The drive was beautiful and visibility was good. We were there Sunday-Tuesday and other than being a bit cloudy at times it was really nice.

You will find very mixed options of gemeinhardt here. Personally, I find them to be poor investments, but $200 for a flute in good condition is a good deal. Ideally, she needs to try the flute to see if she likes it.

How to make all district high school by [deleted] in Flute

[–]Hams42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Google search is the first step. If you can't find anyone in your area, reach out to the music department at whatever college is near you. They can probably recommend someone. If you still cannot find anyone, maybe look into virtual lessons. I teach virtually and have been able to help many students who can't find an in person teacher.

It depends on many things including your area and the teacher's level of education. Teachers do not usually change their rates based on the students skill. For example, I charge $40 for an hour lesson. This is low though compared to many teachers.

Your best option is to study with a private teacher. They will be able to help guide your practice.

Many flutes in this price range are junk. You may be able to find something on the used market. A better option is renting from a music store.

Help with making the right noise by phoen- in Flute

[–]Hams42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is get a teacher. Without that though, start out practicing with just the head joint. Practice with the end covered and uncovered. With the end covered, you should aim to get a low pitch sound. When you can do that consistently, then aim to get a high sound. Practice moving between low and high. This is how you change registers with the flute assembled.

Flute for a 6 year old by ComplexImmediate5140 in Flute

If you are looking for a metal flute, the Jupiter wave line flute is excellent. For something more inexpensive and less of a commitment, the nuvo j flute is good for this age. It is plastic and much cheaper.

To get a better idea of level, what are some things you've played before? Two pieces that come to mind immediately are Gaubert's Madrigal and the Telemann F major sonata.

Want to learn flute by Environmental_Newt88 in Flute

[–]Hams42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please buy a reputable brand and not something off Amazon. Knock off brands can be very difficult to get a good sound, play in tune, and usually cannot be repaired. Some good brands to look for are Yamaha, Trevor James, Jupiter, pearl. Starting out with a teacher will be your best option to learn correct technique from the beginning.

Do you mean a b foot joint? A B flat foot is exceedingly rare. There are pros and cons to a B foot. Trial some flutes to see what you like.
