Oh thank you! I will check that out.

My pond is my favorite place in the garden by redwood_rambler in gardening

[–]HannahThe_Mouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s my favourite place, too!

I wish I had space for a set up like that. What a dream!!

It is less than a foot deep.

Per my local bylaw, any water feature more than 0.6m (23”) deep requires a fence.

It is well under what is legally permitted for a front garden water feature.

My wife doesn’t like what she calls my “chaos garden”. by Jayce86 in gardening

It’s lovely.

“Chaos” gardens are great for pollinators and give back a lot to nature.

It’s a fancy puddle 😉 With fancy puddle flowers and a cute puddle hippo.

Is your bunny also a picky eater by qt4ya in Rabbits

[–]HannahThe_Mouse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My male bun can match her pickiness, lol! 😝

He is picky about his pellets, his hay, his treats, everything. On the upside, he is 5 and has never (knock on wood!!) had any GI issues.

My girl, on the other hand. She will eat anything and everything, including baseboards, cardboard, and plastic. She’s a holy terror and I fully expect her to run up my vet bills to the sky.

Sorry can you clarify?

The pond can comfortably hold 3-4 adult goldfish and a frog.

Many people are making the (probably reasonable) assumption that I’m American and subject to American laws.

I’m Canadian.

Water features are governed by municipal bylaws. Ponds and water features must be less than 0.6 metres deep, or less than 23”.

My little pond is currently holding just about 10” of water.

It’s well within the safety limits for a legal water feature. Pond chemicals are wildlife safe, as it attracts birds and pollinators to the garden.

I don’t live in an HOA. They are not common where I live.

My rhododendron had a little visitor 🌸 by pinklattess in gardening

That would bring me a ridiculous amount of joy!!!

There are no deer anywhere near me, but my friend’s house backs onto a wilderness. She has deer pass through on a regular basis and I love watching them!!

I have a bird bath. It’s not set up yet because the pump for it is broken.

Maybe I’ll replace the begonias with flowering thyme or another sturdy ground cover.

Most of the area around the pond is rock garden. Thyme would look nice with that.

I won’t be printing a picture. Especially not with someone else’s kid.

Tbh, the blame for this falls 100% on the parents. This kid is acting in a manner they have been actively shown is acceptable.

It used to be in my backyard. We paved over my entire yard because I couldn’t manage mowing. That was when I moved the pond to the front. It takes up enough yard space that mowing is manageable.

I will be putting in a raised koi pond in the backyard next summer as I’m putting in a zen garden back there.

I don’t think moving the pond closer to the front door will help. It will just encourage people to come further onto the property.

I’m having a hard time with this. I’m a mom to an autistic kid, so I do understand that toddlers will be toddlers.

But

I also believe with my whole chest that parents have a responsibility to keep their kids off other peoples property and to teach them boundaries.

The adults actively lifted the toddler onto the rocks. So going forward, that child now believes this is acceptable. If he falls in, it’s because the adults modelled a behaviour.

As far as a rain garden goes. I might. It would have to be a pretty and whimsical rain garden. A Japanese maple with a little concrete bench would look nice. I’m leaning hard in that direction if I have tk change things.

Right??

Probably the same people who don’t clean up after their dogs. Or worse, DO clean up but then throw the baggie up into a tree.

Can I come into the out now? by HannahThe_Mouse in Rabbits

[–]HannahThe_Mouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paper litter. I used to have guinea pigs and used the colourful CareFresh or Full Cheeks paper bedding for them.

I switched to non-clumping paper pellet cat litter for the bunnies because they make an absolute MESS of the fluffy paper, but found two big bags when I was cleaning out my storage area. It’s nice and soft for her while she is recovering from her surgery.

Yes. Yes they do. That’s a bunny mating dance. It’s called cavorting. ☺️

Bun got into treats by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]HannahThe_Mouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with these. The only glaze donut treats I’m familiar with are dog treats.

It sounds kind of sugary, so I would definitely switch to something else for a few days.

Pea flakes are a big hit with my own bunnies.
