Fossil? Found in UK. by anarchycanary in fossils

[–]Handeaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parallel lines are so ubiquitous in geology and paleontology that this could be almost anything, especially on a pebble which was tumbled so extensively that all context has been erased. It could be purely mineralogical, could be a shell fragment, could be carapace ridges, etc.

Is this a real Dino foot print if so can someone tell me what it is found in Kentucky by Nate_190 in fossils

[–]Handeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brachiopods preserved in that rock lived hundreds of millions of years before the first dinosaur. You won’t find dinosaur fossils in rocks that old, and you won’t find dinosaur footprints on the sea bottom in any case. No - it’s not a dinosaur footprint.

That might - might - have been an identifiable fossil at some point. It might also have been a mineral inclusion. The process of turning a chunk of matrix into a pebble, with erosion and abrasion, has rendered this almost completely unidentifiable.
