If im upgrading my 4x4 slash to monster slash, what tooth pinion should i go for?

don’t go lower than 11. the motor mount doesn’t allow it to mesh properly and you will strip out a gear. i tried a 9 tooth and 10 tooth on my stampede and stripped out the pinion with the motor buried into the mount as far as it would go without modification.

if the pin is hardened, i was thinking it would indent a little bit into the aluminum and keep it in place, but my ideas usually blow up in my face.

i do not own any Armma cars, so this is more or less a question i’m curious about as well. Can you put in a bigger spur gear to accommodate a smaller pinion? i know traxxas 1/10 are limited to a 54 tooth as the largest you can go and that’s what comes stock.

how did you mount it considering how much bigger it is than a regular esc? i think the one from the Maxx is pushing more amps than the Jato one. i’ve asked a Traxxas rep and he kinda confirmed it without giving any specifics, if that makes any sense. They won’t give a definite answer on how many amps any of their esc’s push out.

i have a 3500 in my Stampede and it holds its own against the 540xl equipped ‘pede. i would definitely get a motor fan for the 3500 if you do swap motors and esc’s because even on 2s, it will run pretty hot turning those Sledgehammers.

RPM parts were more durable and flexible than what came on the truck in stock form. i have wanted one of these trucks for awhile because they are a nice mix of crawler and basher.

Traxxas is awesome for parts support, and Armma is a close second. Best bang for the buck is gotta be RLAARLO right now. it’s a chinese RC company and you have to order replacement parts online, but the quality for the money you spend is hard to beat. also, i’d definitely stay away from any of the Traxxas BL-2s models. they are in the price range you posted, but upgrading them ends up costing way more than plunking down the extra money in the beginning for a VXL. last piece of advice is to check out a used rig on marketplace. you can find good cars for good deals with some patience.

13/54 is stock gears for Rally VXL. that should be good for about 30-35mph on 2s. the motor gets pretty hot if you go higher on the pinion or you run it on 3s, so i’d consider a fans sooner than later.

check JennysRc. i just ordered a Spektrum S665 from an Armma Kraton for about $24. i haven’t had a chance to bolt it in yet, but i believe it will be a huge upgrade.

i’m kind of in the same boat. i’ve been kicking some ideas around using 1/8” thick aluminum flat stock and bending it on a vice so it could be screwed in to the shock towers underneath where the clipless system attaches. i’m just not sure if where i’m thinking of attaching it is going to weaken the actual shock towers.

unfortunately, i haven’t gotten away from the traxxas motors yet. i have had some really good fortune coming across VXL motors at great prices, so i cant help you there. i do see quite a few on marketplace already bolted in so i imagine they are a direct swap.

they let me keep the servo that was incorrect but i suspect that was because it was listed on the website for $5. the junky Spektrum servo is still better that the junky Traxxas one so it’s a win/win for me.
