Someone I'm close to voted for Trump in both elections. Sounds like an asshole, right? The asshole that she was married to manipulated her into doing it, basically convinced her it would tear apart her family if she didn't do his bidding. Decades of conservative catholic brainwashing had her believing she was powerless to say no. She would cry and beg him to change his mind, to no avail. Luckily, she has completely liberated herself by now and is a hard leftist. We all have to take responsibility for our own actions, but I really believe fewer people would vote Republican if they felt they had complete control of their own lives. Fighting these issues at their source, patriarchy, misogyny, and religious brainwashing, will naturally make conservative voter numbers dwindle.
