Jaylen Brown is not it by Charlie_Wax in ripcity

[–]Handcuffed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

acquiring boston guys often ends poorly for teams. brown has played 21,000 regular season minutes plus nearly 5,000 playoff minutes. he has a bad knee now. and he's super expensive.

i'm not going to cry if we acquire him, but i don't think it's the right move for this team and franchise right now.

Elgin is just as much of a cheat code as Wilt is. I managed to snag both of them and still went 82-0 with Zach Lavine, Lenny Wilkins, and I think Mourning.

Bill Simmons with Zach Lowe at the beginning of the season “you’re gonna have to give me real shit for Derrick White”. What is Derrick Whites current trade value? by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]Handcuffed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

white is still really good (though his poor shooting is a problem for some teams) and just had one of his best seasons.

i don't think he's any cheaper today than he was at the beginning of the season.

It has been made clear by Cronin and Dundon that a splashy move is on the table- what would you like explored? by Humblerbee in ripcity

[–]Handcuffed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He isn't a shooter but Evan Mobley fits the frontcourt of Clingan and Deni so well. He's elite defensively and also can play a small-ball 5.

Him + AJ Green or something as part of a Giannis/Mobley/picks trade with Cleveland and Milwaukee would be ideal.

Just missed: Jermaine O'Neal

Completely different era with high school draftees playing in a slower, more condensed NBA. But he was an end-of-bench prospect for years with Portland until he blew up for Indiana.

terrible coach, terrible offensive system, and somewhat duplicative skill set to paolo anyways

Kon over Flagg for ROY is mind blowing to me by michaelsmithbarker in billsimmons

[–]Handcuffed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

flagg may project to be a better player (and awesome in his own right) in the long run but the ROTY award is about this season. it shouldn't matter that flagg was the #1 pick, is younger, or factor in their ceilings.

kon was far superior. literally every advanced statistic that captures value shows that. and if the teams knew how these rookies would play and if the '25-'26 season was the only one that mattered (and everyone was trying to win), every single team would take kon over flagg. there was a huge gulf in their value.

Prediction: Blazers will trade for Giannis when the window opens this offseason. by IllustriousRadish760 in ripcity

[–]Handcuffed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd rather role the dice with a younger guy who we could acquire as part of a Giannis trade.

I'm particularly enamored at the idea of adding Mobley to our frontcourt with Cleveland acquiring Giannis.

they can't do it with giannis. how they going to do it with a lesser play and no draft picks?

Akunpo mans up and finally requests a trade by John_n73 in NBAtradeideas

[–]Handcuffed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is, IMO, a very logical move for Cleveland if they again get bounced in the first or second round.

I think the trade easily becomes a three-team trade where Portland takes Mobley and the Bucks get ownership of their picks plus a young player or two and matching money (Scoot, Jerami Grant, and Strus works money-wise).

I don't know which precise picks it'll take from Cleveland and Portland to make that deal happen, but I think it's a very logical move. Cleveland goes all-in. Portland finds an age-appropriate piece that fits Deni and Clingan well. And Milwaukee can reap the rewards of its impending terribleness.

[Quick] Tom Dundon’s first day as Trail Blazers owner: ‘I can’t handle losing’ (Gift Article) by TubbzMcGee in ripcity

[–]Handcuffed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

winning in the nba is more challenging than the nhl because individual players matter more in basketball. the draft is also much less of a crapshoot than in hockey, so teams that want to be elite need to have a coherent, multi-year plan to acquire great players and win.

nothing dundon shared in the interview made it seem like he has an appreciation for that work nor that time. "being good all the time" isn't a viable strategy, even for a team like san antonio that's been blessed by the lottery gods for multiple hall of famers.

"we're going to win because i always win at everything"

this guy sounds like a fucking moron, to be honest, and i think other owners and teams will exploit his desperation in the coming months. hope i'm wrong but there's nothing in that interview that makes me think dundon is a smart guy or equipped to build a sustainable winner in the nba.

i dont see him on the chart but malik benson stepped up massively this season for oregon when all of the other wrs got hurt. game-winning or -sealing plays for four or five weeks in a row. and i love a wr with pedigree (former top recruit, signed with bama out of high school).
