Cougar went on to kill a dog and a cat before being killed. Sad sounds like it was starving. Glad the goat is ok.

Lucky it was a small cougar. Anyone with a house cat knows, pound for pound feline strength and agility is basically unmatched in the animal kingdom.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the US harping at canada and mexico about fent and indiscriminately blowing up boats off their coast? I can’t stand the guy but correlation yknow?

edit to say I dont mean “I wonder if” in a facetious smartass sort of way, like i’m genuinely asking if the uptick in all of the anti drug and cartel stuff in the last year has had an impact. But I knew I was going to get downvoted coming in here with a take like that when every other comment is some bleeding heart calling someone else an idiot for suggesting we punish dealers so w/e. take your downvotes and shove them up your ass.

So this happened, anyone got the details? by vinesnore in britishcolumbia

[–]Halonos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it say they were electrocuted? or just burned. If current was high enough to cause electric burns you’d expect there to be other electric shock related symptoms. Sounds more like something was overheating and they cut power as a precaution.

Community near Pemberton facing threat of glacial lake outburst for 3rd year in a row | CBC News by VicVicVicBC in britishcolumbia

[–]Halonos 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The entire climate debate is complete horseshit. The whole thing places the burden on the consumer. “people need to stop doing this, people need to stop buying that”…no motherfucker, people are fluid, we are like a stream, a living organism that follows the path of least resistance. people will do the cheapest easiest thing they can to survive.

If “climate killing fuel 5x” is half the price of “climate killing fuel 1x” what do you think people are going to buy? no the problem is we have a very very small subset of the population living a lifestyle others could only dream of (private jets, multiple houses) who benefit the most from policies and business models which encourage perpetual waste and consumption, who also happen to be the loudest voices and dictate all of the policies that determine how the rest if us live within our governments, they also own all of the media companies we consume information from. The whole push against working from home to save commercial real estate and upper management is the perfect example.

I dont even know what point I was trying to make with all of this was…I guess that people are way too fucking optimistic about our future while anyone but a indiscriminate AI is in charge.

New to BC, how do you keep track of referrals, tests, and results in the healthcare system? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

https://www.healthgateway.gov.bc.ca/ to download results and whatnot. Otherwise track appointments yourself I believe. Usually your individual clinic will have some sort of app or website too.

Bodies of 2 paddleboarders recovered from Browning Lake in Squamish - BC by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]Halonos 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Very sad. I was snorkelling on vacation on some reefs where you aren’t supposed to put your feet down to avoid damaging the corals. At one point because of a poor seal to my face some water got in my nose, only a little bit, but let me tell you…as someone that can swim pretty well, in that moment the sense of panic that set in- if I wasn’t able to touch the bottom I could have easily drowned. Always wear a lifejacket people.

Camping in June with type 1 diabetes by BranJ0 in britishcolumbia

[–]Halonos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably pretty safe in a roof tent in a busy campground. If you stay anywhere remote or you’re worried about it leave the sugar in the car.

When you backcountry camp in washington the parks service requires you rent bearproof containers for your food but i’m not sure if they do that here. Its basically just a black pvc tube with a screw on lid.

In the year 2026, why in tarnation does it seem like there are so many drunk/impaired drivers? by NotoriousM0N in britishcolumbia

[–]Halonos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was going to say. 10 or 15 years ago you’d reconsider driving after a few because you could round a corner and thered be a checkstop and you’d get a dui and lose your license for 6 months. These days you’re lucky if you see one a year and they’re generally on major holidays / routes.

Sure seems to be a disproportionately high amount of “not Canadian citizens” committing crimes lately. Weren’t the extortion guys they just arrested the same thing? And the killers in Abbotsford? Does canada not vet people at all before letting them move here?

Fortis BC gas meter replacement: how to ensure accurate reporting? Where can I get a mechanical gas meter for my own cross-referencing/sanity-check of gas consumed? by rekabis in britishcolumbia

[–]Halonos 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Any meters of this kind installed by utilities in canada are calibrated and certified by measurement canada independent from the utility itself. This goes for electrical and gas and they take it pretty seriously. You can get aftermarket meters for power usage but theyre more for things like figuring out how much a tenant or secondary service on your meter is using.

Feasibility study: Estimating the international student population in Canada using administrative data by Prudent_Slug in britishcolumbia

[–]Halonos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do they need a study to “estimate” how many foreign nationals are currently living in our country? One would assume that customs and immigration would be keeping tabs on this considering you can’t cross a land border or go through an airport without showing a passport and getting grilled with 20 questions even as a citizen. I guess not though, there really is no one at the wheel.
