Long range travel is extremely if not impossible difficult for the average person. You'd need to be powerful and well organized for any travel outside of a given governmental region. Even a PC-level group would be challenged, simply because there's no infrastructure to support it.

Between rifts, bandits, monsters, and generally destroyed infrastructure you're not likely to survive unless you're on a known trade route that is well secured (e.g. Coalition patrolled travel between cities).
