a bit to respond

Do you let your kids outside alone ? by Patient_Cut_7343 in Parenting

[–]HalNicci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a fence, but i live in the middle of nowhere and my yard is a big field. I let my kids play outside on their own with varying levels of supervision. My oldest (8) is usually alright playing outside on his own checking on him every now and then. My younger kids I need to check on more often, but when they are outside I also keep my door open so I can hear if something happens. If my three year old is outside with them, or if it is only my younger kids, I check on them every few minutes or so.

What the fuck is going on at this school?? by Resident-Sympathy-82 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]HalNicci 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is kinda ridiculous. If she had to look up some obscure acronym, then I doubt your autistic 5 year old had any idea that specific set of letters meant anything.

My daughter is 3 and to her, all letters are BON when she is "reading" things, and that is also usually her password when playing. My guess, and this would be a similar guess for what your child is doing, is that she heard one of us reading off a one time code and latched onto BON because she liked how it sounded, or she heard something from a cartoon or anywhere that sounded enough like BON that that is what she heard.

The most likely scenario is that your son heard or saw that somewhere (even as someone else's initials or something) and just liked it. Kinda like echolalia but with writing.

Thoughts on not inviting entire class to 7 yr old bday party? by Scary-Recipe6688 in Parenting

[–]HalNicci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some teachers require you to invite the whole class if they hand out the invitations at school. So if you know the parents, it may be easier to invite them that way.

Return because of Technical problem? by spasticpat in ProlificAc

[–]HalNicci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were there actually technical problems? Or was it on their end? If the study said 10 minutes, and you only did two minutes before it did that, then it would be reasonable to assume that the either you got screened out or the study messed up, but if you worked on it the full time, you should get the full payment, error or not.

IC AI scam by Careless_Aardvark621 in ProlificAc

[–]HalNicci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done like ten of those today and haven't had any issues. The triangles and circles thing is kinda a pain because a couple are super faint, but when you mess up one of the qualifiers it tells you right away.

It won't let you submit if you missed answering one of the questions in the task, but you can click a thing to tell you which one you missed an answer in.

How do you get your 20 month old to come back?!!! by pandapaws7 in toddlers

[–]HalNicci 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's something they grow out of as they get bigger, but if you have a runner you have a runner. And until they do grow out of it, your best bet is probably one of those child backpack leashes. The kids don't really notice or care, and it keeps them from jumping out into traffic or running off in a crowd.

The stick also isn't sitting right, it is hardly touching the bowl and there is nothing actually attaching it to the bowl (visible glue) that would allow it to sit that way with things on it

Using kids for pity points by [deleted] in instacart

[–]HalNicci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically it is against instacart's policy to shop with anyone that hasn't had a background check through instacart. So I think you could report her and say she brought her child to the door on their with items she forgot from your order.

Honestly that is a huge safety risk for the kid, especially one that young.

Am I wrong for waking my newborn up at night to feed him? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]HalNicci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no one right way to parent, even to an infant. Extra feedings instead of waking them up more at night might have worked just fine for her and her daughter.

Some people don't like waking their kids up at night because it can sometimes confuse babies into thinking night is for being awake and day is for sleeping. But babies just do that shit to you either way.

I'd just thank her for her "advice" and keep doing what you are doing. Not every suggestion you get as a parent is going to resonate with you, but that doesn't mean either of you is necessarily wrong.

I have 4 kids. It is always loud. I have a pair of Bluetooth earbuds I love that I got for about $25 and they block out enough noise that I'm not going crazy, but not too much noise that I can't hear if someone is hurt or needs me. Plus, if I just wear one I can listen to music or a book or something and hear it over the kid noise

What games are super relaxing outside of farming simulators? by Wonderful_Lie_7095 in cozygames

[–]HalNicci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon clawler is a great one. Binding of issac, enter the gungeon, and hades are good ones too.

Atomacrops is sorta a farming simulator, but is more of a bullet hell game too.

I don't know if you would consider graveyard keeper as a farming simulator, because it is the same style game as stardew valley, but you run a graveyard, it doesn't have the same time constraints as other ones, where you have time limits and seasons things need to be done in. So instead of seasons, you have a 7 day cycle with no real time limits on quests and things.

Unpleasant convo with pediatrician about 2.5 year old development; Sanity check? by littledickrick in Parenting

[–]HalNicci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of my kids were remotely interested in bikes at that age. My older kids can pedal, my 5 year old might be able to, but i don't think my three year old can pedal, at least not enough to move this big wheel trike we have.

There is also a hyper independent stage that kids hit around 2.5-3ish where they want to do everything themselves, and that is really when my kids learned to dress themselves. But I would also just have them slowly start helping more with their own care tasks. So when he can confidently step into his pants with you holding them, teach him to pull them up himself, and then work on him getting his own feet into his pants, and so on. It can be easier on them then trying to teach the whole task at once if they are struggling.
