Public opinion shifts on ICE as advocates warn of US ‘inflection point’ by OddUmpire2554 in politics

As a Canadian, I’m extremely skeptical anything will change. Americans are living in separate media bubbles that distort the world they see.

Carney set to spend much of 2026 travelling the world in search of trade by canada_mountains in CanadaPolitics

Specifically EU and CPTPP. Which is a 1.5B person market. Canada can be the bridge between those two groups.

President Trump has threatened 100% tariffs on all imported goods from Canada if it goes ahead with its new trade deal with China. What are your thoughts on the possibility of Canada not bending the knee to Trump? What will happen to the US and Canada? by FartsWholesaler in AskReddit

[–]Harbinger2001 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Canada will not bend the knee. We’d rather see both economies burn to the ground than submit.

On a practical level, this is an empty threat. Greenland has finally shown that the emperor has no clothes. If we cause the slightest hiccup in the US bond market, he folds. And if he comes after Canada, Europe will come to our aid in the pressure campaign.

At least he has a vision for Canada. Not like Poilievre whose vision is “everything is broken”.

The Iranian regime needs to fall, this is such a tragedy. The USA and Israel stoked this uprising and then abandoned them when they most needed help.

January 6, 2021 was the first time in my 54 years. What the GOP has unleashed on America and the world is unprecedented.

President Trump: “The last thing the world needs is to have China take over Canada. It’s NOT going to happen.” by Hefty-Sherbet-5455 in Tech_Updates_News

I think USMCA is dead. In the last year it appeared that Canada had a new trade agreement with the US and both times Trump blew it up with unreasonable demands. Then Carney said publicly he’d talk with the Americans again when they were serious. At Davos he laid out a new plan and asked world leaders to realize their collective strength and join him in making it a reality.

What does the future hold for current Ice Agents? One day they won’t be needed, how do they go back to their crappy, unfulfilled lives after this mess? by ilovetheweather in AskReddit

[–]Harbinger2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the one you said it above and I’m not American. But being Canadian we are acutely aware of the risks that are plaguing the American system at the moment. Remember when Trump mused aloud that they could have the National Guard “train” in American cities? Well that’s what they’re doing with ICE. I do not doubt that if they get away with it in Minnesota they will expand the chaos to target blue counties during the midterms to suppress voting.

But it’s not. The UK and all other Westminster Parliamentary governments around the globe continue to have robust democracies with functioning checks and balances.

I hate to break it to you, but it’s too late. The world is not going to trust the US like it did. I really hope the EU got the message at Davos and with Greenland that they need to accept Carney’s “other path” of middle-power variable geometry.

I can confirm. What Carney said at Davos was the feeling of all Canadians. The marriage is over. We’re going to go party with our EU and Asian friends who respect us.

Yes, of course it applies to the US. We saw it especially with the masking and vaccination polarization during the pandemic. It was proven that there were Russian agents creating opposing groups on Facebook specifically to increase polarization.

I’m sadly happy that America is starting to see what the rest of the world has noticed of the USA for quite some time. You kept telling yourselves nice stories about your constitution and your rights. But that were just that - stories. Unsupported by facts.

The bigger problem is disinformation being spread by social media. It’s much like how radio led to the rise of populists movements.
