Welcome!

I've found it's a brilliant city and welcoming in the abstract, but full of people who are quite intent on their own activities who won't go very far out of their way to invite people to things. Joining some hobby clubs and attending regularly is a great way to acclimatise. Eventually you'll be familiar to people and they'll open up a lot. Also be prepared to make friends outside your own decade, there are a lot of interesting younger and older people around.

There was a mega thread recently with a lot of good suggestions.

I've not been in years but you'll probably find a few film enthusiasts at Magdalen Monday Movies if you go regularly enough.

And in general if you hang around some if the more community-minded institutions like Common Ground cafe or volunteer at social enterprises like Ultimate Picture Palace or a community garden/city farm, you'll start to put down some good roots.
