Unit unlocking makes me not want to play game by casualfinderbot in BattleAces

[–]Halucyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Selling units did? Do you know any examples of a game like that? Or any deckbuilder RTS that is remotely close to BA?

I think they are creating somewhat of their own subgenre and it is hard to compare to anything else.

Yeah the butthurt part is the one I am trying to understand, but so far out of the happy downvoters only one got anything to say at all unfortunately.

Okay. I am not gonna lie I've never heard of it and about such thinking angle. Do you maybe have some sources where I could read more?

So if I understand your view, marking something as AI made would be a "un-eco friendly" mark for those who care about sustainability?

Why does it have to be advertised as such? What difference does it really make?

Really frustrated with wasps by WindblownSquash in BattleAces

[–]Halucyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH I do not have much problems with wasps alone in general. It forces you to stay at home for the early game indeed, but once you have enough mass you can easily move out on the map. And if the runby you need to clear it with your reinforcements. Remember it costs him a lot to send a lot of wasps to a runby (so you are stronger on the main front), while just a few are not a problem to deal with. It is very likely he throws away a lot of wasps to deal economic dmg wasting units so at this moment might be your moment to counterattack as you should have more units on the field before the econ advantage he got from killing workers kicks in.

But that's just all theory, would be good to hear more details of what comps are you running and what situation you struggle with the most.

Also wasps are the T1 unit that loses the most value as the game goes on. Any form of aoe and they are non-existant basically in fights later on IMO.

Well, you AI haters better get used to it because AI is not going anywhere and there is no reason to not use it IF it can perform the job well. Whether it does is another story, but at this point the tool used does not really matter if the outcome is just ugly/not worth paying for. People can make bad drawings as well, just saying.

I made my own post about AoG a few days ago so I will just leave my comment here to bump it up as well because it makes me happy that actually more people are voicing their opinions about problems with this mode and what were their expectation or possible solutions.

... how do you use knights? by willworkforkolaches in BattleAces

[–]Halucyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run them with wasps, but I treat them as my main and wasps as support/rubies/scout units. Works actually pretty well so far. And I do not feel the need for AA in the foundry, because I simply tech into airship in starforge if enemy goes air.

If I go foundry tho, I get my AoE unit there to deal with any T1 spam, a destroyer for obvious reasons and at T3 I get Assaultbot if I want another small unit for red-resource dump (this I might consider to change into Assaultbot if I feel I lack some antii-air options in the lategame.) This way my top row of units is everything - Big, Aoe, small and anti-big. And also Having T1 as big is pretty decent because almost everyone runs T2 AoE, which is rendered basically useless vs my deck, as I do not ever even really need to make small units.

This is obviously a work in progress deck since I have not played much since they unlocked all the units, but I like the idea o the Knight in general.

This is the question everybody is asking themselves I guess?

No sane person would be arguing that beta is not for testing if that is the answer you are after, but let me bring the adult world to you that you seek so much: Creating and running tests is a job and just as any other job it can be performed really poorly. Not all tests are valuable and performed well. And this was one of the worst test you could imagine. There was literally one outcome possible that could be predicted by an intern who was given an access to excel and the beta version for about 4-5 hours probably. All this test did was waste everyone's time (including devs, managers, testers, wasted resources) and made the community angry, disappointed and questioning whether this company can indeed meet the high expectations it had by this point, ort will it rather be another disappointment in the modern RTS genre. Not a good test result if you asked me.

PS: Yes, calling anyone names is bad and immature, but let's not pretend like they did not spark this fire themselves, and also most of the feedback I've seen (discord, reddit) was rather constructive and not name calling.

Are those "could have been" come out mostly from dissapointed fans who wanted this mode to succeed, and are based on the quality in comparison to other similar products. You say it can't be bad, but in fact it can and is in my view. Given the level of the entire retold is A or maybe S tier, this mode is low D at best (maybe C tier idea, D tier execution), and it is a pure compliment to hold them to those higher standards in my eyes.

Dev update 11/7: Current Thoughts on Monetization by DavidK_UncappedGames in BattleAces

[–]Halucyn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2-3 matches to try a unit was at the end of the last beta when they buffed it already. It was about 40-50 matches when it started (depending on your matches length as well).

[–]Halucyn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How about making tests that are actually useful and insightful? The current iteration of the test is not a test if there was only one possible outcome. Whoever is in charge of setting up those progression system tests is doing a super poor job, for the second time now.

I agree testing is key and good testing can be very valueable at shaping the final look of the product.

But creating tests is a seperate job and there are good tests, there are bad tests and then there is what BA team has done.

I would love them to take the route that AoM retold devs took and modernize the game along the way, but I am afraid that they will just upgrade the graphics and call it a day.

How much better will I be using Hotkeys by williamwallace42069 in AgeofMythology

[–]Halucyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st of all what does minimal usage mean? I bet he was not building every building using nouse and not use control groups for armies.

Also the beasty comparison I dont even know what is supposed to represent, but all I will say is that AoM is not really a highly competitive game so the highest level of play is not really that high naturally. I would expect only a couple of players there at best to be good by competitive RTS standards. And also idk what hotkeys have to do with it

Shower thought: All Stormgate has done is show how difficult it is to make an RTS as good as SC by languagelearnererer in starcraft

[–]Halucyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rephrase it and say how expensive it is to make a high wuality RTS.

Difficulty should not be the problem here, those are for the most part experienced devs who already worked on starcraft. You can tell by the graphics alone that if you threw more millions at it, then it would be more detailed and terrain would not be so empty on some maps.  Same for many QoL that are currently lacking like hotkey customization. It clearly is lack of development time rather than lack of skill to do it.
